I recently looked into the basic organization and costs of another reunion. I do still live in the Seattle area and could be a point person for such an organizational endeavor. I was dismayed, however, when confronted with the costs, which for many would approach $2000 for such a 2 day experience. I, of course, wouldn’t be burdened with travel or lodging expenses, but most everyone else would. A second concern is attendance; just how many of us 1.) would want to come, and 2.) would value it at the considerable outlay it would require.

Like Art and Kip allude to, it would be nice to know just how many of us still follow this site. This would be a first step in knowing if a reunion is at all feasible. Our only contact, certainly for most of us, is through this site. Polling classmates must be a first step before any further consideration of a reunion.

Another thought, with such new technology as we have today, is a virtual reunion, whatever that would look like. Has any meeting app been developed to effectively simulate a class reunion?

As for the continued value of the site, and its use, I would at least like to see a count of all who read each post, even with no ID attached. This could be automatic as a site feature. Anyone who opened the message page would, I assume, read all the latest entries, and could be counted as having read all posts. A “like” selection, as Kip brought up, may have an unnecessary sense of judgments being made, but knowing if anyone is “still out there” tuning in would help. We have, let’s admit it, entered the “countdown era”, where over the next decade, almost surely, a good number of us will no longer be around. If we survive to 95, will the site become like SETI, searching for any survivors?

Turning to content, I still write a lot about substantive things, but the current divides in our country make it difficult to talk about much beyond gardening and vacations. Even the Ukraine war has become a divisive topic in some communities. For that matter, I have long held that my parents created me through a long chain of ancestors over evolutionary time. Art’s very well written submission makes the matter of fact assumption that I and everyone else accepts that we wouldn’t be here without the Almighty. This is thought to be “neutral language”, and I appreciate the effort. But even here, neutrality is betrayed – as if I had written that evolution and fate have caused us to be and soon we’ll be transformed into flowers. This would not go over well for several readers. So scratch that. End of discussion about, well, biology in general.

Not quite – I forgot a crack I could squeeze into. I am now more or less familiar with scorpions and tarantulas, and while I will avoid being “venomized”, I am no longer afraid of them. I’m still afraid, in a highly cautionary sense, of the dreaded fer de lance. We have had 2 scorpions in our abode here in Mexico, and one tarantula was crawling in an open door, though persuaded to leave. They’re really quite defenseless and pretty cute.

So where does that leave us. Please report if you have any ideas related to class readership surveys, any thoughts on the effect of cost on a reunion idea, and any knowledge on whether there could be such a thing as a virtual reunion. We might be able to pull a reunion off, but first, as they say, we need data.

Adios, Amigos and Amigas

A friend just turned me on to an excellent blog, "The Story of Us", on waitbutwhy.com.  It's almost as good as my podcast, "Fascinating!", where I recently posted my 25th installment.

I read the forum every e mail posting. Also, I would plan to attend a reunion even if it was just to attend Homecoming and an informal meeting the next day.  I would help in any way that I can.

Steve,

Any idea that lowers the cost of a meeting place, such as a hotel ballroom, would be a positiive incentive. Also, having the event in the early fall, instead of the summer, would allow planning access to the school, which is closed in the summer. The school could even provide a daytime venue, possibly gratis. Tying a "reunion" to a football game (rain or shine) might be a good idea.  I have had a fall date in mind for a while, but thought it would be too late in the year for many, and also not be suitable weather for other activities they may plan during such a long trip.

Another thought, which I have no way to know if its smart or stupid, is to establish at Samm HS a tradition of a couple year's reunion classes coming the week of homecoming, presenting an event in the auditorium for the students, to inspire their future, attending the H/C game as special guests, and having a post (or pre-) game social gathering at the school. Actually, seeing the new school and meeting students casually would be a lot of fun. I think the students would enjoy it to, and get a valuable perspective on how to pursue their lives. It would have to be limited to, say, 50th and 60th year reunions to keep down the numbers of alums present. And, of course, there are all the reasons why it's a silly idea. So, just forget I brought it up.

That's all, I guess.

Hellow fellow classmates??
Well any of us 1963 graduates have watched,::"enjoyed"" the storeys, adventures  of  fellow classmates.

Many of "US" are not so adventures or flambought as the "upper " group.

I would very much enjoy a  class reunion. WE donot need the Hilton or Camlion.

How about at the "NEW HIGH SCHOOL" That would be very intresting. And, cost effective.

What was and what is after 60 years would be very intresting.

I was a nobody  in the class of 1963.

No one remembers  or who I was. ??

Good rank in the military; Manager in two different companies.raised 3 fine sons.

Married 55 years. Travelled to many different parts of the world.

A good life!!!

I hope the "average" classmates arrise from the halloways and join for the reunion..

Gene...

I remember you clearly.

I agree with your input on a venue for the reunion.

If its going to be in the Bellevue area why not have a casual summer meeting at Sammamish State Park and hire a vendor to provide and prepare the food/beverages.  It couldn't cost too much per person.

I think a 60-year reunion would be great!  Although I'm now living in Texas, I would be happy to help out with plans.

Does anyone know if there is any way we can seek out class members except through this site? If not, step one I assume is to do a survey of classmates who follow the site. It would be fun to know, reunion or not. Could I ask all classmates who still follow to "check in"?  Just say, "I'm so-and-so, checking in". -- No requirement to write anything.

As for those who would like a 60th reunion and would make an attempt to attend, in the Bellevue area, we need a tally. No committment at this time expected, but just a statement of interest if the timing and cost work out. I'll put my name on the list, and we can all count the numbers by checking the site.

I'm expecting this time around, if we do it, people will have to make their own accommodation plans, and I think I'll call the school to see what interest they would have in "hosting" us for space and time. Of course, this could only be arranged after school is back in session in September.

Any more thoughts or ideas?

I'm in Edmonds when Karen and I are not travelling to Vancouver BC to see our two granddaughters, well, yes, I suppose I shoud mention their parents, our yougest son, Ben and his wife Olive. Since I'm in the area, it would be easy to get to a reunion and at little cost.

Steve, I totally get it about the grandkids' parents being an afterthought.  Marlene and I do that all the time with our three granddaughters, the oldest now 11 and the twins just turning 8, and our son and daughter-in-law.  The love between us and those girls is nothing short of magical.

I will be there we still live in Sammamish WA. I  enjoy all the comments on this site. Life keeps us busy with 10 Grandkids. I am still very involved in the Ferrari Club and the Shelby GT350 R club.  I love Tracking my Shelby at Pacific Raceways .

Rick, I'm not sure how good our private message works but Mike Gardiner texted me for your phone number. He has difficulty signing into our website. He and Karen, like many of us, are interested in a 60th Reunion.
His phone is (323) 788-3821. If that doesn't work, I have several other numbers. Call me 208-615-6512.
Danny

Gene, I remember you, too. Few remember me as I attended incognito.
FYI, I spent my 24-year Army career in Military Intelligence branch. I never, ever brought home any classified documents. Never knew anyone who did (I did not personally know any president or vice president).
For everyone there were (and are) stringent rules about that. Apparently, some believe the laws and regulations don't apply to them.

Checking in from Philadelphia - FLY EAGLES FLY!!

Greetings to all!

As for a reunion, I like the idea of meeting up in a park, with an overhead shelter nearby in case of rain. Bringing our own food in addition to having a food and/or ice cream truck would be a nice addition. Very casual.
