From the funeral home obituary: "Linda Vinton Harrison, 78, peacefully departed this world on January 6, 2023, with her daughters by her side. Linda fought a heroic battle against ovarian cancer for over 5 ½ years. She was a caring and fun-loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Linda was born on Aug. 3, 1944, in Detroit, MI to Robert J. Vinton and Madeline Drummond (Babcock) Vinton. She graduated from Ernest W. Seaholm High School in Birmingham, MI. She remained in Birmingham where she raised two daughters, worked, lived, and loved until the time of her death. Linda started her career as an executive assistant in the automotive field. She later became a real estate broker and enjoyed a successful career in the Birmingham/Bloomfield area for over 40 years - most recently with Max Broock Realtors in Birmingham. She was a dedicated agent to her clients and offered great support to her sales associates. She was honest, loyal, and trustworthy. Linda also enjoyed many years of service as a member of the Junior League of Birmingham and as a committee member of the Woodward Dream Cruise – both of which she tirelessly devoted much of her time. She was a car fanatic, attending over 50 runnings of the Indianapolis 500 at Motor Speedway. THE RACE was the highlight of the year for her, most years enjoying the company of friends and/or her daughters. As the race approached, she would hang a checkered flag outside her home and would adorn her car with flags & banners for the trek to Indianapolis. She was lucky in that her only sister and her family lived nearby in Noblesville, so she could also enjoy some family time mixed in with the fun. One of the greatest thrills in her life was a recent high-speed ride around the track in an Indy car driven by one of her favorite racers, Mario Andretti! Linda’s LIKES: in her earlier years – fishing, pottery-making, and macrame. Later in life – tennis, golf, knitting scarves and dish scrubbies for friends, gardening, and attracting birds. Linda’s LOVES: Her family. The Indy 500, travel, boating, hot sunshine – whether a sandy beach by the ocean, or the Arizona desert and Sedona. She LOVED her chardonnay, Bloody Marys, and a good Spanish Coffee. She was trendy & fashion-forward, both in her attire and in her home. She loved music – mostly the Top 40 from whichever current decade. Her grandkids often got a kick out of hearing the beat of her music booming from her open moon-roof and windows as her car made its way to pick them up for pool days and sleep-overs. Linda was not traditional but loved traditions: Pre-race day partying at St. Elmo’s and the Slippery Noodle. Having family at her home for presents & prime rib on Christmas Eve. She was an involved, fun, and caring “Grammie” to Jenna and Jack, her only grandchildren. She was a devoted friend & supporter to her daughters, Shannon and Jamie. She was the world’s best friend to those in her inner-circle, always offering to help in any way possible. She was generous and had a knack for making people feel special & thought-of with cards, texts, and calls. She was fun-loving, humble, and playful, not wanting to take life too seriously, even when she couldn’t stop it from going that way. She was strong. She was a warrior. She was our mother. She was our Grammie. She was our aunt, our mother-in-law, our former spouse, our co-worker, our friend. She will be missed. Linda is survived by her daughters – Shannon (Robert) Guss of Rochester Hills, MI, Jamie (Chris) Neidermeier of Jacksonville, FL, along with two grandchildren – Jenna Sherman and Jack Sherman, Nieces – Susan (Paul) Stinn, Kathy (Dan) Turnacliff and nephew – Keith (Kristen) Cornila. She also leaves behind additional extended family she was close with. Linda was predeceased by her sister Joan B. Henriksson, brother Jay K. Vinton and nephew Robert R. Cornila.
