Do you ever wonder why so many of the people of southeast Missouri end up with some type of cancer. I wonder if the airplanes that spray the crops have anything to do with it. Just in my family Grandmother, Uncle, Mother. Every person but one uncle in my mother's side of the family died of cancer.

Do you remember how when we were little we would chase the mosquito spraying truck on our bikes? Not a real smart move for us, was it?

I do think that chemicals in the air and water around us can turn on some genetic disposition that someone may already have...I too, have lost so many family members to cancer. Not only my son, but my mother and my grandfather who I can't remember, and many aunts and uncles. My cousin has bone cancer, which is what my Mom had. Mom was one of 6 siblings, and 5 of the 6 had various types of cancer. It's really scary. Deb, you are right about the mosquito truck. I remember my son practicing baseball and they were spraying very low from a plane, and all of those kids were there. I really thought about that many times after he got sick. When he was at St. Jude, they were very interested in not only family history, but geographical location of where we live to study this very issue. I hope someday they find out exactly why it happens, and pray that there will be a cure. Some areas are very advanced, and some, like brain tumors, need much more research. Vicky Alston Fairey

My mother always said it is not a matter of what it was a matter of when!

Ronnie Warren's wife, Virgie passed away yesterday at 12:51 a.m. Her visitation is tonight at Jesus Name Tabernacle with the funeral tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. Let's all keep Ronnie and the entire family in our thoughts and prayers. This is a very difficult time for him.

Thanks for the update, Vicky. I have heard a lot of wonderful things about her. Was she from C'ville? I will keep he and his family in my prayers.

Virgie was our age and graduated from Cooter High School. She had a great sense of humor. I ran into Vickie Vaughn Parrott tonight at Virgie's visitation. She went to school with us until the 10th grade, and then graduated with Virgie at Cooter. It was a nice surprise to run into her, even though it was a sad occasion. She is going to add her profile and I was able to get her email address and phone number.

I am excited about getting Vickie Vaughn on here as well as any of the others we are missing. Vicky Alston has worked hard to help us get people and we appreciate her telling people about the site and the reunion!

The high school is gone. It is kind of sad. But then again, I don't live in town and have to see what the tornado did to it. If you haven't done so, click on the link at the bottom of the page to see the pictures.

I have heard they saved some of the old High School's material to be used in the new building, can anyone verify this? It would be nice if they did. I will miss the old school too, my Mom and Dad went there, and all my brothers and sisters, most of my cousins, as did many of our classmates family members. The buildings may be gone, but the learning, nurturing, and establishment of core values and principles developed within the classrooms, hallways, gymnasium and grounds of the CHS complex will be passed on to generations not yet even born. The new building will begin the process for new sets of generations of students, teachers, parents and staff, and so it will go on until whenever. Kinda cool, huh? :) sbm

Steve, how eloquent you are! We might have to get you to make a speech at the reunion :)

Seriously, you are right. It just makes me sad to think of it all torn down. But what is that say, 4 walls do not a home (school) make? It is the people.

What about Mike? I sent two great pictures to Kathy. I found them in the study. I don't know how they got there. Chasity must have been going through some of Mom's pictures. I hope Kathy will post them.
