Louie,

You are right.....2pm-4pm FST Florida Siesta Time!! In this summer heat..you either voluntarily nap or pass out!!!

The Alta Cocker card is issued only after you have lived here for one summer, go to 25 'Early Bird' meals, drive in the left lane below the speed limit during rush hour and complain about how much less things cost up North 'at home.' If you meet all of these Florida Alta Cocker pre requisites, you can claim you card when you go in to renew your driver's license but only after you step on the gas once, instead of your brakes, and go through a store window or someone's living room window.

Kind of sounds like a George Carlin routine!!!

HI Sandie, I remember that fall in Home EC at Heights. I must have been in your class. Mrs. Cohen just slid right down on the floor (I think on a french frie). Everybody just stood there trying not laugh. She really looked dazed after that.

Beth - I wish they had an alta cocker card here in Cleveland. God knows we need it with all these baby boomers still left in Cleveland!!!!

Charles, (Chuck) Balcher

All the girls at Roosevelt had those loose leaf notebooks with the Beatles on the cover. I was so jealous. Why couldn't they have had my picture on it instead? Later they put Kennedy or Nixon, on the cover. We had to write a paper on either China or Russia, in Mr. Rutan's history class.
I had a hard time memorizing that table of elements in Chemistry class in 12th grade at Heights. The Tigers Den was accross the hall from the cafeteria. I think I looked in it once. There were about 5 classmates in there. The Tigers Den, was only for only our class. I think I saw Henry L. and Larry E. in there. What ever happened to the Tigers Den? I didn't live too far from Heights, so, sometimes I went home to eat lunch. I'm trying to figure out why I remember so much about junior high school, and so little about Heights. Meeting all the new kids at Roosevelt, was fun and exciting. At Heights,I had to focus more on just passing. Or maybe I just don't want to remember!

Chuck, I'm the same way about remembering all of Roosevelt and little of Heights. It was a shock when I got to Heights that I didn't have anyone of my friends in my classes. (ok Bob Kingslinger was in my homeroom.) It was like starting a new school for me in a new district. The only way I kept in touch was not through school, but after school. Susan, Betty and I shared a locker but that was it! Then in Senior year I got a steady boyfriend (my ex) and mostly hung out with him and those friends I kept in touch with after school! I loved my friends from Roosevelt and then "Poof"! Plus Heights was tough and competitive! So it did take a lot more time for studies.

Not to downplay those new friends that I met through Heights and really enjoyed, but not the shared growing up moments that we had at Roosevelt!

Joel...

Amen. I remember when the "Thriller" video premiered on MTV in early December of 1983. I was working for Viacom then at the Severance Center office, and we had TVs going all around the office tuned to various cable channels. Up until "Thriller" all the MTV videos were maybe 2-3 minutes long. The "Thriller" video was about 13 minutes long...more of a short film than a video. Unprecedented. When the video came on the office literally came to a grinding halt, all the TVs were tuned to MTV, and everyone stood around slack-jawed watching Michael Jackson do his thing. There will never be anyone like him.

Sandie Kanter (Fine)

I feel bad about both Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett. I remember Thriller as well. They promoted the heck out of it and everyone was tuned to their tv waiting. Just like the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. I spent many many hours trying to get my hair to look like Farrah's.

2 icons 2 young to die within hours from each other, Farrah Fawcett & Michael Jackson! What an eerie day!! I wonder what will happen to Michaels kids?

Adrian,

I am sure there IS a market in Cleveland for an Alta Cocker Club Card. I am sure there are good requirements there as there are here. I rem when my mother got her Golden Buckeye card, I couldn't believe she qualified and was soooooooo old. HERE we are!! You are right, we are at the end of the baby boomer generation! Do I qualify for dual membership in Florida and Cleveland since I grew up there????? Please check for me !!

Clare, it is weird......MJ, incredibly talented eccentric musical genius and FF..nice, positive role model for many young girls....R.I.P. to both of them. Someone said on Headline News last night; 'now Farah is with the REAL angels...,' very touching!!

Hi Guys, I guess I am not the only one who had more fond memories of Roosevelt than Heights. I completely got lost in the shuffle, but I am still very excited about going to the reunion and seeing my friends.

I was deeply saddened about the loss of Farrah and Michael. I had great respect and admiration for both of them. I was just trying to come to terms with Farrah passing, and then I heard about Michael. Up in heaven, when Farrah saw Michael, she probably said "What the heck are you doing here?" And about the hair, when everyone was trying to get their hair to look like Farrah's, unfortunately mine looked more like Michael's (before he messed with it). Anyway, I will miss them both.

OH, Chuck just want to mention, if you could manufacture a loose leaf binder with your picture on it, I would more than happy to purchase it.

And Beth, We will have to check out the alta cocker card when you come into to Cleveland to see if you still qualify.

Have a good day to all. Go Shaq and Lebron.

Chuck Marty Jaffe here I also remember Roosevelt better than Heights and I was in Mr. Rutan's social studies class. I remember your house had a ballroom on the second floor and my mother taught her square dance classes there your mother was president of one of the square dance groups?
