The kids that grew up in the part of Chattanooga that I grew up in all went to either Central or Brainerd. I lived off Brainerd Rd. and my Mother would only let me go to City High. I think she felt that I would get a better education there. So.....I would get up every morning and stand on Brainerd Rd between 5 and 6 am in the rain, snow, and sleet to catch a bus from Brainerd to downtown, then, I would have to transfer buses at the corner of 7th and Market St downtown to go across the river and get let out at the foot of the hill. It was an ordeal and I swore that when school was out our senior year (1970) that I would never step on a Chattanooga City bus again....and I never did🙆🏻 But it was a blessing in disguise as I met friends that I still have very strong connections with today. Love you Freida Robertson, Anne Dahlstrom, Brenda Bowden (deceased), Becky Hawkins, and Mike Brown! Yes, those were the days my friends❤️
