Mary Blackburn (Krabe) VIEW PROFILE

Mary Jo Blackburn Krabe passed from this life on April 7, 2015 after a long battle with Stage 4 lung cancer. Mary Jo was born on February 10, 1943 in Austin, where she lived all her life.

Mary Jo attended McCallum High School, class of 1961.

Mary Jo was the daughter of Alton Leonard Blackburn and Mary Ellett Blackburn. She married the love of her life, Wilbur Lee Krabe on March 3, 1961.

In the early years of marriage, Mary Jo was employed by Retail Merchants of Austin until 1983 when she went to work for the Texas Army National Guard at the USPFO for Texas, working in the Property Management Office. She stayed at this job, which she loved, until her retirement in 2003.

Mary Jo was a wonderful friend to all who knew her. She never met a stranger and was dearly loved. She will be sorely missed by her friends and family.

Mary Jo had a passion for all things British and was blessed to be able to visit England, France, Italy and Austria with her dear friend Sherri Lowden. Her dream was to return to England, rent a car and travel throughout the country to the many places she had fallen in love with, due to her exhaustive reading about Great Britain.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother, Charles Eugene Blackburn and her husband Lee, who passed away on what would have been their 35th anniversary, March 3, 1995.

Mary Jo is survived by her older brother, Alton Lindsey Blackburn and wife, Janis Spaw Blackburn; younger brother, Thomas James Blackburn and wife Shelley and her youngest brother, Jerry Dean Blackburn, who took exceptional care of Mary Jo during her final illness. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Texas Oncology-South Austin, St. David's Medical Center-South Austin, 6th floor cancer unit, and Hospice Austin. May God bless you for your tender care during Mary Jo's final months.

Services will be conducted at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, North Lamar location, on Monday, April 13th at 10:00 a.m. There will be a short visitation before the funeral from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Liberty Hill, Texas at 2:00 p.m.

Mary Jo and I were good friends growing up in Hyde Park.  We had a lot of fun times together.  God's blessings to her family.
