Hello to all my classmates,

This is Ray Clifton. I am looking forward to visiting with many of you at our 40th reunion - I can't believe it has been 40 years. Time sure flies by quickly. I am living in Fountain Valley, California and teach ESL, GED, and ABE classes for a couple of different school districts. We will have to get together and share stories. See everyone the last weekend in July.

I am so glad you took advantage of this message forum. Perhaps we can get others interested in doing so. It would be especially fun to hear from classmates who are unable or do not want to attend the reunions.

See you in July!

Dear colleagues, my fellow Americans, brethren and sisterns, write, right? G'head, embarrass yerselves. It's fun. Just ask me. Where are these 101 missing people? Is this typical of graduating classes from our time and place, for less than 20% to be able to be hunted up? Where are our chums? Are they spies? In treatment? Hollywood? Hope this isn't too pushy, this exhortation to baer your souls. (Oops, Freudian slip there, eh?) Opinion/editorial is my turf, though I did share a bit of recent poetry with you. So what, my classmates, are your turfs? If we wait to share until the wing ding, we'll all end up knowing less about each other than if we introduce ourselves a bit beforehand. What if you were a famous golfer or baseball player, at the tee or homeplate readying to take your swing. What would the hushed commentator or Dan Gladden have to say about you? And would it include, "Had digi-pix stored on computer but decided because of (fill in your secret fears here) not to share them. With people who took showers with them at age 14. Was that awkward or what? I did develop the technique of getting dressed and THEN removing the towel.

Sorry, I will not be able to attend our reunion, once again. I have been lousy about getting to them. I will shoot for the 45th. I have a work obligation I cannot, and don't really want to, get out of. I will be in Buffalo to see my Dad (he's 95) Aug 28 until the day after Labor day. Actually a good chunk of the time Dad and I will be in the U.P. seeing my sister Jill.
I was fortunate to run into Eileen Roebeck (sorry Eileen I probably have your name wrong) while I was in Buffalo and buying wine for my Dad's birthday in January.(not a great time to return to MN) I think I bought a case and the guests drank two bottles. Remember 90 year olds do not drink a lot.
I hope the Reunion is a fun time for everyone.
Bruce

Alas classmates from yesteryore, while I trust that ye had a splendid gathering, I know also that I was inconspicuous in my absence. T'was a migraine, not mine, a migraine strickening the manager of the second hand store where on Saturdays I earn my monthly sandwich money, said manager having committed to cover for me starting at almost as early in the afternoon as Nila would have liked. (Guess she really didn't want to come in on her day off.) And so I spent the late part of the day with my gardening partner in Eden, while you gala'ed and hula'ed and brouhaha'ed (or whatever you did) through the setting of the sun. M/b next time there will be the opportunity to gaze stupidly around a room trying to discern who used to be who, and to have the old memory jogged about who used to be me in the company of you. No worries. As old Yacqui Don Juan said to his student, Carlos Castaneda after Castaneda had asked him how he felt when he witnessed his son crushed by a poorly-placed load of gravel, "I could have laughed or I could have cried but it made my body feel better to laugh." See you when we're 62. M/b we'll be giddy at the prospect of soon being able to drop the reins. Many, many blessings. Thank you, Marcia, for using your absolutely wonderful gift of language to update us on your life. It has been a delight to read your poetry and ongoing lines of communication. I was unable to attend the reunion as I had been in Minnesota for a visit with family for a month beginning in mid-May. Mosquitoes and humidity are not my cup of tea rather I enjoy the 10 to 12 feet of annual precipitation we receive out here on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. It does help our magnificent trees do rather well in their growth. I do hope the reunion was successful and I hope that some photos are placed on this website for those of us unable to attend. This is great fun! Love and hugs to all...

Hello Classmates,

This is Ray Clifton. Well today is the first official day of fall. It was beautiful here in California - just about 75 degrees and sunny. I was so glad I got to visit with so many of you at our reunion. It just doesn't seem like 40 years have come and gone. Congratulations to Paul G. for winning the 'door prize' again, and again, and again. With that kind of luck you should be buying a lotto ticket from time to time. I hope that some of our 'missing' classmates with find this great site and log in - it would be great to hear from some of you again. I go to the Buffalo Drummer page every Friday to read about local news and happenings. I miss you guys and all of the great times we had in school - I, however, DO NOT MISS THE WINTERS!!! Take care of yourselves and I hope to see you guys again in 5 years. Who knows maybe the 'Winnebago' Lady will appear again.

Hope to talk to you more later.

Ray Clifton

Hello Classmates and Friends,

This is Ray Clifton. I thought I might write a few lines about my memories of our classmates who have passed.

Jack Anderson - I remember Jack having a great sense of humor and his sense of timing was great. I remember him being private about some things but absolutely out there on most everything else. He had a way walking down the hall that kind of reminded me of 'hulking'. I think Jack was much smarter than he let on in school. I liked talking with him.

Donna Docherty - Donna was always friendly to me and went out of her way to speak to me daily. I ran into Donna one evening after graduation out at the old bowling alley. We sat and drank cokes and just talked. She told me she was afraid she would not 'reach' all the goals and dreams she had for her life. I never spoke to her again, sure hope she reached her goals and all her dreams came true.

Michael Hoekstra - I always admired Mike as a person and as an athlete. Mike always seemed to have it together. I never knew him to do anything half way - it was always all or nothing. I think it was great that he found something to do for a living that he loved so much. A person who can enjoy what they do for a lifetime, is truly happy.

Merlin Paulson - Merlin was a great risk taker. I never knew him to be afraid or back down to anyone. I remember thinking that he lived life to the fullest every day. He had a great smile and a genuine laugh. I wish I could have been counted as one of his friends, but it just seemed we didn't run in the same circles. He died way to young.

Harlan Rustad -Harlan and I ate lunch together many times. I liked listening to him talk about life and the such. He had a way of talking out of the side of his mouth. I remember listening to his stories and wondering if they were true or not. When he finished, I would say, "Is that really true?" and Harlan would smile and his eyes would kind of light up and he'd say, "maybe or maybe not." Never knew for sure, but he was sure a great storyteller.

These are just a few of my memories of past classmates. To the rest of you, I have great memories of you in the hallways at school, coming into Esau's (where I worked), and at different activities (games, Pizza Garden, Warners, Bridgeman's). Take care my friends - travel safely on this journey we call life.

Ray Clifton

The 45th reunion is planned for Saturday, July 20 at Huikkos in Buffalo, MN.

I am at an out-of-state conference and can't attend.  Hopefully many of you will be there and I can talk with the committee afterwards about what I missed.

I will be at the next one - the big one - 50!  It's so hard to believe that so many years have gone by; I don't feel like I'm 62, but when I look in the mirror I know I am.

I love every day that God has given me and am so thankful for my family, friends and the freedom to enjoy them.

To John Gilbert, I was so sorry to hear about the fires in your area resulting in the possible loss of your home and property. People will say it is “just stuff”, but we know it is much more than that. I’m glad you and Ronda evacuated safely and I want you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I regret to say I will not be able to attend the September 14 class gathering.  Lee and I were back in MN in June for an extended visit and are now in Annapolis, MD. We’ll be heading south on our boat home soon. Greetings and Best Wishes to all. Dee
