To Jim, Sue, Norman and each and everyone else who has been so instrumental in the organization of Heights' 40th reunion - congratulations on an absolutely superb job. Your efforts are "over the top". I regret deeply that I will not be able to attend. I have a Board of Director Meetings beginning that weekend in the Bahamas that I can not change. Having so enjoyed our other reunions, I was looking so forward to our 40th. Alas, some things, I guess, are just not meant to be.
Though not a writer/contributor to the Message Forum, I have nonetheless taken thorough pleasure in reading everyone's comments over the last few months. I am amazed at how many memories you all are able to recall. I think I've just lost far too many neurons, the result I suppose, of too many highly pleasurable, but lamentably all-too-unhealthy choices.
I thought that I would briefly chime in with some especially fond, if not bizarre, recollections that do still remain. Like getting paddled by our Unit B Assistant Principal the very first day of 10th grade as a "reminder" to me to drop the Deltans crap (yes, a Wiley thing); the struggles of August two-a-days football practices; the taping help from Mr. Wilson the sports trainer (how old was he back then anyway?); the enjoyment of Friday night football games under the lights; running track down in those weird tunnels under the gym; savoring the aroma and every last morsel of a Geraci's slightly well done pepperoni and sausage; salivating over a moderately fatty corned beef on light rye from Corky's; those delicious Mawby's onion rings; eating fish & chips late on Friday nights at the Big Boy at Fairmount Circle; Summit (sorry you BAT types); the math teacher who was almost blind - what a nice guy he was; the sounds of Smokey Robinson at Leo's Casino (I think that was the name of the club); debating the Vietnam War in the Tiger's Den; our proms; and of course, Elayne.
Anyway, enjoy the reunion immensely and relish in it with great abandon but remember, too, to be safe. Hopefully you can post some photos so that we non-attendees can catch a glimpse of that special history that you are about to embark on.
If you're ever in Boulder, give me a call.
Very warmest regards, Jerry Simms
