Our daughter, Lea, had our first grandchild in 2013, which provided our first vacation to Hawaii (her husband Andrew was a chef in the Army there - they're now at Fort Lewis, near Seattle). As grandparents, my wife is "Bubbe" and I am "Saba". Our son, a drone technician in the Army, is stationed in Alaska, and was married in 2013 to a gorgeous young woman from Orlando.
My wife and I have been teaching Bible studies at church for many years; in addition, she teaches Precept Bible studies from Precept Ministries. I worked with Boy Scouts for quite a few years until my son, David, attained his Eagle rank.
Work on the Maroon and White was great, first working with Mrs. Zimmerman as sponsor, then with Ann Ward. Both were great teachers, and always motivated me to do more. Miss Ward was always fun, yet commanded respect because she was such a hard worker herself. It was always a good day to get to go to the printer's to mark up galleys - we could stop by Kay's and get frozen chocolate malts! And Miss Ward let us drive her car.
Working backstage was a good experience for me - it allowed me to participate in the productions without having to speak onstage - I was never exactly an artist, but painting scenery was possible with Miss Pryor's help - she didn't have a lot of patience, but if you worked hard, she would reward you with a war story from a different class and a different time; and it would include a grin. I saved my performance mode for playing the piano (as long as it was not a solo). I could play duets, which gave me a little help from my friends - I always admired Pam's discipline in her piano practice; and Susan Vess was one of the sweetest people I ever met.
