Gulp. Did Ricky Robbins graduate from Heights?

Terri,
I read the link you posted for Duncan, thank you. Initially I didn't think I knew him. Now I think I may have.

As for Canterbury Elementary...part of Canterbury went to Wiley, and part maybe to Roxboro? I have some black & white pics in my photo album from 6th grade. Ann & Ava Schwartz went there, Leslie Corwin, Terrie Lurie, Helene Leonard, Debbie Miller, Paula Skolnik, Sherie Speser. I'm going to try to send it to Val for posting, but it might be too small to see everyone. Anyone ever hear from Sue Schiff?

Clare and anyone else who is interested, here is my recipe for Coconut bars. It is not difficult, but takes two days to make them.

Ingredients

1 package of yellow, white or chocolate cake mix ( used Duncan Hines which is dairy or Manischevitz to make it parve)
1/2 C unsweetened cocoa
1 1/2 C sugar
1 1/2 C boiling water
2 tsp. vanilla (the real extract)
finely flaked coconut (if you live in the Cleveland area, Alesci's sells it)

1. Prepare a day ahead the cake batter according to the directions and bake in a 9X13" pan.
2. Place in freezer uncovered until frozen. Cut into small squares.
3. Syrup mix: Mix cocoa, sugar and boiling water together, stir and cook on top of stove for 10 minutes, just to boiling. Add vanilla, cover with waxed paper, cool for 2 hours.
4. Place finely flaked coconut in bowl, line cookie sheet with waxed paper with a rack on top.
5. Dip 5 bars of frozen cake in syrup, placing each one on the rack. In the same order, dip each one in coconut and with clean hands.

Makes about 3 dozen. Can be frozen and thawed when needed.

Richard N. Robbins never graduated from any high school. He did manage to murder folk singer Ted Browne in 1968 and then, a few years later, he was the also the one to kill Marilyn Steele - the infamous Judge Steele's wife.
He was not prosecuted for the Ted Browne murder until 1978. Nasty dude.

Just to add some light.....Allison Krause did attend Taylor from 3-6th grade and then moved to PA.

Brian Hacker was a very talented, soft spoken artist who was in our class.

Ted Brown was a very talented folk singer, who was a regular performer at Faragher's Back Room on Taylor.

I believe Allison Krause DID attend Taylor. In fact, my recollection was that she was in my girl scout troop (for the part of one year that I was a Girl Scout).

What elementary schools fed into Monticello??

Brian Hacker attended Coventry with me. So sorry to learn about this tragic end of a young life.

I remember Brian from a 5th grade photo (Class teacher was Mrs. Lewis)which I cannot locate. Perhaps others can find that photo.

Also in the class were Henry Lustig, Louis Nims, Dan Kapp, Patricia Pass.

Bonnie and Shelley,
Allison's photo is in the Taylor Rd 6th grade photo of Mr. Feldman's class that I uploaded to the photo album section. She was only in my class that one year so I can't vouch for any other years.

BTW, I've copied both recipes submitted...were they the same recipe? Thanks.

Sandie

Shelley...

I know Oxford fed into Monty, and I'm pretty sure Noble did too.

Shelley and Bill,
According to my Monticello husband, Noble and Oxford fed into Monticello. I think Milliken did, also.

Bonnie,
I really had thought that Allison was in Mrs. Marsh's 3rd grade class with Sandie and me. Is there a possibility that she is the girl in the top row on the far right?

I think Brian Hacker was in my homeroom at Roosevelt. I guess if he's not on our graduation list, he didn't finish with us. What happened?

Anne,
I'm sure that the girl you are talking about is Barbara Kurlander. She's in other class photos as well. Trust me on this one, I KNOW I'm right. I'm sure once all the Taylor photos are up, we will find her in some other classes.

I'm getting through the profiles one at a time. Only those of you who have uploaded photos on your profiles will be on the pictures then and now page so if you want to be represented, get busy uploading recent photos of yourself and family. Also, I really need to know what elementary schools and jr high schools you all went to so if you could write it in your profiles that would be great or email them to me. There is now a heading on the profile page just for the elementary school and jr high school entry so addd it there. Thanks!

I had Ms Klopher(sp) for 3rd grade and have no idea who Allison had......but she was in Girl Scouts with Shelley and I. I did hang out with Allison a lot during Taylor years.

Sandie and Bonnie,
OK, another one of my memory bubbles have been burst if she wasn't in Mrs. Marsh's class! It's not the first time that I've remembered something inaccurately. It's the aging process. :)

Does anyone remember a Pat Luce (spel) who went to Roosevelt... Once in a while names come into my mind from the past and his is one???
Also does anyone have Ms Richards second grade picture????

Terri Morris (Balchen)

Pat Luce was in Mr. Beyer's English class in 10th grade with me.

Sandy, I don't remember your mother. And Laura Sweeney's name is familiar but I can't recall the face.

How about Mr. Gordon. As I recall he was almost blind and his wife came in and wrote all the work on the blackboard. I think it was Geometry and I think it was 10th grade for me. I hope this isn't a false memory!

Mr. Gordon was my homeroom teacher for three years. He was nearly blind, wrote on the true slate blackboard in large numbers with oversized chalk. His wife assisted with his grading and assignments. He was a pretty nice fellow. Played football for Heights then Western Reserve.

In my junior year a fellow student, who was also a wise guy, sat backwards in the second year algebra class. He bet another in the class that Gordon would not catch him. As expected, the wise guy was caught in a predictable moment - poor Mr. Gordon was so angry and shocked that anyone would try such a stunt that he just seethed. Were it not for empathy, it might have been cruelly funny.

I remember Mr. Gordon and "Fuzzy" Felton as well. I remember Mr. Gordon had to get up REAL close to the blackboard to see what was there. I don't think he faced it straight on either. He had to look at it kinda sideways using his peripheral vision. He was a good teacher though.

Mr Rutan (SPIL??) at Roosevelt gave out blank maps where we had to fill in the names... Some were very detail.... He said I had Kent in the wrong county... I proved him wrong but he still said I was mistaken...
This was before the schools closed for the Jewish Holidays... I remember one teacher would give a test and then flunk anyone who was out for that holiday... One parent threaten to sue him and that was the end of that...

I had Mr. Gordon for one of my math courses. I do remember him writing on the board and he was very sight impaired. His wife helped him with grading papers, etc. It was amazing about how much he knew that was happening around him. I liked him as a teacher!

I also remember Mr. Rutan. Boy, those maps were something else. It was like memorization all the time.

Was Mr. Gordon any better than Miss Hunting? I had Miss Hunting for both Geometry (all year) and the ONE semester of Algebra 2 that I took. She was an awful teacher...but I think I already said that on this board. I BEGGED that nasty Dr. Bell to switch me to a different math class, and I got the line "there will be a lot of people you don't like in your life". Thanks Dr. Bell...if I had had a better math teacher at Heights, I would have been a premed major in college.

(It's quiet at work right now.)
I'd like to know how to make Matzoh brie, by the way.

I use the Manischewitz matzoh ball/soup mix, but:
I make my own chicken soup separate.
I boil up the yucky broth that Manischewitz provides.
I prepare the matzoh ball mix and refrigerate it as instructed, although I use olive oil.
I roll up the matzoh balls in 1-1 1/2" balls and put them all in a dish. (I smear my gloved hands with olive oil.)

When the broth is boiling hard and fast and all of the balls have been rolled, I drop all of the balls in at one time, securely cover the pot, and lower the heat so it doesn't boil over.
I have found that this makes them fluffy and gives the matzoh balls their own chickenish flavor without wasting good soup.
I pitch the starchy Manischewitz broth and put the cooked balls in my good chicken soup.

Shelly, I remember going into Dr Bell's office and ranting about Mrs Fabian, the home ec teacher.
Got the same result.

I told her, 'you have GOT to get me out of the class!'

Wish I had me for a mother then. I'd have gotten me out of the class!
