Vance Travis

TWH Architects is an architectural firm he started in 1984. Several award winning projects include the Ocoee Whitewater Center which hosted the Olympic canoe and kayaking venue in 1996. He served on the Tn Architectural Licensing Board for 9 years before being elected to serve on the National Council of Architectural Registration Board(NCARB) of Directors from 2002-2004. He currently serves on the Chattanooga Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission.

I look forward to attending the 2010 reunion. It is an honor to be a City High alumnus where we had the good fortune of receiving a public education second to none including Chattanooga's renowned private schools. We can thank our success to our dedicated teachers, loving parents, and a student body that was ripe with energy and hope!

I had the good fortune of attending the original City High School in 1963 before moving to the new facility in North Chatt in 1964. I also was selected as the architect to restore the original building on East Third St to accommodate the very successful Chatt School for the Arts and Sciences(CSAS) that currently occupies the 100 year old structure. It is hard to believe when we were sophomores at the "old school" on E. Third that there was no air conditioning, there was no metal detector or SRO, there was no elevator but a lot of stairs connecting four+ levels, students(ROTC) were allowed to carry rifles, the auditorium felt like you were at the Tivoli, etc. My how times do change!
