Nancy Wheeler (Lanier)

Thursday 12/06/12

I just talked to Irene. George is improving, his spirits are good, and he's getting stronger everyday. Friends built a ramp and Thanksgiving day George was able to wheel himself outside to sit in the sun and watch the kids play in the yard. He has a slider board for scooting himself into his wheel chair. Before the accident George worked out at Four Seasons and has good upper body strength. The therapist commented on how strong his arms are and this is helping him with his recovery.

Irene and George are very appreciative of everything the Class of '62 has done and is still doing!

Irene is doing well too. Sometimes she feels as though there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done. She is back to teaching and George has health care nurses who check on him.  With their family's help and the help of friends, they are adapting well. They  want to thank everyone for their outpouring of love.

An update on Donnie. He is now well enough to enjoy his first fishing trip since August. His mouth and throat are slowly healing.  The Doctor said it will not be healed for several weeks.  He is waiting to have his next PET scan to see if the cancer is gone. He will be surprised when he reads this post. He'll wonder where the information came from. Surprise, Donnie. I have my ways of gathering info.  :)

Donna Dorsey is placing the order for Our 50th Reunion Booklet Thursday 12/13/11. If you want one call Donna   (623-594-5560) STAT!!!  She might be able to add a couple onto the order Friday. It's going to be a special spiral bound book with heavier paper for covers. There's a coating on the covers so the book will stay protected. All this for only $15 including postage. Or you can print it yourself. Either way Donna has done an awesome job putting our book together. Kudos to Donna!! And a very special thank you!!!!!!

Lastly. John Ed and I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and I'm sending you all lots of hugs.

We received our Reunion booklet today. Donna, you did an excellent job putting it together. You spent a lot of time and energy on it. It's perfect. Thank you. Also, I surprised Joe and gave him one. He works so hard on this great website, I wanted to do something special for him. We all work well together. We're a one of a kind class.

TO ALL A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2013 WILL BE GREAT - BECAUSE WE'LL MAKE IT GREAT!

and to those who are in need, you're in our prayers!

Don't forget to think about suggestions for our next reunion in a couple of years (we're thinking about Spring of 2015). You're input in requested so we'll have lots of ideas from which to choose. Steve mentioned Knights of Columbus and I had a couple of emails from classmates agreeing that this location might be nice.

So, looking for more ideas - we need a whole weekend of things to do. Post them here please and let's get the discussion started!

Do any of you remember the ice rink they had in Normal on the corner of Willow and Beech. We had our daughter's birthday party there. I believe ISU bought the building but I'm not sure what they use it for now. Phil made an ice rink for her in our back yard and she really enjoyed it. Those were the days when it really snowed and we had really cold, cold weather. I think alot of people still enjoy roller skating more than they did ice skating. Oh well I'm too old to do either but it is fun to watch. Have a good day! It was fun chatting.

Hi Marlene

It's ISU Gymnastic Health Club Now..

It was a nice Ice Rink there huh?

Marlene Schroeder (Rever)

Hi Steve,

We did enjoy it. Phil's Grandpa bought the family ice skates at a group sale I think but we enjoyed using them. Now we still have our roller skates. I'm ready to give mine to my daughter. I'm not very active anymore but enjoy seeing people enjoy themselves. I think the colesium has an open skating time but I'm not sure. I didn't even go to the Christmas Baby Fold event since they moved it to the colesium. I enjoyed going to that when it was out at the interstate center. There have been so many changes around here. I enjoy thinking about the old things and all the activities we had. Enjoyed our chat.

Tony, did you know Janet and I are cousins.  My grandmother was a Thoennes from LaFayette, Indiana and a sister to her grand or great grandfather.  They came to Bloomington with their spouses.  Some of their siblings went to Peru.  I will be posting an update on George soon.

Happy New Year to you all!

Irene

I like that, Joe. I'm a sexy Italian and an ice skater!!  ; • )

FYI.  Joe just reminded me that our class is on Facebook. THS Class of 1962. Why don't you all join in. Someday we might not be able to afford to keep THIS site and  by then we will all be established on our own FB account.

Wish everyone a special "Valentine's Day" and to those who are having birthdays (just another year older). Just know God is watching over George and Donnie and all our classmates who have been having difficult health problems. I'm sure all of our prayers have helped. Thinking of all of you,

Marlene

Up date.....computer back from ER (LOL).  Now I'll try to get somewhat back on track.  I didn't delete just move him to a back burner to use some other time.

Nancy skating is making me dizzy.  May change her for a while.
