50th Class Reunion
THANK YOU for making the 50th Reunion such a success!!!
Val Salt (Oyler) has put together the following short video for you to enjoy!
HIKE UPDATE!
It started out a chilly (but PERFECT) morning, as the 14 hikers arrived near the entrance gate of Mueller Park. Our destination was the “Hornet Trail”, which was a newly created trail and a bit unfamiliar. We all greeted each other and introduced ourselves, and in no time, we were visiting and reminiscing back 50 years. It was a cheerful and friendly bunch!!
We walked up the road to the trailhead, crossed a bridge, and were on our way. We were all warming up with the sunshine. I love hiking because it seems to present opportunity to talk along the way, reconnect and get to know one another once again. This is exactly what happened. There was a lot of conversation as we walked up the switchbacks.
When we had almost reached the top where our destination was, we stopped to get our bearings and realized there were only 10 out of 14 hikers. Nobody seemed to notice them disappear from the back. I told the group to continue up to the top, and then hurried down to try to find them. I was a little worried. When I had almost reached the bottom, I saw all four of them making their way up the trail. They had gotten a little lost, but enjoyed visiting as they tried to figure out which way their fellow hikers had gone. The other 10 shortly joined us at the bottom. It seemed to be a happy ending and everyone appeared to enjoy the hike and the company, including the lost peeps that tried to find their way after their guide had misplaced them.
BOUNTIFUL HIGH SCHOOL
REUNION TOUR
What would a 50 Year Reunion be without the inclusion of a tour of our alma mater edifice itself?
On Saturday morning, September 14th, approximately 35 classmates gathered at Bountiful High School for a tour of those hallowed halls and it was like stepping back in time. Much had changed for sure, but the walls and stairs seemed to still talk as reflections and memories flooded to those that attended. Memories of where the lunchroom use to be, how the lunch line went, walking into the gym and reminiscing about stomps, proms and oh the basketball games! Trying to find where your locker was and walking by your favorite classroom.
Scott Freckleton called his nephew, Jason Freckleton, who is the current head football coach, and he arrived to accommodate a tour of the amazing new football and baseball fields finished just a month ago. They were beautiful and such an awesome addition to BHS. It was fun and meaningful to reconnect with the school itself. Even with the changes it remains a school we can say “we're proud of you and of your red and gray…unlowered shall these colors be…whatever comes our way."
LETS RIDE!
On the morning of Friday the 13th of September, several alumni from the Bountiful High School Class of 1974 took advantage of the perfect early Fall weather to enjoy a bike ride from Bountiful to Farmington and back. There were several no-shows, but those who did participate had a good time. A few participants rode manual pedal bikes, but the majority rode e-bikes.
We enjoyed snacks, cold drinks, and socializing at a picnic pavilion adjacent to Farmington City Pool before commencing the return ride.
We had no collisions, spills, or even flat tires! We all completed the 17+ mile ride without needing to call paramedics even once!

SERVICE PROJECT AT BOUNTIFUL PANTRY
Early Saturday morning of Reunion weekend thirty-seven good-hearted people…all members of our class (along with partners/guests) gathered in Bountiful to serve the local food pantry. Tim Treft was pivotal in arranging this project for us. Brian Carmack lived up to his family’s legacy of providing outstanding doughnuts to the crowd!
The job was to assemble pantry packs for Davis School District. These will be distributed to kids who needing food support over weekend periods when school is not in session and children do not have access to school-provided breakfast and lunch.
The job was to go through four operating lines and assemble multiple edible items into a Ziploc bag. Tim had it all laid out perfectly. In all, 1,440 pantry packs were created! Members of our group then packed the Ziplocs into transfer crates used by the district.
In addition to this labor of love, Class of ’74 members generously donated to Pantry operations because of our affiliation through this service project. Our group made collective cash gifts of $2,600 to Pantry operations.
It may just be that classmates continue volunteering at the Pantry. It may be that some of us become ongoing donors to this great effort. Or it may be that this sort of service project can be repeated as a great group activity when classmates wish to gather in the future.
It was good to be together and to serve and terrific how generous the class was in making contributions.
Thank all of you who attended, and special thanks to you, Tim, for organizing this group project so well.

Bountiful City Park Social
Beautiful fall weather helped to usher in an excellent social evening at the Bountiful City Park Bowery on Friday, 9/13/24. Well over 200 BHS Class of ’74 grads and guests showed up to reconnect and reminisce with high school friends! Folks traveled from as far away as Georgia and Alaska to attend this enjoyable event.
The park bowery decorations and displays were very tasteful in calling out our colors and backdrop of our high school years. The table decorations and creatively designed centerpieces for the evening were remarkable. The Classmate Memory Display beautifully featured the 51 classmates who have left us since graduation. The Memorabilia table included original clothing, yearbooks, and programs/posters of events which occurred during our high school years.
Several individuals commented about how well done and ‘over the top’ the decorations and displays were for the evening. A big shout out to Susie, Karen, and Janine for the outstanding decoration ambience and tasteful recognition of our wonderful classmates who have passed.
Many were grateful a taco truck was present which provided some tasty food & sodas for the evening. Additionally, delicious cookies and water were available to all those who attended.
It was exciting to have a wonderful band performing songs from our era that evening. In order for the volume of the band to not drown out classmate visiting, they were asked to play just outside of the bowery and face southwest. Although not many of us walked out to watch them play, the volume and the familiar 70's tunes which were played, as well as the high quality of the performance, fostered a perfect background for visiting and reconnecting all evening. That was the main priority for the reunion!
We’re grateful to all of our classmates and friends who attended this event. You all played a big role in making this evening a huge success! It was wonderful to reconnect!
Thanks again to everyone for making this such an enjoyable evening!

BHS Class of ’74 50 Year Reunion Golf Scramble Tournament
So, how great were all of the events and gatherings that were a part of the graduating Braves of 1974 fifty-year high school reunion?!
Certainly, one of the best was the scramble golf tournament held at Eaglewood Golf Club. We welcomed 32 classmates playing in 8 foursomes. Everyone had a great time. The weather was perfect and of course the company was just the best! It was so fun to spend time with our classmates and get reacquainted as well as caught up on what has been going on in our lives the last 50 years.
The foursome of Scott Freckleton, Rob Martin, Mike Seely and Greg Stuart won the tournament with the foursome of Paul Folsom, Dirk Hogan, Laurie Hogan & Les Merrill taking second place. Both teams carded the same score but the winning foursome had no bogies while the second team had one. That broke the tie.
After the round of golf everyone enjoyed a delicious BBQ buffet meal allowing a lot of time to visit and have fun with some door prizes. The staff at Eaglewood did a wonderful job and were very accommodating and understanding of a group of friends wanting to visit, laugh and have a great time. At times I’m sure getting us all where we needed to be was a lot like herding cats!! (Les, it was fun watching you run from your truck to the golf cart because you showed up right as your foursome was called! )
Big thanks go out to Bob Pierson and Brian Carmack who worked very hard to make the event a big success. Thanks to everyone who took the time to participate and make the golf outing truly memorable.
Go Braves!

OAKRIDGE COUNTRY CLUB DINNER
The culminating event or our 50th Reunion weekend occurred at Oakridge; a beautiful venue made available to us through the membership of Becky Bosch. Thank you, Becky, for making it possible for us to join in this comfortable and lovely setting again this year!
One hundred forty Braves from 1974 (along with their guests) mingled, laughed, ribbed each other; hugged, kissed, and maybe even shed a few tears. Those present were able to view and reflect upon the beautiful Memorial display for deceased classmates which was at the Bountiful Park on Friday night, and which was so thoughtfully created (after much research!) by Janine Tueller Mickelson.
A tasty buffet dinner was available, and everyone enjoyed the food. Brief comments were followed by sincere thanks to our phenomenal and dedicated 50th Reunion Committee.
These people worked hard and long to make a memorable weekend for all who participated.
This “wrap up” event was a special evening that we can remember going forward. Thanks to all who contributed to it, with a special shout out to Becky Bosch; Karen Purdie Brietenbeker and her husband (who created centerpieces); Sandy Duerden Tueller who managed reservations and the welcome to the event; and every single class member who attended.
Way to go, Class of ’74…and here is to many more years of good health, golf games, hikes, bike rides, opportunities for service, and magical evenings in city parks. Good memories!
