Velotta Gift Challenge

Fellow Class of 1993 Alumni,

We are excited to announce to the Class of 1993 the launch of the Velotta Gift Challenge!  Our class has been challenged by CAPT and Mrs. John C. Velotta, USN (Ret.), parents of our classmate, LT John A.Velotta, USN, Delta Company, to make a gift in John Velotta's memory to raise scholarship money for the John A. Velotta Class of 1993 Armed Forces Scholarship.

The Velotta Gift Challenge launches today, Monday, June 3rd, and will end on Friday, November 1st, which is our 20th reunion weekend.  During the challenge, Captain and Mrs. Velotta will match all donations up to $20,000 on a $2 for $1 basis!  To be eligible for matching funds, donations must be made to The Citadel Foundation and designated to the John A. Velotta Class of 1993 Armed Forces Scholarship.  All donations must be received by The Citadel Foundation on or before November 1, 2013, to be eligible for this challenge.

Your gift to the John A. Velotta Class of 1993 Armed Forces Scholarship endowment, which will provide financial assistance to a cadet pursuing a military commission, will enable future generations to experience the same education, opportunity, and lifelong camaraderie we each received at The Citadel.  Gifts of any size will make an impact, and every gift will be matched by Captain and Mrs. Velotta during the challenge, up to a total of $20,000 in donations received by The Citadel Foundation.

Captain and Mrs. Velotta feel strongly that no Citadel graduate who receives a military commission upon graduation and undertakes service to our country, which could result in the ultimate sacrifice, should enter his or her military service with the burden of college debt.

The Velottas would like to thank the Class of 1993 for their efforts and support for the return of John's Citadel ring.  As some of you may recall, John's ring was stolen while he served in the Navy and was recently found on eBay, purchased by our Kilo Company classmate Mark Jordan, and returned to his parents in February 2013 when they made their first trip back to The Citadel in 20 years.

Please join us in making a gift to the Velotta Gift Challenge.  You can make your gift safely and securely on The Citadel Foundation's website at foundation.citadel.edu/velottachallenge.

Thank you in advance for your support.  We hope to see you the weekend of November 1st as we celebrate our 20th Citadel reunion and the Velotta Gift Challenge!

Regards,

CDR Matthew J. Bonner, USN, Charlie Company

Mark Jordan, Kilo Company
