Phyllis Beckford-Smith is the Founder and President of the  Sistas of the Soil (SOS,  an idea that was birthed  in  December of 2008  out of the need for a coalition  of powerful, positive and productive women,  to become a strong unit that supports and empower one another so that they  will be able to achieve  more.  She believes that the  Goddesses of the  Caribbean  possess the ability to   positively impact communities,  cities and even the  world on the one concept of unity through sisterhood. That inspired her.

Phyllis was born and raised in the Island of Jamaica and embodies the true spirit of ‘an Island girl”, charming funny, very talented  with the  burning vigor of the sun and the audacity of hope.  She strongly believes in the word of   Philippians  4 v 13…  “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” , so she lives her live in like manner

Phyllis has a passion for helping others, especially the young people and single mothers, and often refer to herself as God’s assistant for mankind. She is the host of a local talk show, “The Phyllis Smith Show” on which she tackles issues that affect  her communities and try to bridge the divide between them and  various Government sectors. She is presently working with other community organizers to develop  strategies whereby the youths  can improve their mental, emotional and social wellbeing,  by guiding them away from conditions that are conducive to their failure.

Phyllis  is  a wife and mother of two. She is also a real estate agent, who has worked over the years to make home ownership possible for many individuals, especially minorities and low-income families.

Her vision for  Sistas Of The Soil to see it develop  globally, forming a common bond  of sistahood  around the world while  embodying the full meaning of it’s motto  “I am my sistas keeper”.
