Kitty Hughes (Teeter)

1. I always wanted a convertible Volkswagen like Kathy Ward. I now have one and I drive it every day. Funny my husband has a Hummer 2 truck and all I have ever wanted was a convertible Volkswagen.

2. I have worked all my life to have a successful career and now that career has me. I have had sell of over $5,000,000 for the last several years. And to think I started at Ben Franklin on Ward at 15.

3. I spent 7 days in a shelter in Cancun during Hurricane Wilma. Small things like a TOLIT AND TOLIT PAPER. It makes you really appreciate being an American when you see how the people have to live outside the resorts.

4. My husband David and I have 6 apartment buildings that we own and manage ourselves.

5. We have ownership in a 18 hole golf course and we both play golf.

6. I love talking to my grandchildren. They are all way smarter than I ever was at their age.

7. I have a huge garage sale every year for the Missouri Veteran’s home. I solicit all the junk I can find and donate the proceeds to the Warrensburg Missouri Veteran’s home. Last year that amount was $1,500.00 for one days work.

8. I love computers. I always have one close. I carry my laptop from room to room and I always take it with me on trips. Knowledge and information is a wonderful thing.

9. I have worked at Action Realty Company since 1991 and the owner is a very special person to me. He took me under his wing and made me what I am today by teaching me how the business works. He is a lot like my dad was and we have had lots of arguments like dad and I did. Mainly about I don’t like to dress up. I only like wearing jeans. I am the odd ball at work because I will not honor the dress code. They enforced a dress code and I told them that I was not going to follow it so deal with it. But he and I always take care of each other and he will always have a special place in my heart. My husband and I owe everything we own to this man and we both care a lot about him.

10. I am a fan of Charles Peterson’s art he calls memories. All his paintings remind me of the old neighborhood. When we use to swing on the vines in Debbie’s back yard, ride our bikes thru the water in the dips in the streets around Grand street, buy candy at Crow’s grocery and who could ever forget Pete the greatest cop in town. He always let my sister and I set in his car on cold and rainy days till it was time to cross the street to go to school. These are my happy memories as a child. They are the one great thing about growing up in a small town.

I just have to tell Kitty and Kathy and all of you how proud I am of you all. I almost cry when I read all of the wonderful accomplishments that my classmates have had in their lives. Kitty you and Kathy have just bloomed into the most wonderful, successful women and I'm just in awe of everything you have done....and Gerceida, you just blow me away with your accomplishments! Did you keep your Southern accent? The best part of all of this is that the older we get though, I realize that we can just be ourselves, and see the inside of each other, not the exteriors. Let's face it, we all look different...so what if we are overweight, have gray hair or no hair,or wrinkles on our faces....we were classmates...at a sweet time in our lives... my heart is just full tonight for some reason and I love you all......

And we love you to Vicky. The one thing I noticed is I need to have more FUN. I am starting NOW!

05/27/09 05:51 AM #175

Kathy Barnes (Gillum)

Yes, Kitty I agree, we do need to have more fun. I just find I odd at times what I do for fun.
Life is just getting started and it is great. My days are busy and sometimes it seems as if I never have a free moment, but I would have it no other way.
Vicky, I think we do learn to appreciate our friends for who they are and the fact that we are not all the same, as we get older and just learn in general to appreciate life and what God had given us.
I can't wait until Sept.

OK My sons think most things I say are Random so it should work well. Speaking of Random, I belong to a small Women's group who dine out once a month and then pass the hat so to speak. One lady takes the money and then finds a need and quietly gives the money to that cause. We keep a journal and call our cirlce Random Acts of Kindness. It's a fun way to catch up with friends once a month and to do a good deed. You may want to start such a group yourself. Ok, That was Random. .Next, Today is the first day of June which in my mind should be called the first day of summer. I love summer and my body calendar still revolves around an academic calendar. While my major was French, not education, I did end up in the classroom as a teacher which is very random now that I think about it. My goal was NEVER to be a teacher. Speaking of random, I'm taking Spanish classses...not really sure why but it keeps my brain busy. I enjoy reading about everyone's grandchildren, but I think - WOW I'm way too young for grandchildren! I too love beaches...any beach. Last summer I took a Spanish Class in the Domican Republic..great beach. The day before we left my husband realized his passport had expired. I could have killed him! It's a long story however he did join me a couple of expensive days later. My Mother continues to live in Caruthersville and is active in many civic activities. She's been her visitng here for a couple of weeks and now is visiting my brother, John Mark who lives in Maryland. It's sad to go back and no longer have my grandparents or Father. I often tell people I grew up in Mayberry; and that was a good thing. A few Random things I mentioned to Debbie earlier were that some of you may remember my friend Cathy Crowe who would come visit from Kennett. The summer (we were in jr. high) of around '68 I spent a couple of weeks there taking Jr. Lifesaving since we didn't have it in C'ville. Anyway, her little sister used to run around the house singing the popular tune on the radio "me and my arrow" and we'd say Hush Cheryl....no one wants to hear you sing. BOY>>>we we wrong on that one!! Right after CherylCrowe cut her first CD my Mother was looking for it in a mall in Maryland and my brother said , "Mother, that will only be for sell at home in a regional market:...again, Boy we were wrong!! Random thoughts..some of you may remember my cousin Billy Cardwell. He lived in Parkview and at first on the street behind Laurant; several of you took piano from my aunt Dorothy... Anyway, he's become a well know custom drum maker and even made drums recently for Ringo. Speaking of Ringo, it shocks peoplewhen I saw the Beatles in Concert in Memphis...an advantage of having an older sister. Speaking of which, my older sister Jane lives in Columbia Mo. I hope this message forum has spell check! Well, those are my random thoughts...speaking of spell check here's one last one. My brother and I agree probably the most important class we ever took at CHS was typing. We would never have guessed at the time about this computer/internet thing however we're glad we have the quick skills on the keyboard acquired at CHS...looking forward to seeing each of you in Sept. and YES...Gerceida you should write a book. Cyndy (hope that's 10ish...math never was my thing)

Very interesting, Cyndy. I am amazed at the things our classmates have done (and how funny they are!). You have to tag someone that hasn't been tagged yet...No spell check, but you can go back in and edit if you see something you want to change. That's what I do.
Ok, maybe only administrators can do that. I can help if someone wants to clean theirs up!

From Vickie Vaughn Parrott:
Vicky, Well thanks for the kind words and I should have waited to
make that statement, because yesterday, I had to go to the doctor,
DR.JOE KULPEKSA...and he gave me something for PAIN...did blood
work up, and should know the results in a couple of weeks, so will SEE about the "NO-MED"...seems like maybe I be starting to fall apart this YEAR! HA!
Also, I wanted to let you know, I took my business card and GAVE it to Dr. Kulpeksa my self, with our website address on the back, and he asked me what that was for, and I told him to SIGN ON:) He
is aware of the reunion, but guess just covered up with all these "OLD" people having aches & pains...
