Kitty Allison (Hilton)

You know, Joy, geometry was challenging for me, too. I must say Mr. Chafin was great though. At first he thought I wasn't applying myself and then he realized I just didn't get it! He spent extra time with me knowing that I was giving my best. I have no excuse for English! Thank God, we had a great teacher that knew how to get my attention fast!

I was sure I'd never need geometry anyway! Ha! When I built my first home...and then last summer when John and I rebuilt a patio cover it came in handy. Thank goodness, I married a very intelligent, well educated man that "got" geometry!

All the memories are so fun. These are all things that rarely cross my mind.

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

Kitty,
I didn't get geometry then, but I was crazy and talking all of the time. Still crazy, but love to learn now!!! Still talking!!! LOL Like you I married a brilliant man. There was nothing that he couldn't accomplish! He was handsome, so intelligent, but I guess what I loved about him the most is the way he treated people!. People would line up down the hall at his company just to talk to him! He would put a sign on the door, "do not disturb" when I called him. I would apologize for taking up too much of his time, and he would say, "You are the single most important person in my life!" He once said when he became ill..."For the first time in my life I cannot fix what has happened to me, and I now must rely on GOD to help me, and he did.
I have great memories of all the wonderful people at BHS 1969!!! We have an amazing class!

Have a wonderful day Kitty!!!!..It is my day off...just remembering you all...yippppppppppeeeeee!

Jim,

Another line - my sister Susie remembered this - was:
"spell out the school we love so well
B-E-U-T-E-L"

I know we are still missing some lines. More later.

Yvonne, that's right! I had forgotten that we even had a song, but that part I remember well...thanks, Guys!

Judy Henson (Wolf)

Joy, you crack me up. I can see my cheeks are going to hurt the whole weekend we are at the reunion. I want to know what Nancy said when you told her you gave Randy a wet willie (with an orange no less).

Carrol, I don't remember if you drank, I think you just conned the rest of us to drink so you could laugh at us.

Oh Joy, I went to SW Texas the fall semester of 69 then transferred to the University of Missouri at Columbia (boy was that a mistake). I froze my buns off, had the stinkingest (is that a word if not it should be) roommate, never found my Psychology lab, played a whole semester of spades, broke my front tooth diving into the swimming pool, and then they wouldn't give me my grades until we paid the out of state tuition. Needless to say, I didn't go back.
*****************************************************************************
Judy, I was thinking you better start resting up NOW for the weekend with Joy. It'll be like spending the weekend with 3 year old triplets - GREAT FUN & EXHAUSTING. Carrol

Janice Mangum (Colwell)

Winona, that was one of the songs we sang on the band bus coming back from out-of-town football games. Remember, we started off with the Lord's Prayer, then the BHS Alma Mater, then the Exporter Fight Song (Fight for the Victory, etc) and then we started singing other non-related songs. I remember one particular night when the guy's band bus broke down and they had to board the girls' buses. We started with our usual repertoire then someone began singing our rendition of "I'm in the Mood for Love." When we got to the line "Funny butt...." Mr. Wade, our driver went through the roof and there was no more singing the remainder of the ride home.

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

JUDY...OMG I have found the beach house...renting it tomorrow, It has a pool and hot tub!!! This will work very well with our facial program!!! Get ready ladies...for your reunion and spa weekend at Faces of JOY!!!! There are larger, but I figured we could have a pool party and facials after the reunion!!!! It is 5 bedroom and sleeps 14-18!!! Yep you should have stayed in Texas with me at SWT!!!

AND.........you will all walk away with a "face" of JOY!!!

Carol...what are you talking about...lol you are coming to hang out too!!!! I laughed so hard about the triplets because I did baby sit triplets Joshlyn, Jacqlyn, and Jacklyn. Couldn't even keep their name straight, and couldn't figure out who did what because they were all identical!!! The worst is when I make you laugh with dried egg and oatmeal on your face!!!! LOL....
Ouchie!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michael I can bring my eye lash dye for your hair!!!!
I did get this new dye...and just dyed one of my friends eye brows! It really worked so much better, but the only problem was it turned really dark and she looked like a racoon!!! I was talking you know...and uh oh left it on too long!!!!! I know it all sounds really scarey, but you will love it!!!!

Kitty I tried to post some pictures didn't work... and my sister Janie is going to help me!!!

Have a hoppy weekend!!!!
JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sign up people to come to the pool party!!!!! Hey it also has a hot tub!!!! Yipppppppeeeeee!

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

PS: Judy...oh Nancy was not very happy! She lived across the hall from me, and slammed her door shaking the whole wall when she heard Randy wanted to date me. I really was not trying to do anything but just have fun!!! She fought for him, but I won!!!! He asked me to marry him 3 months after we dated...lol 5 years later we married!! YIPPPPPPPPEEEEEEE!!!!! That is my word for pure "joy"!!!
Hey look under Brannan properties on this website at beach houses, and look at Lago Vista. They are painting and putting in new furniture. Check in Friday by 4:00 and leave Tuesday by 11:00. I will talk them into earlier check in! See what you think, and I will do it when I hear from you!
Love ya girl,
JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:0)

Julie Davidson (Sabrsula)

Joy-you had better be careful about this beach house. It seems Dee Allen is looking for a place to stay for A WEEK and he doesn't wear deodorant.

04/18/09 09:45 AM #376

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

Julie... LOL I had a college roommate like that, and she smelled awful!! She said that she couldn't bathe everyday because of dry skin!!! Everyday, I would open her closet and spray with room freshner...she got the message and started wearing deoderant and bathing everyday! I gave her some beauty products, and instruction on how to take care of herself! Some people just need training!!!! Dee Allen...Joy is going to give you a make over!!!!! I will bring you some of that tea tree deoderant from Whole Foods!!!!! You are going to love it!!! :0) You prepare yourself for one of those life changing experiences!!!!!!!!

Janice:
Thanks for the clarification on the fight song lyrics I posted. Your memory is obviously better than mine. I didn't remember the lyrics at all but found them written in a scrapbook I made during our Sophomore year. I truly regret missing out on all the fun band times during Senior year.

Glenn Mallory**

Dee, don't believe them. Some things can't be made over.
I think they are looking for a poster boy for Joy's new Girl Scout Cookies. What else can you do with all that dough? I say add Chocolate Chips and a candle.

The new cookies can be called Dee Lites. The candle is for waxing those chin whiskers they are always plucking.

They may require your legal skills as this sounds more like an environmental waste dump in the making. You do the math, 18 women minus 10 years each, what happens to all that OLD stuff?

04/18/09 01:18 PM #379

Kathy Harkreader (Jones)

Glenn, that was hilarious. :)

04/18/09 01:19 PM #380

Judy Henson (Wolf)

Joy, looks good to me but I think we need to get more roommates. That's a lot of beds for the 2 of us. I think we should just move the reunion over there.

Does this mean I have to buy a swim suit?

Judy

Judy Teague (Crenshaw)

Just thought I would chime in and say how much I am enjoying everyone's chats and updates. This is wonderful. I am surely going to miss it when the reunion is all over. I have enjoyed facebooking with those who are on it.

Joy, thanks for your comments about the grandbaby. We know what a blessing they are. My 11 yr. old granddaughter is cracking me up about the new baby. She emailed me the 1st sonogram and said it was a lima bean.

Ya'll just keep up the chat. It is bringing back great memories. I love you guys. The older I get, the more I realize what a blessed "cocoon" we grew up in.
*********************************************************
Judy, why does the website have to be over after the reunion? I would think there are going to be far more stories to tell after! Ya know, we (the committee) paid for the domain name for 5 years so . . .

04/18/09 09:52 PM #382

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

You people are crazy...I just live in my "Joy's world!!!"
Glenn...that is hilarious! It will be 10 years of dry skin times how many people?!!! Can anyone think of what we can do with it?!!! Recycle skin...there must be a use! We certainly don't want to burn it in that barbeque pit at the beach house!!! Skin smells bad when burned...I burned my leg when I was in a hurry and ironing the dress on me!!!

Oh people....the memories are flooding my brain, and it is about to explode!!!! I think my brain is growing with all the knowledge I have gained!!!! Judy, do you remember the bright green glitter BOMB I drove with the loud muffler and bright green and white seats with the glitter steering wheel?!!!! It was so loud and fast! The police knew Daddy, and they didn't stop me except one time when I had probably 14 girls driving down Oyster Creek!!! They were literally hanging out the windows!!! My Daddy was cool but said one person per seat!!! My Daddy was a car nut,and so am I!!! Do ya'll remember that white/red Valiant with the push buttons?! That is the car I took the short cut, and drove into mud to the middle of the driver's door!!! LOL The Olds convertible with the baby blue seats? Oh, I almost crashed it into Martin Browns house when I took off the break and it rolled across the street, and was 1 foot from hitting their house! My brother Dennis was the hero, and very fast...He jumped in and hit the break!!!

Oh Judy, you Alice and Melinda McBride I still remember your beautiful voices in junior high choir, and I nominate Judy, Alice, and Melinda to sing us a song at the reunion!!! Mrs. Davis loved you all...she hated me! Most people don't hate me...just because I am not a singer...oh well can't win em' all!!!!! Who will second the nomination? Ya'll get together, and plan the song okay...please pretty pretty!!

Hey, Sandra Byers, and I used to climb on my roof at my house and sun bathe!!!! Whoa it was so hot...guess so it was black! It's a wonder we didn't have a heat stroke!!!

Oh Janie and I were so crazy and very mischievious...we would have mop and broom fights with Bobby Fortner and Jody Ramsey!!! and....string homeade taffy across the kitchen...no one knew this, but one time we dumped some water from the mop on my Dad's bed... our wicked stepmother was very angry!!! We had this crazy mouse that lived in the hall and he would chase us down the hall!!!! We would jump up on the counters and scream for help...poor little mouse I am sure he was terrified!!! Now this is something I just hate to admit...because I try to be kind to all people. I don't like cigarettes and neither does Janie. I did smoke socially in college, but I stopped, especially with all of the cancer!!! We had this lady that worked at Daddy's drug store, and she made a very bad mistake blowing smoke in our faces. Of course it was Janie's idea to fill up all her cigarettes with Sweeta...being the follower of my sister that I am I agreed, and maybe she would quit! (Do not tell Janie I blamed this on her!!!)Well...she did quit! We hid from Daddy in the bathroom!!! Janie and I were always hiding in the bathroom...another story!!!!Most of the employees really loved us!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!

Janie had a habit of getting stuck in the sand dunes at Surfside!!!! Of course it always seemed I was there to rescue her!!! Janie is really smart...I have to get a dictionary to look up the words when she speaks!!! Mrs. Huff you did a great job...Janie is also a great writer...love my sissy!!!!

I remember one of my best friends Dennis and David Billings. David Billings and Steve Marr were at the bottom of Surfside Bride changing Sheila Greenwalts tire, and this drunk driver hit them. David and I were close, and they lived next door to us. He would come over telling me my dress was to short...change it, and to stop ratting my hair in the Texas beehive!!!! He was like a Daddy! One day I will see David and Steve again! Dennis Billings still lives in the same house next to mine!!!
Don't forget send messages to Alice, Judy, and Melinda to sing!!!!
Love ya'll... going to do a little dancing tonight!!! bye bye!!!
JOY!!!!!! :0)

Bathing suit...wear what you want!!!! I am going to wear my "hot pink" bikini...NOT!!!!!! LOL LOL!!!! You let me know if there is anyone you wanted to ask! Carol and Alice are coming I am sure for my egg and oatmeal facials!!! Kitty too! Ya'll come...party hardy!!!!Julie!!! Judy Teague!!!! Gerry Sue!! Michael wants that hair dyed I think...Dee I am bringing some of my big bruisers deer meat!!!! Hey I have a great recipe for deer meat chili, and we might win!!! Think of a name for the chili...I name everything!!!
Will be in touch on the beach house...you plan the party Judy!!!! I will plan the prizes!!!!
Love ya,
JOY!!!!!:0)

Julie Davidson (Sabrsula)

Joy, it's ok about not being a singer. Apparently you had better things to do than sing. Mrs. Davis never asked me to sing. Not only that, I sang in Mr. Magee's choir at church and he never invited me to sing in the high school choir. But I do remember those lovely voices that Alice, Judy, and Melinda had. So I second the motion for them singing at the reunion:)

04/19/09 08:55 AM #385

Judy Henson (Wolf)

Hey guys, you need to think about the fact that Alice, Melinda and I haven't sung together since probably 1966, some 43 years. I know Alice has continued to sing and I don't know if Melinda has but I know it has been a long time since I have. I don't think that is a memory that can be recreated especially since they are down there and I'm some 670 miles away. I really appreciate the thought but I would be afraid of repeating the memory of how Mrs. Lovett totally humiliated herself each time she took the stage.
=======================================================
AMEN, AMEN, AMEN. Perish the thought of us croaking a song out. God help us all. Alice Day Smith

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

Judy....I don't want to be mean about Mrs. Lovett. I always pretended to love her yodeling...omg I can hear it now!!! Well, I wanted to pass Algerba!!! It was this screeching "yodel, yodel, yodel." I was hoping to forget her singing!!! LOL!!! Hey, who was that teacher that made us walk around on our knees apologizing to everyone in the class for talking? Remember the story she told about the thumb being found in a twinkie! I haven't eaten one since then! She also made us add the telephone book numbers!!!

Don't you worry Judy...the voices that you, Alice, and Melinda have are beautiful! Alice is a very good organizer, and I know she has a great song for ya'll to sing!!!
Alice...can you help? Yea Alice...you can do it!!!

Hey Judy did you hear about the gold prospecting in El Dorado, CA? They have recreational gold panning! Wouldn't that be fun to try gold mining? I have a friend that is a partner in a silver mine in New Mexico.

My memory has not failed me...thank you GOD!!!!

Have a great day!!!!
Going now to praise GOD!!!
======================================================
NOW WAIT A MINUTE JOY! MY KARAOKE DAYS ARE OVER! I WRITE BOOKS, AND PREACH....NO ONE KNOWS ME AS A SINGER ANY LONGER. SUCH ASHAME, BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T USE IT (SINGING VOICE), YOU LOSE IT. But thanks for the compliment. Alice
