He really was quite the ladies man in elementary school, wasn't he girls? He became shy for some reason in Jr. High and High School. I remember he used to walk Jane to her car....carried books for her and Kitty, too I think...Harold, I think your random things were great, and I'm very proud of you. You are a great cousin, friend, and most of all a good Christian...I love you..........

Hey Cyndy...enjoyed your random things. I was one of your Aunt Dorothy's piano students. I took lessons from her when I first started and then later took from Jeanette Bracey. When I was in nursing school, I had to do some clinicals at the health dept. in Blytheville and was surprised to see her working there. We had a nice visit.Looking forward to seeing you....I ran into Steve House about a month ago at Wal-Mart. I haven't see him in probably 30 years and he said "I remember you and Cyndy playing those double reeded instruments." He thought I played oboe, but I set him straight. (Cyndy played oboe and I played bassoon and we were in a woodwind quartet and made All Division and All-District- we did sound pretty good didn't we?) Were you in stage band also? I played piano for that and had a lot of fun...played once at the riverfront underneath the flagpole....don't remember HOW they got my piano up there...I think that picture is in the yearbook (Sr. yr), but all you can see is the top of my head behind the piano........

As it appears I have been tagged twice and duly scolded more than twice, I will attempt to think of ten things about me that won't put anyone to sleep. Before settling back down in good ole C'ville, I lived and worked in Washington D.C., Houston, Texas and St. Louis. I also lived in Collinsville, Illinois, but did not work there, was just a boring and very bored housewife! Enough said about that! I love to travel and have been to Mexico, Central America, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. A few years ago, Neise and I spent a week in San Diego, had a large time and yes, Neise, I intend to share some photos (tee-hee). In February of this year, I became engaged to Bobby Alexander, a 1974 graduate of Hayti High School. We plan on having a cruise ship wedding, though we haven't decided when or to where! Bobby has a Kawasaki 1600 and I found out I love to ride. Last summer we rode to Gatlinburg, rented a cabin in the mountains for a few days, rode on over into North Carolina and I never once complained about my, well, the part that was on that motorcycle seat for 8 hours. (I am very proud of this). I grew up in the "country" and am once again living in the "country"! Now I have to go find someone to tag. How about Lesia Dudney Miller? Gotcha!

Hi everyone....I would like you all to pray for Donna House Brooks. I called her tonight to see if she was going to go to the meeting with me tomorrow morning, and she has been very ill and was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Cape and had to have surgery on Monday of this week. She is home but still very weak. She said that she felt bad last Thursday at work and went home sick and had 103 temp. She called Dr. Bernard who told her to go to the ER, and she had MRSA, which is a very serious staph infection from the site where she had gotten an injection for her rheumatoid arthritis. The place became very large and required surgery. She is still pretty sick and Mike is taking good care of her, along with their daughters....Donna, we love you....get well soon...........

Here are Ray Gurley's 10 random things as sent to me
From Ray Gurley
Subject Re: tagged

I know the most important thing to me is that I live in a country where I can worship God without fear.

My wife of 32 years is "here it comes," my best friend, yes she truly has been good for me. She has helped me realize the true meaning of family. I don't mean to take anything away from my momma who did her very best to, let's just say curb my enthusiasm. Most of you remember my wild ways.

My two daughters, Shannon the oldest, and Kristy, are both professional nurses. I guess they got that inclination from their mother, Glenda, who was a surgery nurse for twenty four years and now works in the mental health field.

My oh my.....Grandchildren Abby, 13, an honor student, cheerleader and the prettiest girl in middle school. Just ask her, lol. Well, she and her brother Tyson,11, who was inducted into the national honor society this year, have lived with us since the tornado of 06. We lost our homes and purchased a church and converted it into our new home. There's no brighter light in my life like my grandkids especially Anna Marie, 19 months old and knows exactly which buttons to push.

I am so thankful for the teachers that had the patience and determination to drill something, anything into my head, hard as it was for them, some of it sank in. I've had my own buisness for several years now and although I'm not getting rich, I am able to provide for my family in a way I only dreamed of in my youth. Again, thank God for this country.

I was able to develop my songwriting skills while playing guitar and singing in local bands and was fortuate enough to have several songs published and have recorded in Nashville recording studios. That was a time I cherish but am very satisfied staying at home these days.

I have lived a rollercoaster life. I am now on the downhill side, but in no way is it not exciting. I have memories that will be with me for the rest of my life of my classmates, teachers and experiences that brings joy to my heart and sometimes tears to my eyes......School days.
I wanted to tag Phil McElyea.

Ray, how special your random list was. A song writer, huh? I wish I could get Phil to join. I have sent him 3 letters but with no luck. He lives here in Memphis, too. Maybe I should just drop in one day! No, I draw the line at that. I know some of you are glad to hear that! Take care, Ray, and feel free to tag someone else. Let me know if you would like a list of who hasn't been tagged. Look forward to seeing you in September!

Donna House (Brooks)

Donna House Brooks
Here are my 10 random things-

1. I am now recovering from my "freak" illness; things are getting better, I think. I have rhuematoid arthritis as my mother did. Thankfully I am not as bad as she was. I do have one new knee replacement that has really helped me.
2. Mike and I have been married for 32 years, and we have 2 great daughters. Jennifer & Catherine. Jennifer has a son Kaleb, who is now 6 years old and a new daughter Candace Nicole born May 29. Who knew grandkids could be so special. Kaleb is the boy Mike never had.
3. Catherine is 23 and finishing college to be a preschool teacher; she also works in the office at Trinity.
4. I am the City of Caruthersville tax collector; everyone is so happy to see me in November! Ha.
5. Mike has worked at Trinity since high school, if the shipyard was open he was there. He is now a barge inspector.
6. I have worked at Cooter and Caruthersville Schools as an associate teacher. I took a break to stay with my mother until her death in 1994. ( I haven't been the same since she died) Ater that I went to work at the courthouse with Pam Strawbridge and Mary Jane Ledford in the Recorder of Deeds office. They are 2 of my best friends. Now I am at City Hall; I just say that I have moved uptown.
7. Karen Clayton, my sister lives here and teaches 4th grade; she will become a grandmother any day now. Kimberly is expecting a boy.
8. David my brother also lives here. My dad remarried 3 years ago and moved to Caruthersville; it was hard to see him sell our house at McCarty. He married Teeny Bond and he seems to be happy.
9. Mike and I love the St. Louis Cardinals and usually go to a couple of games each year.
10. I have enjoyed this website and admire all of you computer savvy people. I am just learning, somewhat slowly to use the computer for something other than work.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.

Hey All,
It's great to see more of our classmates get in on this message forum. I read about your random things and am just amazed at what wonderful things and clever wit I see. I would walk a long way for some BBQ from Caruthersville, it truly is a special taste from Knox's, Mr. Jacks, Clarks or the old Tennessee Inn with Mr. Peeler and the pits. Now that was BBQ!

Great to hear you are doing well Donna Brooks, sorry you got an infection from a needle stick that is supposed to help you. Life does happen, doesn't it. I am looking forward to the reunion more every day!

Now, being married to a nurse, I know if someone could find out who is Dr. Joe's or Dr. Jeff's main nurse, get word to them they need to do everything for them except hit the send button (like they do anyway), we would hear from the Good Doctors... :) sbm

06/10/09 07:20 PM #217

Debbie Holland (Phillips)

I have heard from Dr. Jeff. He will not be able to come to the reunion due to his niece being married that week end elsewhere. Now, Dr. Joe...he is another matter! I have written him several times (snail and email) and a lot of the girls at home have talked to him. I hope he registers in time to be included in all the festivities.
He is going to miss out on a lot of fun and special times.
Okay, I figure he will probably come, but we need his money and to know whether he wants chicken or beef! Someone call his nurse! :)
