Comments:

After high school I went on a gap year program to Israel called Young Judaea Year Course, where I studied Hebrew, History, Archeology, Bible as well as worked for 5 months on a kibbutz (agriculture), studied in Jerusalem for 3 months, lived with a family on a Moshav for 2 months and toured the country extensively. Upon returning to the U.S. I continued my college experience at the University of Texas, where I got a degree in Journalism/Advertising in 1983.

Right after college I moved to New York City to pursued a career in advertising from 1983-1986. The city was an experience both good and bad. Loved the culture & theater, hated the cold, crime and expensive housing and the cutthroat advertising business. But I did manage to meet my future husband, fell in love and we decided that New York might not be the best place to raise kids, so we decided to relocate to Dallas, TX in the summer of 1986. Got married in the Fall of 1986 and bought our first house in the spring of 1987. Dallas was a great city for us, both affordable and warm and friendly. I continued working in Advertising and my husband, who was an actuary got a job at an insurance company. In 1989, I left advertising to become the Youth Director and hebrew teacher at Shearith Israel in Dallas. Loved working with kids and the job change allowed me to pursue a family. Our daughter, Ariella, was born in Aug. 1990 and our son, Sam, was born in Oct. 1993. Family life was good, we got involved in a preschool co-op, our synagogue, golfing and enjoying the rest of the lifestyle in Dallas. But in 1996, my husband was offered a job he couldn't refuse in Scottsdale, Arizona so we sold our house, packed up the kids and headed to Scottsdale.

Arizona is so different from Texas. We love our winters here, dread the summers and play lots of golf. Back yard pools make the summer heat bearable and we enjoy the very casual lifestyle. For a few years when we first moved here, I did the stay-at-home mom thing, but taught a little hebrew school on the side. Then I taught preschool for 2 years and finally got my real estate license in 1999, when my youngest began 1st grade. Real Estate has been wonderful until very recently and I've enjoyed the flexibility the career affords me. I love working with families helping them find their dream home. I've also learned quite a bit about construction and financing, all good knowledge to have. But now that the market has slowed down, I'm enjoying some quiet time to catch up with old friends on facebook, volunteer and help my mother-in-law recover from lung cancer surgery.

I don't get back to Houston much. My mother passed away in 1989 and my father remarried and moved to Las Vegas in 1992. So with the exception of coming back for family occasions or sports (my son participated in the JCC Macabbi games in Houston in summer 2007) I haven't been to Houston very many times since I graduated high school. But when I visited last in Fall 2008, I did see that the high school is totally different (rebuilt) and the little old homes in Bellaire around the school have changed alot. What used to be single level ranch homes are now huge sprawling mansions. I guess nothing ever stays the same, but it's nice to get nostagic. I hope to hear from some of you guys soon. I have a facebook page with lots of pictures, so look me up and friend me or drop me an email.
