PLEASE, KNOW THIS IS IN NO WAY A POLITICAL STATEMENT.

The Vietnam Veterans are so uniquely special because they served in a war this nation’s people did not seem to support.  You suffered and no one seemed to care.  Not only were you not honored, you were jeered, scorned and rejected.   I am profoundly sorry and ashamed of this nation’s response.  Thank you for your service is a most inadequate expression of gratitude and much too little, much too late.   I am sorry.  I am ashamed.  I can only plead ignorance at the time.   You suffered and may still, and I blithely went on with my small plans.  I do sincerely thank you for your service to our country.  May God bless you and yours always.

Carrol:

Thanks for your posting and kind words. It was different back then and I'm glad today's young vets have not had to experience that. I hope with next years' election that steps are taken to improve the VA and our President supports them in defending our country from this crazy world we live in now. Stan

My Pops loved the Houston Debakey VA. I took him there numerous times and the 22,000 they saw daily there was impossible for me to see,  the seemingly numerous times We were there, pales in comparison. He wanted to go there to get his treatment to save us from paying. He was getting slower as he aged. Being 88 is not bad for the guy you all knew scooting along in the BHS hallways a lot with that WSJ poking out of his back pocket! I hope he was not looked at as just another teacher. He knew his station in life and if he taught you swimming or anything he loved the job. He deserved being there. By the way, he was not in the Bataan Death March with Larry Ballard. Joe, set us straight your pop wasn't either was he? I heard later that a Bob Hackney was in it when a ph. call out of the blue asked me about it. Pops was at the Chosin and recd. a 10% disability for frostbite. He hated the cold until his passing in Dec.12 there.

Carol,

Thank you so much for your kind words regarding our nations Vietnam Vets.  I never served in the US Military but I have always had a high regard for those that did.  I know several of those folks that did serve in Vietnam and went on to have distigushed military careers.  The Vietnam Vets wall on the mall in our nations Capital is a grim reminder of the loss of life and is only a small tribute to those that died.

I will say this regarding our nations current military situation.  Our existing Comander in Chief is a disgrace in the way he has politisized the Military for his own gain.  Carol, if you are ashamed of the way our nation handled the Vietnam War then you be as equally ashamed by the way our Government has handled the disgraceful bombing of our Embassey in Benghazi, Libya in 2012.  Our State Department perpetrated a lie to the American people about the motive behind the attack on our Embassey and this scum is running for the Democratic Presidential Nomination.  I hope She is put behind bars I think her husband Bill would be glad if she was.

By the way do we know how many BP Exporters Class of 1969 lost their lives in Vietnam?

Thanks for Your Tribute

Jim J

Sorry, I can say old people get to do things sooner than me.

Filing a Medicare claim and getting a SS check were always a goal, just to get some of my taxes back.

My Medicare just started the first of this month. My first Doctor appt is in middle of January, so that will hopefully be my first claim with them. Getting thru all the paperwork has been a hassle though,  having to set up different email accounts with Medicare and Social Security.

I'm eligible in February for Medicare, but will still be working and have group med, so I'm sure that will complicate things.

Keith Chatham

Kathaleen........... You have a 6 month period to sign up. 3 months before your 65 birthday until 3 months after.

KC, I've not looked into any of this. Will it negate my current ins.? Or is it complimentary? Supplimentary?

Who do I complain to to get old classmates to post pictures? I know I haven't changed, but cannot remember just met folks without at least your HS pics. I never knew Steve Perry. Met him at our last public mtg. @ Dido's and others' half too. I was shy the! Mery Christmas, old folk, heehee. I kinda like the Geico reunion ad too! Half a decade until that is totally relevant. Who will be our Peter Pan?

12/20/15 04:31 PM #3306

Collene Shoemaker (Lewis)

Kathy, Keith is correct.  I found that taking time to evaluate my prescription needs prior to selecting that plan paid off. Also when I last spoke with Medicare they said you are able to change your prescription plan anytime during the year.  Be sure to confirm before making a change.

Best places that I've found to answer my Medicare questions or to self educate:

- medicarerights.org

- medicare.gov

It is confusing and everyone has different needs. I found Medigap Plan F was best for me and got my own drug, dental and vision. You should start the process 3 months before your 65th birhday month (not the day).

If you're already getting Social Security, they will automatically deduct Parts A anb B from it along with taxes up to 85%.

Stan:  I see you every once in a while in a dental commercial here in the Dallas area.

Kathy............Medicare has what is called "Open Season". This is the only time you can change your medicare elections. Usually it is from  middle of October to first of December, this year it was from Oct.15--Dec.7. Stan gave you a couple of good sites for info........also www.social security.gov. is another good site for info. Click on Benefits, then you will see "Learn", and there are articles about Medicare.

Greg..............Your insurance company probably wants Medicare to be Primary,  so they can be Secondary, which means they pay less in the long run. This is how most insurance companies handle Medicare. And Medicare probably wants your insurance to be Primary, so they can be Secondary insurance, and pay less. Best thing to do is to call your insurance company and ask them if they are gonna be Primary or Secondary to Medicare.

Good Luck!

Keith

TNK you all so much for all the info & websites-- gives me plenty of places to study up on everything & make decisions-- GREAT!!

Gwenda (Wendy) McCrorey (Lee)

Go to the website: Medicare.gov  You will be able to order a booklet that has everything you need to know about medicare rules for 2016.  It is free.  When you get on the website, go to the tab that says publications. It is the one titled Medicare & You 2016.

Do not rely on the people from the Social Security office for information.  They are not informed as to all the hidden rules.   Such as if you are still employed and are covered by insurance with your current employer.

If you do not have time to order the book, and are running out of time to sign up, there is a lot of valuable information on that same website.
