Joe, I used to see his sister Sue around down and I know she still lives here. But I've never heard anything about Dickie.

What about Charles Garrett?

Julie Davidson (Sabrsula)

There was a Coach Scarborough who wasn't in the classroom that much, was that him? Believe that was 7th grade. Judy, you really did that?

Dickie Tracy

You guys tear me up !! I'm sitting here in class reading the messages and every once in a while I laugh out loud and then catch myself. The kids all look up!

Pencils under your shirt! What a hoot! It's like traveling back in time to hear everyone.

Was it Gil Girourd or was that a movie actor? I am definately going to bring my yearbooks up to my room tomorrow. Maybe that's cheating.

552. That's 252 more than is in my entire high school now! We'll have a graduating class of 60 this year.

=======================================================
DICKIE, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED YOUR PROFILE. And I was so nervous as I watched your video driving up the mountain to your home with snow covering the road. I think your profile is the coolest one yet!!! Thanks for taking the time. Alice Day Smith

Danny Cappel may know about Charles or Jim may know.

Jd Barnett:

We were in Mr. Huffman's math class ("If that problem is wrong, I'll eat the blackboard!") one day and got in trouble for smarting off and trudged off to Mr. Todd's office to get my "licks." I sat there dreading it (licks hurt!) and Mr. Todd came out and just said, "Go back to class." OK. I went and they announced that Kennedy had been shot. I guess Todd thought I'd feel bad enough without whacking me. He was right.

Slaughter was a bit odd. Funny, though. He went to Levelland college to teach after he left Brazosport.

I remember some of my third grade Spanish. ?Donde esta el cuarto de bano? ?Que es su nombre de pila? Some of what they taught us was archaic usage when they taught us, and was even more so when I got to Spain in '74 and Venezuela in '80. It was good to start conversations with, though.

I had Mrs. Goins for English and disliked her class almost as much as she disliked having me in it. She made us all do a book report on Moby Dick because we had to read that book, and had to do a book report, too, and had run out of time. I hated not being able to choose my own book and argued about it until she was in tears.

I can't believe that Judy broke up with Dickie so heinously. No wonder we guys all turned out the way we did.

Well I remember Ms Lovett I did not have her I had the lady teacher next door I can not remember her name.Judy do you remember the Gholsons at FBC Mr Gholson brought me to the Lord and Brother Johnny was the pastor then

Julie Davidson (Sabrsula)

Oh my gosh, my husband is reading Moby Dick for the third time and yesterday I was telling him about Mrs. Goins and the book report. I never got the grade on that report and always wondered about it.

It was Coach Johnny Girourd, who was also the basketball coach as well as math teacher.

Coach Scarborough the Texas History teacher gave me the three hardest licks in my life after he saw me pantomiming him after he left to go the teachers lounge. I remember him telling me I better grab onto to my ankles as he was going to give me something I would never forget !! And for all of you with failing memories - well he was correct, so this could be a solution - although a painful one for overcoming Alzheimers....I would venture to say his paddling was an order of magnitude more painful than the ones I got from Mr. Todd. And Jim B. ( fill in the lastest moniker ) I had a similar experience on the day Kennedy was shot - maybe we got sent down to the Mr. Todd's office together by Mr. Huffman ?

Mrs. Bourgeouis was my son's counselor at Clear Lake High School in Houston, and her husband was either the Supertindent or Asst. Supertindent at Dickinson.

Cyndie S. - Yes I remeber the " hood " , and we never moved from 203 Magnolia, and now there is just a vacant lot, and our two car detached garage as the people who bought it after Mom died in 1995 just let it rot away....so Julie Davidson (Sabrsula) is free to walk past that dangerous part of LJ now.....there were a bunch of older BHS folks that lived on Cherry and Acacia - Steve Browning, Jackie Amason, and a bunch of people from Class of ' 66 , as well as John Greenberg from our class.

Coach Girourd works out at the gym the same time my husband does. He still looks the same... not a single gray hair in his head. In fact, he lives just a few houses down from Joe's mom.

Joe, I remember the Gholsons. I saw Gayle a couple of years ago. Her dad was not in good health. I don't remember you going to FBC. I remember Judy, Alice, and later on the Chafin twins, Mona Galleon and some others.

John Devens turned out to be quite a Christian guy and goes to FBC. I keep missing him on Sundays to tell him about the website.

04/27/09 05:10 PM #646

Jd Barnett:

Michael: It seems right. If it happened to you, too, then we got sent together. Maybe the whole thing was your fault...*right!*

Glad Scarbrough never got ahold of me...that was a big dude.

Hi Gail! I enjoyed your list...but don't be going to Mexico right now. I love the Tarvers, too, and I bet your sons are wonderful.

Barbara, did I miss your 25? I was offline for a few days.

Susan, thank you for the information about Becky. It's amazing that the 2 of you stayed in touch as long as you did.

Janice, I loved your family and old pictures and will comment more on your profile. Yes, I saw Becky in the 6th grade one...thank you. I recognized almost everyone in that picture. Was that Doug Oden in the back row on the far left? Also, that picture of the 4 of you in 7th grade...that was SO CUTE!! Y'all look like you could be a future singing group. :) Janice, I'm writing more in another msg to you.

Julie, what is this about a talent contest? I must have missed it. What are Mike and Dee going to do?

Michael, no one loves Motown more than I do!! :)

Margaret, Dickie, and Julie, I had that same French teacher in hs. The teacher did not sit in a very lady-like way, if you know what I mean. It looked like she was doing it on purpose.

Joe, the last time I was at Surfside, Bingo Cosby still had a surf shop. He became a very vocal Christian.

Judy, I love your stories. Candy Sullivan was a big tattle tale. If Alice threatens to kick you off here for writing what you did about her (Alice), I'll take up for you.

We had a Mr. Bourgeois for choir at Frpt Jr High. He was quite handsome.

04/27/09 06:47 PM #649

Julie Davidson (Sabrsula)

Yes,apparently there is going to be a talent show. Alice, Melinda H, and Judy H are singing. Now Dee A and Mike P are singing and dancing Motown for everyone:) Isn't that exciting?
=====================================================
JULIE......Oooooooooooooooh PLEASE. Judy and I have already signed off on singing together. That was OVER 40 years ago. We would sound like a group of frogs croaking in the night!!!! Alice

Kathy Bingo really did change his life around. I heard from him about a year ago... One omy old memories was borrowing Nelson Moys surfboard and then wipping out ao a set and wadding in to not finding his board My dad had to help me dish out money to pay Nelson back It became a costly mistake for me at the time!

Janice, didn't we have a good time together in 5th and 6th grades? I remember that our music teacher, Lola Kay (Mrs. Don) Hood, gave a test to see if we were suited for band and I think you were the only one who made a perfect score! I also remember how gutsy you were when you would walk the top of swing sets like they were only a foot off the ground. I was too chicken to try it. Also, remember all the time we spent walking on stilts and walking on those big wooden spools as they rolled down the street? Another time we dug a hole in Mrs. Vaughan's backyard, but why? Do you remember that little building in back of my neighbor's yard? We called it our club house and that was where we cut our fingers and became blood brothers. :) I saw that Sherrie Whittle filled in some information, so maybe she is reading this. Winona may have done some of this stuff, too...did you, Winona?

Joe, the name Nelson Moy rings a bell, but I can't put a face w/ the name. Was he in our class? Having to pay for that board was baaad.
One time, I had someone's surfboard and had to go into town...got pulled over for having the board sticking out too far but didn't get a ticket. Have to know how to bat your eyes just right... ;)

Collene Shoemaker (Lewis)

The french teacher was Angela O'Brien...

04/27/09 09:43 PM #659

Judy Teague (Crenshaw)

Yeah, the teacher was Scarborough. He was big!!

Now Dickie, you have ruined my reputation! I am so remorseful.

Joe, I remember the Gholsons. My mom and dad saw Gayle at a reunion at FBC. I think her mom passed away and one of her sisters.

Margaret Dubois (Ammons)

Joe-
I lived at 320 Redwood, next door to Lynn Strahan and
across the street from Linda Bearman. Suzette Gustine lived on Jonquil just a few doors down from Guy Blanchard.
Joe, I had your dad for Economics our Sr year. One day HL and I had a disagreement and I was in his class crying. He was so sweet and asked me what was wrong. Well, I was a typical teen and snapped at him to leave me alone. We were taking a test that day and I blew it. When it came time for finals, I wasn't exempt because of that test. I had
apologized to him for being so ugly. I studied my rear
off for that final. When I got to class for it, he told me
that he had refigured my grade and I was exempt. He really was a softie.

Janice Mangum (Colwell)

Kathy, you have a better memory than me! I remember the clubhouse behind Brent Butler's house. I remember the whole "blood" thing, and I remember that I had a great time hanging out with all of you kids that lived on 10th Street. You, Sherrie Whittle & Carolyn Croy. The hole we dug in Mrs. Vaughn's yard, I think, was to bury someone's goldfish that had died. I think we also dug it back up to see what it looked like later on.(ugh!) I remember the stilts and walking the spools, but I don't remember walking the top of the swing set. It certainly sounds like something I would do. It's a miracle that I lived through some of the dumb stuff I tried!
