I have been fortunate to get to travel, go to school forever (finally a Music PhD in 2000!!) Graduated on my 50th. I'm always happy to run into fellow former City Highers. And in case anyone doesn't know it, we had THE BEST damn education one could ever hope for. God bless you, Col. Bates for making it all possible, Thanks Mr. Tilson. You ARE the best ever. Thanks to Madame Pearson, Miss Pryor, Bun Strong, Mr. Long, Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Crane and many others who made my way a lot easier. I can only remember being in French class and Band. Did I go to other classes?? I guess I did. Who can forget the SEX class in 10th grade? Oh, the jokes that one class provided....
My memories of high school revolve around playing in the band, escaping the commons to eat lunch in the band room, swing band (3rd period), and Miss Pryor's shows. A trip to New Orleans (where Mr. Tilson caught me and Tony Sams sneaking back to the hotel after a late-night jaunt to Krystals). I ate fried shrimp for the first time in my life at The Court of Two Sisters, and made everyone's evening by trying to eat the shrimp whole-didn't know you weren't supposed to eat the tails...
I also remember our band trip to New York and the old Madison Square Garden. "The days of Wine and Roses." Speaking of wine, I remember "someone" throwing up on Papa Jewel's shoes. But I ain't talking.
I still know all the words to The Music Man.
