Shannon Bonner Mowrer

I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill, then moved to Charlotte to teach. After finding my husband Jody and having our son John, we moved to Chattanooga. We had a daughter Allison, who lives in Cranston, RI and is also a teacher. She has been married for 14 years. I don't think we will have any grandchildren, but we have two beautiful "grandcats"!

I have been here teaching ever since 1973. I retired from Hamilton Co. schools in 2007 after 34+ years of teaching. I taught Developmental English as an adjunct at UTC for three fall semesters. Now I sub two or three days a week at Hixson High School. It is a great way to see old friends and get a kid fix without having to do all that planning and grading.

I am still a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and am very active there.
My most important ministry is Family Promise of Greater Chattanooga, formerly Interfaith Homeless Network. I am the volunteer coordinator at St. P's.

I am enjoying time on our Reunion Committee as the class of 1964 at CHS plans its 50th reunion!! Our reunion is May 16 & 17 , 2014.

One of my favorite memories is Ms. Lucille Johnson, my jr. English teacher, coming into class on a gorgeous spring day in her raincoat, umbrella, and golashes. She stood on her desk and read rain poetry to us! What a creative example for this English teacher!
