I moved with my family from Williston at the start of 8th grade. Graduated from West Phoenix High School in 1960 and then Arizona State University in 1964 with a B.S. degree in chemistry. Studied a year of graduate school in biochemistry at Brigham Young University on a NASA Fellowship. Attended the Coast Guard Officer Candidate School and was commissioned an ensign in January 1966. Served four years on active duty (and another seven years in the reserves, ending up a lieutenant Commander). Met my wife, Mary Lou, while stationed in Washington, D.C. Started medical school at the University of Arizona in 1970 and graduated in 1974. Did a residency in pediatrics and practiced for three years, then went into drug research, getting new drugs approved by the FDA and other agencies around the world. Worked for drug companies in Chicago and Philadelphia, retiring as VP of Medical Research for the last one, then came back to Arizona. Mary Lou and I are empty-nesters with 12 grandkids scattered around the country. I keep busy with church responsibilities, swimming, doing family history, and I'm active in state and local politics. I am reminded almost daily of the great times I had living in Williston with so many fine people who, although separated so many years, I still consider my best friends.
