Paul’s Site Donation Plan

Dear AthensHigh62.net classmates:

This was written last December; unfortunately I fell ill and was forgotten until now. Some of you to whom I have written before through this website that Carl has so generously created and supported know that I write at length. I shall blame this on Miss Vickroy?), our senior English teacher. Please take the time to read all of what is printed below. I suggest that as long as you partake of this website that you will consider donating $26 during each of your birth months. This will help everyone continue to enjoy the value of this website and also continue to support all that Carl has so generously donated for each of us, the senior class of 62.

Holidays are a time when we '62 seniors can recall our earlier school years that had been lived 'out of school' on very short breaks and vacations. We were temporarily separated from our classmates and enjoyed time with our family, friends with no classes and homework. Little did we know what awaited us after we heard in June, 1962, the playing of Pomp and Circumstance that would send us on our next stage(s)of uncertain life. Do you recall the speech to which we listened and who presented it? I cannot. He was an author from Kentucky, yet his name escapes this razor sharp mind of mine.

We were so eager, celebrating our graduation, that final exit from 'mouse's', aka Mr. Burke's, domain; then we could examine the new freedoms that our teacher, Mr. Sens, guaranteed were awaiting us. Can you recall Mr. Sen's telling our class that no one would ever earn a million dollars in our lifetime? I decided then and there that one of us would do that. I did. Did you? I feel certain some of you did.

Now to the reason for my writing this message to you, my '62 classmates. I have examined this wonderful, class website that Carl Denbow established for our '62 class. A list of class members who have passed is just over thirty. If remembering correctly, we started our senior year with 145, yet graduated only 137. That leaves just approximately 100+ members, today still alive, and hopefully reading this as we prepare  for 2023. Yes?

So, Happy New Year everyone.

Carl shared with me that our web site costs $26 monthly to maintain. So it occurred to me that if each member of our class offered to pay only one time each year, the $26 for the site's monthly fee, it would just take each of us paying a $26 one time donation for the next eight years if all 100 donated $26 one time to maintain our class website, taking future financial responsibility off Carl. Miss Vickroy would take off for that run-on sentence, wouldn't she?

By the way, Carl did not suggest me to write this. This was all my idea. So you can point your finger at me for this suggestion. Okay?

Anyway, thank you Carl.

Some history: for my last two birthdays, I paid December, 2021's and 2022's monthly cost. Then, I had an idea. How about each of you search for the donation site and pay just one time for eight years, $26. Then, if you desire, you can send Carl a private message on this site that you did this so he knows you were the one of the classmates who paid it. Carl can then alert everyone in a blast email of this anonymous support; and this person's name will be withheld for privacy unless you wish it to be published. You decide.

What will your donation accomplish?

By you paying just $26 one time during this year, (2023), (yes, you have already guessed it) each class member will have participated in supporting what Carl so graciously started and has supported for years. It is such a small gift of your's that shall mean so much for Carl and our class.

This supports the web site and perhaps shall encourage you to use this web site more often.

Now, I could suggest a system such as we start in alphabetical order of our last names to donate one time in the next eight years, this $26. However, neither this or any other system seems to be able to forecast our future. So, why not support our class website this coming year, on your birth month, see how our donations stack up by donating during her or his birth month in 2023, a small amount of $26, so that during the next eight years, all maintenance fees will have been paid until each class member has possibly passed. Or not? You decide. Just $26. Inexpensive, yes? Sorry. Another run-on sentence.

Now I offer a hearty, sincere thank you to our  classmate, Carl Denbow, for his founding of this website, his continued financial support and maintenance of ATHENSHIGH62.NET.  Would you also please consider my proposal.

Hoping to see y'all on it soon.

Thank you for all our memories, classmates!

Go bulldogs!
