Who did you have a crush on while attending Bothell High School? Why? Did you ever date him/her?

My first date was with Marion Hansen, i belive in the 8th grade. Her mom dropprd her off at the Avon theatre and we watched Thunder Road with Bob Mitchum playing the lead roll. Afterwards my dad picked us up and we drove her home. I remember wondering to myself if i should give her a good nite kiss, but decided not to because of my dad being present. I think this is the reason i have always had a soft spot for the movie, Thunder Road.

Current & past (Career / Retired / Volunteer) status. Tell us name of company or organization and where:

In 1963 I began an insurance career, later forming a company called Northwest Agencies Inc. In 1976 I was traveling in the Yakima calling on prospects and came home to my wife in Bothell telling her about a wonderful area I found to live and raise a family. We sold our place in Bothell and bought 30 acres and planted fruit trees and built a house. Through the years we added seven other ranches near to us, raised five kids, and have recently started a fruitstand on highway 12 outside of Yakima. I now have someone taking care of the insurance business for me while I am actively farming 200 acres of orchard, and with my wife developing and running a beautiful little farmers market or fruit stand. Come by and see us. I might be able to work in a tour of the ranch. Directions and pictures are available on my web page, www.mcilrathfarms.com

Also i am learning about establishing a green house and putting in a truck garden for vegetables eventually to sell in our fruit stand . Also I am looking at eventually adding agro tourism such as a corn maize and pumpkin patch and a petting zoo.

I will be 77 in March 2020, have been married to Esther for 57 years and have 5 kids and about 18 grandkids and great grandkids. I actively farm in Yakima county in the foothills, apples, cherries and pears principally and raise cattle. I also have greenhouses for growing ornamental plants and a seasonal retail fruit market. My hobbies have been traveling. I enjoy these get togethers. The class was such a integral part of my growing years that it is good to get together a few hours each year and I appreciate people like you who make the effort. Thank you.

Comments:

I feel we grew up in a special era and time and place. Bothell in the 50's was much simpler as were our lifes. Most mothers were home, there seemed to be more time available for relationships, and talking for hours on the phone and just plain visiting. I remember the sock hops and games and just the companionship I felt with all the kids I grew up with. Those were great times.

Have you ever been on TV or radio? Where? When (elaborate please)?

no

Any newspaper or magazine articles you have had published or that have been written/published about you? Any books you have written/published?

no
