Mossy Branch: Barred Owl
I photographed this owl in the woods back of our home. It was on July the 5th this year, that was my Birthday. So, I thanked the robins for leading me to the owl, and I thanked the owl for posing for this photo. What a beautiful present they gave me for my Birthday!

Vanilla-Leaf aka Deer's Foot is in bloom.
This plant grows in moist shady forests, glades , openings and forest edges. In spots the leaves of vanilla-leaf can form a nearly continuous green carpet over the forest floor. When dried the leaves give off a sweet smell of vanilla, why it is also called deer's foot, I do not know.

On 11 May I posted a photo of Vanilla Leaf aka Deer's Foot, in that post I said that in open areas this plant can carpet the forest floor. After saying that I remembered an example of this just a stones throw from our backyard. So into the woods I went, found the area, and took this photo.

Elk
On April 7th Darwin and I had just turned the corner onto Shawnigan/Mill Bay road when a taxi driver coming our way called out of the car window, elk on road. When we got further along the road I saw two elk on our side of the road, one of the two is pictured in the first photo. I could see the remainder of the herd was still on the other side of the road. When we got down to where they were we crossed the road, and I took some photos of the remaining herd. Darwin and I then continued down the road a ways, and I turned around and watched them single file safely cross the road. It was by chance good timing and an exciting experience!

Robin and Mountain Ash
I bought a mountain ash tree two years ago,
I bought a fairly large tree because at my age I didn't won't to wait to long for it to berry. I bought it to photograph robins feeding on the berries. It flowered this year in the spring, produced berries in the summer, and the robins found it in the fall. Here are two of the many photos I took.

Rear View: Northern red-legged frog
While out mowing the lawn the other day I came across this little frog, I drop my lawnmower, so to speak, and picked up my camera. The frog was a very obliging participant, and allowed me to photograph her/him from all different angles, it was fun, more fun then mowing!
These are some of the first images out of my recently purchased new camera. The camera is a Sony RX100 VII pocket camera. It is a very sophisticated and complex camera, it has many features and functions. It has a 24--200 mm. zoom lens, 24 being a wide angle and 200 a moderate telephoto. It has a 20mp sensor, and a very fast, top end auto focus system. The camera has touch screen auto focus points, it has eye and face recognition, and it also has a autofocus tracking system. It can shoot 20 frames per second, with no black out, and many other features. If you don't understand some, or all of this photo camera jargon, all you have to know, is that it is a very amazing little pocket camera!
