Lera Laxton (Lamme)
Almost 20 years ago, we bought an old house in Taylor. We fell in love with it the moment we saw it. Allow me to list the reasons for that love: The dining room was large enough to hold my loonngg antique dining room table and 10 chairs...a china cabinet and two hutches...a bookcase for cookbooks...room for 4 more chairs with plenty of room to move around. And it had a fireplace! With a border that was the same pattern as my formal china. That dining room was absolutely so festive during the Christmas season.
Five bedrooms, four of them huge and the fifth smaller one, I turned into a closet/dressing room/library. In fact, there are bookshelves in every room. I turned the rather large foyer into a library but since I sell used, rare and out-of-print books and paper ephemera online and at shows, I had to increase the shelf spaces into every room. Yes, even the bathroom. THE bathroom. There's only one!!!! It and all the bedrooms are upstairs. The house is even older than I am, having been built in 1920. And I'm 71. We are both becoming less functional than "yesterday".
