I attended the Univ. of Utah, lived in southern Germany for 2 years (in Ulm, um Ulm und um Ulm herum -- danke, Herr Mueller!) as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, moved to Chicago 1974 for more school and lived 46 years in Chicago and suburbs.

Married at 39 -- after meeting Sally Marsh, an interior designer and artist. We have 2 children. I managed finances for engineering and architecture firms.

Retired Summer of '17 and was part-time substitute teacher in charter schools, all grades and subjects, throughout the city. Liked K-3 best.

Moved to Salt Lake City August 2020. We like the less humid climate and more sunny days. Enjoying mountain views, hiking and skiing -- and especially granddaughter Eloise, born here January 8, 2021!

School Story

Though last chair in the French horn section, I was No. 1 at blowing spitwads through the horn to ding off the fire bell or thunk off Henry Nathanson's bass drum. Mr. Charlson warned me mid-May 1967 that I had only 2 weeks to turn in 3 months of physics homework so I could graduate with the rest of you. Just made it.

Looking back, I count myself fortunate to have enjoyed the activities and (most of) the classes at WHS. Even more satisfying is the memory of time with all our classmates and many great teachers.

Jim, of the entire class of '67, you may have done the best job of maintaining your hairline and still being recognizable by your high school photo. Thanks for your efforts to keep our class in touch. Best birthday wishes!

Rob, can't believe I missed your day. Thinking about your writing reminded my of another great physician/poet. One of my all time favorites is "The Ivy Crown" by William Carlos Williams.

Many thanks for your memorial to Francis. There were so many great people in Cedar Rapids. I knew many at Kenwood, McKinley and Washington but the In Memorium comments show clearly that there were many, many more wonderful people that I never became well acquainted with. Thank you for opening my eyes to another exemplary classmate.
