Michelle Johnson

Taught at Westwood High School (1984 - 1989) and St. Mary High (Sept - Apr 1989) after graduating from CAST. Graduated Howard University School of Business in 1994 with a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) Management; George Washington University 2000 as a Certified Public Manager; Harvard University Kennedy School of Government in 2003 with certificate for Senior Executives in State and Local Government.

Currently works as the Controller for the District of Columbia Government, Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Office of Management and Administration

Attended St. Mary High 1973 - 1980; Head Girl 1979 - 1980. Member of Henry House, sisters are Jackie and Sonji Johnson.

I remember one year (my last at St. Mary High), Henry House was apparently desparate for individuals to run on the class 1 relay team, so someone volunteered me. Anyone who knows me, knows that I don't have an athletic bone in me, even though I might be tall and had a sister who was an athlete. The sprinting gene was not passed down to me.

I can now look back and laugh, but back then, that relay event proved to be the most embarassing moment in my high school life. I don't remember all the members of the team, but I remember that I was handing off to Yvonne Edwards (Track Baby) who was anchoring for Henry. I can still vividly remember that while I was running my leg and as much effort as I was putting into it, it felt like I was running backwards because everyone else was passing me. After coming in at last place, my best friends Lorna Gilfillian and Howard Ramlal said that it took me such a long time to come in after the race ended, that they wondered what happened to me. Howie said he knew I was somewhere out there, because he could hear my heavy feet coming around the track. That was the last time I did anything like that.
