Survived Vietnam as a Special Operations Infantry Officer. Advanced to VP of Fortune 500 firm and discovered it was a lousy job for me.
Became high tech CEO for a half dozen firms (public, private, IPO) in various stages of growth, maturity, trouble and renewal; an Operating Partner in private equity; then CEO of a Safeguard Scientifics, a NYSE-listed (SFE) venture capital firm that was on the ropes due to its failed attempt to recoup from the internet bubble.
After the hugely successful repositioning of Safeguard, I retired and formed
Kedgeway LLC as a platform to consult, write, speak, teach, invest, direct my philanthropy and sit on a board or two.
My book, ALL HANDS ON DECK:Navigating Your Team Through Crises, Getting Your Organization Unstuck, and Emerging Victorious, was released by my publisher, Career Press, in June 2015. It's performing in the top 10% of its category.
I'm donating book proceeds to a three-decades old global non-profit, the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (www.nfte.com). I was named NFTE Chairman in January 2016 and Chairman Emeritus in 2020.
I can be found seasonally on Cape Cod, sailing my sloop, BluBird. In the off-season, my wife of many years and I have become bi-coastal to visit our two NY-based grandsons and a San Francisco-based granddaughter.
Life has, indeed, been good.

If memory serves me correctly (who knows these days), Bob bought me a drink at an officer's club in Saigon in Sept 1969, just a day after I arrived in Vietnam. I was awaiting my field assignment for a special operations group and was scared to death. Thanks, Bob, for that long ago connection that soothed my soul. Fortunately for the both of us, we returned home with all our arms and legs and our heads on reasonably straight.
