I'm sure by now most all of you have heard about the tragic events that transpired over Memorial Day weekend on the Blanco River in Wimberly, Texas.  There were 8 folks that lost their life in that unfortunate tragedy.  All of them I personally knew as they were from Corpus Christi, Texas where I live.  Please say a prayer for their families.  The McComb family lost three family members including two small children all gone in a matter of minutes.

Jimmy, I sure will, and have already. Water is a force we should never challenge. Blessing to you.

Jimmy-my youngest son is a fire fighter in Wimberley and I was there that weekend.  He was active in the rescue efforts.  It is so sad about the McComb family.  Of course, they are in our prayers-family and friends of them.

I can't for the life of me understand why they did not or could not get out of harms way.  I grieve over the loss of the small children such a tragedy.  Thanks for the reply.  I am good friends with McComb Family and they are devastated.  This is something you will never get over.

JJ recently I had that conversation with my brother Gary. We were raised to know when the weather here, hurricanes, possibly threatened, ya get to higher ground. Some folks weren't schooled as much. Maybe it might be that others will take care of ya. Reality says otherwise. My heart is healthy, but knows! Maybe they'll be the future ambassadors of prevention for others !

Greg,

Such a tragic way too learn that you "Don't Mess with Texas" or challenge mother nature.

The "Worm" or better known as "Tennessee"

Definitely. Today I discovered after living out here for ten+ years that I needed to place some elevated parking spots for my vehicles. The storm surge has already begun for the new thing in the Gulf, I-91! I've had high tides and mostly green grass, sts, but to raise up two vehicles is new for me, but no chance of death with this.

It has been a while since I have posted anything here.  So, here I am to say "hi".

Here in Columbia, SC, it has been pretty hot, lately.  Humidity hasn't been too bad.  My thoughts and prayers are with those back home dealing with the flooding and loss of lives and homes, etc.

I think it is great that some of you can get together on a regular basis.  I look forward to making it to one of them myself when I can get back to Lake Jackson for a visit.  We recently had a person quit in the office that I work so we are short-handed.  Not sure when I'll be able to get away for a couple weeks.  My hubby, Tom, doesn't like to fly so it hardly seems worth it to drive all the way to Texas for only a couple of days.

I looked back at the messages that have been posted here this year.  It really brings back memories to read the posts Carol entered.  I remember a some of the popular songs from back then and a few of the country songs.  Back then I primarily listened to the FM radio station that was located on Willow Drive or the radio station we received from Houston that played classical music.  I guess I was a little backward or weird or something.  These days I like to listen to KLove radio in my car driving to and from work.  At work I love to listen to a variety of music on Pandora or to KLove in the background on my computer.  I can turn it down low enough for me to hear it without disturbing anyone else in the office.

Well, enough about me.  It is sad to read about those who have passed away - classmates or parents of classmates.  I guess we are getting to "that age".  I pray for comfort and grace for all those who have lost loved ones and for grace and guidance for all of us to make the best of our time with our loved ones - parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors, etc.  It is so easy to get caught up in day to day things and not take or make the time to smell the roses and visit with one another.

Gee, I think I have gone on long enough, for now.

Good night and sweet dreams to all!

The first Saturday of July is the 4th of July so we will NOT be having an Alumni Luncheon..... But will pick back up on the first Saturday in August....which will be August 1st at 1 PM at the Luby's in Lake Jackson.

We will however be meeting on July 10th at 8PM at the American Legion Hall in Angleton for visiting and dancing....
Lowell and Debbie are there every Friday night from .7:30-11:30
If you haven't been there it is really nice.... the music is good and it's not so loud that you cannot carry on a conversation at the table..... If it works out, we may make this a monthly thing... and it is great exercise. Please let me know if you want to come too, however, there is room to accommodate quite a few people

It was posted today 10/01/2015 that Larry "Big Red" Thomas passed away in Vegas. The information comes from Cynthua Glass Edwards ( Roy Edwards former wife). Roy would probably know & there is a picture & write up on Facebook in Freeport Remember When. The post said per Larry's request no obit would be printed-- so sad. He was a nice guy & our star athlete in 69' I can't confirm this but looks as if is coming from good sources. I am going to make some calls . My prayers go out to Larry's entire family-- especially his children & grandchildren. REST IN PEACE LARRY

Carrol Reneau (Jeffers)

Integration began in Brazosport ISD in 1966 and we were in 9th grade at Freeport Junior High. Larry Thomas was a star athlete from the beginning but more importantly, a nice, nice young man. Even at that age he had such class and grace. I know nothing about his family or how he was raised but Larry always had a smile and softly spoken words. I know the Class of 1969 had great respect and affection for who Larry was, not just his athletic ability. At our 40th class reunion so many people asked about him and it would have been richer had Larry attended but we could find no contact information. Sadly, it makes me wonder if Larry did not have such fond memories of us. May God bless and comfort Larry's family.

Carrol...........I agree with you about Larry. He was a very nice person in high school and he was very nice to me. I saw him a few times after our graduation and he would always come over to me and say Hello and shake my hand. I am very sorry to hear this news.

Have fun, I know you will enjoy the cruise!

Keith

Thanks, Keith.  We all are really looking forward to it!

I can't say who thought to get him to run in pads the one day that the coaches were timing guys in 100 yd. dashes on the side near the school and the intersection of 2nd/old hwy 36. He did a 9.9! Power man! He had a stuff-eating grin, too!
