OK, I knew I would not have time to produce my award winning Gumbo next weekend so I spent the afternoon in what I think is my best Gumbo production ever! It must sit overnight in the fridge and then I will freeze till Saturday morning. Judge Huff, you must remember there are two contest, one for the best taste entry and the other for the most pitifull bribe of the class of '69. (oh, and by the way the corvett is red, that is your favorite color, right?)

FINALLY, SOMEONE HAS READ THE FINE PRINT IN THE GUMBO/CHILI/ROADKILL COOK-OFF!! Betty, you got it! There will NOT BE TIME next weekend to cook WHATEVER you are going to enter - it needs to be cooked AHEAD of time and just warmed up. Besides, these things ALWAYS taste better after the flavors have 'married' awhile. As for the red 'vette bribe, Betty, have you climbed into and out of a 'vette lately? For me, it isn't as comfortable as it once was. I think about Winona and John driving across country in one . . . the jaws of life would have to be used to get me out.

My gumbo is in progress-

Winona Hebert (Spinks)

Climbing into and out of the newer ones isn't as difficult and the ride is fantastic. We'll be meeting up with hundreds of Corvetters tomorrow as we join the 2009 Corvette Caravan--final destination is Bowling Green, KY. We've been there twice already so I FINALLY convinced John to only participate in the first leg of the journey to Oklahoma City, OK--that way we'll be able to attend THE REUNION next weekend. YIPPEEEEE!

See y'all soon.

P.S. Mother's shrimp & crab gumbo recipe is still the best!

P.S.-P.S. I have 4 sweet little kittens that need homes so let me know if you want one--otherwise I'll just have to take them to Dee's house!

Looks like we will be through with the golf tournament in time to come over and eat that GUMBO! It better be good now, cause my wife is Cajun and i know how really good Gumbo should taste!

Winona, SO VERY, VERY glad y'all are going to make it down! Absolutely bring those kittens (NOT to me, of course, I have two dogs) but I'm thinking Dee can use them for DOOR PRIZES. Didn't he say what he doesn't give away he will just take home?
Strickland, am I still waiting for a delivery? It isn't being held up by post office surveillance, is it?

FYI-the church bulletin yesterday said Mr. Magee was in ICU at Methodist Hospital. No other details.

***** PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT ******

I just spoke with Maria Seidler Atkins. 'FOREVER TREASURES' will NOT be open Monday, Labor Day. She needs a day off, too - remember, she is our age,(but you won't believe that when you see her!). And she would really rather not open Sunday after worship service so . . . plan your time to include shopping time because I'm telling you - YOU WANT TO GET TO THAT STORE, IT HAS STUFF YOU WANT!!!!

My brother, Lowell, who is a counselor at B'wood, sent me an update of Mr. Magee today. He is home with no plans for further treatment. BUT he is in good spirits and very positive. He would appreciate cards, not calls, and is too weak for visits; however, he is still planning to direct the Messiah in December and attend the choir reunion that month also.
I fly to Houston tomorrow, make salsa on Thursday, and will see all who will be at the game Friday! The time is here!
*********************************************************
It NEVER occurred to me that Lowell was your brother - DUH! I was a B'port counselor and saw him at meetings - don't know that we ever even had a conversation but remember his name. But had I known, we would have. I'm sure I was just one of the old ladies to him.

I was planning to visit Mr. Magee at the hospital today, but decided to call ahead. The receptionist told me he had gone home. I will send a card, and encourage all of us to do so. Cards are a great boost for ones spirits.

Joe, Sally and I will come in Thur. night, stay at 2nd daughters house and meet Guy Stevens Fri.am. Looking forward to seeing you and everybody else. Somehow, have to make time to fish.

Guy Stevens! Man I have not heard or seen him in years Mark. Is he coming to our reunion and where does he live now? Mark take down my number I left on the forum and give me a call while you are down. Didn't Guy leave the area while we were still in Jr. High?
