VERONICA SABEY MC NEILL

Former Wilson resident moved to New York City

EAST ROCKAWAY - Veronica (Sabey) Mc Neill, 50, formerly of Wilson, died Sunday (Sept. 22, 1996) at her residence.
   She was born Sept. 15, 1946, in Germany, the daughter of Carl and Gitta Sabey, Sr., of Wilson. She moved to the New York City area in 1966, where she worked for National and Pan Am airlines for more than 25 years.
   In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, John Mc Neill of New York City; a son, John C. Mc Neill of New York City; three brothers, Richard Sabey and Carl L. Sabey, both of Wilson, and Arthur Sabey of Ransomville; an uncle; an aunt; several nieces, nephews; and numerous relatives in Germany.
   Funeral arrangements will be made at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions (truncated text).

Marianne Monteleone (Harzewski)

Veronica was a very sweet girl.  We were not very close but I do remember her being very positive and very kind.

Veronica's mother, Gita Sabey, has just died. Here is her obituary from the Lockport Sun-Journal:

"Gitta B. Sabey, age 94, formerly of Wilson, died Friday, June 16, 2017 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness. Gitta was born May 18, 1923 in Dietersdorf, Germany, the daughter of the late Georg and Kunigunda (Liedel) Kohlbauer.

She met her husband, Carl L. Sabey, during WW II and moved to the United States after the war. Carl and Gitta were married on May 9, 1948 and she became a US citizen on December 15, 1954. She had lived in Wilson for over 65 years. Carl predeceased her in December of 2007. Gitta had worked many jobs from farms, the Wilson Canning Co., at the Wilson Schools, and finally as a clerk at the former Hanson's Fish Market in Lewiston.
She is survived by two sons, Arthur G. (Rosemarie) Sabey of Ransomville and Richard (Sue) Sabey of Wilson; a brother, Richard Kohlbauer; and a sister, Gertrude Stollar; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Carl L. (Marcia) Sabey; a daughter, Veronica McNeal; and a sister, Hannah Trubel.
