Barry- gotcha. It sounds like you "felt the music" more as the night progressed. Yes and kids do not want to be embarassed by thier parents. I explained and still explain to my kids, but Parents live to embarrass our kids.

I'm with you, Karen! I was in your drive-thru ordering snacks while everyone else was disco-ing! If I wasn't there, I was in Robin Fridette's basement doing the Continental with all my girlfriends. Of course, if this had happened today, we would have been working one of the poles in that basement!

Great story, Ryne.
But this was my very favorite part:

"I said, “you are going to make me knock my lunch on my new yellow corduroys”

LOL. If nothing else takes me back to those days, it would be the image of those yellow corduroys!!!!

If I remember right, Ryne got all of his fashion ideas from game show host, Wink Martindale.

Anyone want to go to Poor Boys tonight?

Oh, Barry - that was great Wink comment. I am still laughing. Who knew he was a metro fashion craze.

Ryne - do you press you jeans!!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly, you looked sharp at the wine tasting when we saw each other last.

Mark, Poor Boys - now I think it is a parking garage. That area has been transformed big time. VCU has taken over. It has been a good thing.

Hello fellow classmates!

I just wanted to say that I hope you have a wonderful sunny, warm Spring weekend!

Its 8:30am here now, cool, cloudy and raining just a bit!

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone in September.

Its been fun catching up with people and hearing the old stories!

I do remember my first year at MHS I had a locker in the Senior bldg by accident. I was 4'4" tall and some of the jocks used to throw me on top of the lockers right before the bell rang or they would throw me in one of those tall trashcans!

Now, its funny! Then, not so much! I grew to a whopping
five feet one and a half inches tall so I could take them on now :)

Have a great weekend y'all! Stay safe.

Tricia (formely LP) :)

I just noticed that the "attending reunion" number went from 50 to 13? What is up with that?

Ryne, I remember that pink izod too! :) I don't remember the yellow cords though - those may have arrived on the scene after "julie left the building" so to speak. Don't be too shocked - haven't you heard its the quiet ones that'll surprise ya? Great story, thanks for posting it!

Barry and Brian and all those who live to embarrass their children: as someone who is just now raising a little darling, the "child embarrassing mommy" moments have not faded from memory. Work so hard to teach him manners (he's really quite good most of the time)so we can go to a restaurant with tablecloths and take him, and what does he do? at the top of his lungs, announces, halfway through the appetizers, that he has to go poopy right now! Revenge will me mine, saith the mommy. I'm taking notes on how to embarrass him in 10 years. Although from what I observe, merely existing is an embarrassment. And parents being so bold as to have an intimate life is a mortification to a teenager. heh heh.

so, flashback Friday. I didn't do any of the clubbing many of you report. Worked 2 jobs, Thalhimers after school and on weekends, and as an overnight babysitter for an ER nurse 4 nights a week. That kept me pretty busy. But, as I've mentioned before, I did really enjoy band. Especially when we played Thomas Dale, because some of my friends from All Regional Band were in the TD marching band. One night, after pizza (no not at Sals, this was an away game in Chester) I had to run back to my car to get something, before we all went cruising looking for gawd knows what. Anyways, I got my belongings, and hopped in the back seat of the car, and in my chirpiest voice said "I'm all ready, lets book!" and then I looked into the astonished eyes of two businessmen, looking back at me from the front seat. I shot out of the car, and saw my friends across the parking lot, looking puzzled about what in the world Julie was doing. When I told them the story between gasps of laughter, we all about peed ourselves.

We also went to about every concert that come to Richmond. Doobie Brothers, Aerosmith, Eagles, the Dead, Ted Nuget. Yes, Ted Nuget. I went whether I cared for the music or not, because the scene was fun and tickets were cheap then. So I was still quite the innocent on the Ted Nuget night, and remember him screaming out that he wanted to eat all that sweet Richmond (insert Tommy D's favorite word) tonight...and being absolutely shocked. Yes, indeed I was. After that I became more discriminating on who I went to see...but still, got to watch a lot of concerts back in the day. Surprised my son by being able to sing along to "Sweet Emotion". He's an Aerosmith fan ever since riding the rock and roll rollercoaster at Disney World.

Went to see the Eagles just a few months ago...the music still sounds good!

Hey Ryne- Tell us about those 3 wives. Sounds like an interesting story....

Steve and Kim, thanks for the birthday wishes. Now I am as old as my wife... until November when the old lady turns 49. I can remember playing tennis with my cousin's husband back when I was 17 or so. He was 23 and I thought he was an antique. Funny how we see things differently as we start getting up there in years.

hey Julie, regarding what your son said at the restaurant, "he has to go poopy right now!" I do that to my kids and it embarrasses the crap out of them... almost as much as my dancing.

Julie Gramstead (Bateman)

Barry, LOL, I'll remember that!

Julie- I will clarify that we live to embarass our kids! It starts out very innocent. Just last week, my 12 year old daughter and I were driving home from me taking her to work out (yes she does better at that than Dad) and we passed her "boyfriend". Well I like the kid so I honked and waved. If it not had been for the seat belt she would have been on the floor. I probably should have known better for already raising having a raised a daughter. Well now comes the fun part - I then on purpose offered to drive back an aplogize to tell him I did it on my own and a few other suggestions. We ended up laughing till it hurt. Anyway at 22- 24 it then get ot be real fun - because it becomes a game.

Brian, it sounds like you have a great relationship with your daughter. As a Daddys girl myself, those moments will be treasures for her!

I hope the weather is warming up back home there and you all are enjoying some great sunshine and warmth!

The 20th reunion was so fun - at Ashby Stinson's farm - is he coming to this one? Has anyone talked to Danny Applewhite - I will call Mark Heslep since he lives near me in McLean. We have to get "the Missing" - sounds like something on the show Lost - which I quit watching with my 2 teenage sons since I got "lost" myself after season 2 - and they do NOT appreciate my questions during the show - but I THINK they kinda miss me watching it with them - who knows! Have a good one everybody! Muffin
