There were 2 drive-in theaters, The Trade Winds and the Surf Drive-In, both on Hwy 288. After Carla, one that was completely gone, the Trade Winds, I suppose, put on their marquee GONE WITH THE WIND.

That was the Surf Drive Inn across from Bodiddles. Bodiddles sure had good BBQ.

Just a question....have any of you had an unspoken flame? I had a really bad crush on a guy in high school but was going with someone else at the time. Him and I would smile at each other when we passed in the hall. I keep looking at the EXPORTER'S Profiles and I see where he still has not registered. I was wondering if I were the only "weird-o" around. Also, do any of you remember the trail by the creek on the other side of Dunbar where alot of guys would go and camp out? It's totally gone now but I remember when Bobby Beck and Jack Amason would go down there. We also went to Black Ferry's Road Bridge and would swing from a tree and drop off into that dirty creek. I remember the LJ Rec Center dances. Especially when Henry Munson's band would play. I remember us meeting at Jasmine Hall to play tennis and the parties at Jasmine Hall. WOW...this is way too much remembering for me. Kathy, thanks for the email and Alice, best wishes on your trip. Gary, I'm looking forward to seeing you too. Yes, we've changed. I look in the mirror and sometimes I don't recognize that old woman staring back at me. (She looks just like my mom)

Has any one got an email where a paragraph or so is written and only the first and last letter for each word is correct and I believe the number of letters are the same and you can actually read it

Marian howdy!! Blacks Ferry Bridge was really cool and heres one at Jasmine Hall we would go see those old movies in the summer like all Black & White Sci-fis... The rec Hall dances were cool...

Joe:
I like Fridays too--their fried green bean appetizers and the babyback ribs are great. Another good place in the shopping center is Charley's--they make the best grilled sub sandwiches.

I was scheduled to be in Cleburne last Monday (Jury duty) but the trial was cancelled-YEAH! I've been summoned 6 times (served twice) since we've lived in Johnson County but my husband has only been picked once. Can't figure out why my name keeps falling out of that bucket!

Cyndie Chrystal (Williams)

Yes, LJJH had a graduation. The 8th grade girls were the ushers. I'm pretty sure we wore our Easter dresses, hose and, of course, our girdles!

My suggestions for the talent show:
A dance exhibition of the Funky Four Corners by Connie Marsh. If she needs a partner surely Mike Strickland danced the FFCs with her in high school!!

Girl we will check out Charley's...If you get this way check out Pasta Fina its on the exspensive side but ummmmm their sauces are great There use to be a Mexican Restaurant on Rosedale that made some the best Carne Gasada.

Kathy Harkreader (Jones)

Janice, I don't know how you remembered that eating experience at Jane Long in such detail! Amazing!!

Cyndie, Connie and Mike doing that dance sounds quite entertaining! :)

Julie, we forgot about Lynn Langham playing her guitar...since she and Glynn Irby do their things on a regular basis and are actually really good, there should be some handicap for them...like maybe Lynn having to play w/ her left hand and Glynn reading w/ his mouth full or something. Just so they won't have an advantage. ??
What about our "friend" Glenn M who wrote about plucking chin hair? There should be a special something for him.

Marian, we probably all had unspoken flames. I did.

04/29/09 05:59 PM #751

Joe Ballard

Kathy yes they did!!! we have a house full of kids and their friends Is that out on state wide news? 3 0r 4 kids at the high school where my son attends are sick with the flu and they are also halting springfest and cinco de mayo... I heard WHO kicked us up to 5 out of six on the Panademic scale..Do you and yours still reside in Texas?

Alice Day (Smith)

Hey Winona, I was getting a jury summons about every 18 months about 5 years ago. I've been on 6 jury panels, and the foreman on 4 of them. I FINALLY FIGURED OUT WHY I WAS GETTING SO MANY SUMMONS. One of the baliffs showed me. My drivers license says "Alice D. Smith" and my voters registration says "Alice L. Smith". I was getting hit with 2 name pools. See if yours are different, if so that's why you are getting so many notices. Since I corrected my name with the county records, I haven't got one summons!!!!

Oh my gosh Joe, I totally forgot about those movies at Jasmine Hall. Just think what kids of today would say if you told them to go and sit on the floor and watch some old movies for awhile! I don't even see kids riding bikes or skating like we use to. I remember the neighborhood kids coming over to our house at night and we would sit under a tree for hours and just talk. I miss those days.

Marian your words are so true!! i tell my kids 18,15, and 12 how much fun I had as a kid growing up in Lake Jackson. Playing Tom Sawyer with Johnny Hill and other in our neighborhood making rafts floating down the drainage ditch behind Glenn Pools and even Mr Slades. Catching fire flies chamelons or even a horny toad. Playing little league baseball and the girls softball or hanging at the public pool or just riding our bikes all over town. My kids are very active not into organized sports but they ride or walk all over town. BUT other kids do not seem to do so as much here. Cleburne is a big sports town like most Texas cities. Too much computers video games texting etc. now.. I really have good kids and they have taught me a lot. I am probably too soft on them though. Yeppers we started late with a family so it's like raising our grand children.

Mrs. Whitteneben was our 9th grade home ec teacher. Mrs. Baker was at the high school. And now I am worried that I may not have graduated. Cyndie, are you sure we had a graduation? I remember the movies at Jasmine, yep, we sat smack dab on the floor and were happy about that. Just glad to be with our friends and watching a movie.

One more thing, the Beutel beans were so good the recipe was in the paper years ago. Did anyone get that? If so I would love to have a copy of it. And please, someone beside Dickie, or Donald, say they don't remember the jr. high graduation. My dad saved everything, even my kindergarten report cards, but no sign of jr. high grad.
Kathy, don't you think Dee could do a weight lifting demonstration for us? After Motown of coarse.
Regretfully, Mark McBurnet and I won't be singing since I can't and Mrs. Levine wouldn't let him.

Julie, I want the recipe plez! OK I sorta remember something about a graduation like on a Friday night right after school being out and there was something going on at the beach and I did not go... foggy here though

04/29/09 06:45 PM #758

Cyndie Chrystal (Williams)

I'm positive, Julie. In fact, either the graduating girls wore white gloves, or the ushers had to - faint memory. Maybe you didn't graduate, Julie!

Julie Davidson (Sabrsula)

Joe, if I get the recipe I will be sure to send it your way. Cyndie, do you think it's Alzheimer's? Please say it ain't so.....

04/29/09 07:33 PM #760

Vickie Norris (Haish)

Julie - Don't know about Alzheimers, but i definitely have Oldtimers. I can remember some things way back, but can't remember why I went from one room to another.

Do any of you remember school before air conditioning? TW Ogg's PTA bought a couple of window units for our library, because the books were beginning to mildew. As soon as I was old enough, I signed up as a library aide. In first grade, we would race in from recess to try to get a spot in front of the big round floor fan. I think Ogg and Beutle were built about the same time. They were certainly built with the same floor plan -- those wonderful open air hallways, and each room had a wall of low windows. Now the halls are all closed in and most of the windows are also.
