Hey 1950's rock-n-rollers, fellow Sam Houston Elmentary, Wynne Seale, Baker classmates and true through and through W.B. Ray Texans. Kudos to Coke Wilson for this site (he was my Sam Houston Clasmate) and what a knock-out job he has done for all us. Since I joined as a guest member I have renewed several old old friendships and contacts with classmates (and one secret girlfriend) from so long ago like Coke, Anita Huie,Kathleen Whittle, Kay Talbert, Jon Patterson, and many others. What a joy it has been and will continue to be. Let's jump in my Candy Apple Red 1955 Ford Crown Victoria, boogie over to Lexington and Ayers Streets to the A & W Rootbeer Stand and get a frosty vanilla rootbeer float 10-4!!!. Do you miss it as bad as I do?. Best regards to everyone, Ronnie Edgington.

Coke asked us to identify the Sasm Houston Cheerleaders. That was easy for me. Here they are for anyone interested.

First row:
Gretcher Wagner, Connie Herbert, Marie Jones.
Second row:
Sandra Sigler, Betty Wilson, Delores Dagley, Laura Nell Grant, Brenda Devers.

How fun is that?

O.K. Sam Houston Elementary Sharks Football fans and students. In the 6Th.grade Sharks Football Picture in the Old Photo's section, this bunch of guys played the Fannin Elementary guys for the city championship. we had beaten Travis, Casa Linda, Menger, and others to reach the championship game. Our Cheerleaders (also in the old photo's section) was cheering as hard as they could for us. We were all scared to death because when the Fannin guys got off the school bus they were all barefooted and our field at Sam Houston was eat up with those old "Goat Head" Grassburs. We all figured we were dead meat but we were not to be denied. James Bartee was the quarterback and the back up quarterback was Donnie Meredith. I believe it was Curtis Johnson and I were the ends. With only one minute left in the game, Bartee called a criss-cross pass pattern to go for broke. Bartee threw the ball toward me, it bounced off the helment of one Fannin Defender who was chasing me and I caught the ball in the endzone for the games only score. The Sharks won 6-0. That's the way I remember it. Sharks forever, Ronnie Edgington.

Oops, I guess 55 or so years makes a big difference in the way you remember things. I have communicated with James Bartee and he straightened me out on the Sam Houston-Fannin Football Game. The sharks lost 13-6 courtesy of Bo Casimer and Bartee hit Dudley Hass for our only score. All I can do is plead old age and loss of memory from Chemothearapy Treatments for cancer. We had a million dollars worth of fun anyway. Best regards to all, Ronnie Edgington.

About that football game, I believe the one who got hit in the head would be the one who remembered it the best.

Love to all my friends who have been kind enough to write me.

I also wanted to mention something very special in my heart. When I was in the first grade, I met Sharon Riddle. She was not in my class, but was in the other class. We both attended Presbyterian Day School. I was only 5 years of age, so my mother did not want me to miss out on the first year of school.

Can we all please remember Sharon Riddle and say something special about how brave and kind she was? I just can't let this site go without honoring her.

God Loves us all. He loved Sharon Riddle a whole lot and I did too.

I'm with you, Anita. Sharon Riddle was such a joy to know. She was always kind, friendly and a help to everyone. Someone told me she went on to college and had a good job and a good life. I sure hope so.

I am sure she will be missed by her friends and family. I do know that sweet girl has paved her way into Heaven.

The 2009 reunion was great and I think that everyone had a great time. It was wonderful seeing everyone again and I can hardly wait for 2014. The reunion committee deserves a big hand for a job well done. Everything was great. Pat Roberts deserves a big hand for all of the cups and hats that we received. They were great. Thanks.

I thought this would be a good place to do this. I just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for allowing me to participate in and attend the 50 Year Reunion. It was so good to see all my old classmates from Sam Houston, Baker, and Wynne Seale. Thanks for adopting me and making me feel right at home with Fellow Texans. I was especially honored to have been asked to deliver the invocation both nights at the functions. Coke Wilson and all the staff who put this together deserve the Medal Of Honor for all their hard work. The years have been long and hard for some of us and 50 years has gone by really quick but the love, sweet memories, and fellowship that was brought together this past week-end made it all O.K. and will be remembered forever. May the Lord Bless and Keep you and Make His Face To Shine Upon You until we meet again. Thanks and Best Regards, Ronnie (Ron) Edgington.

I am now back home in New York.  It was great fun seeing everyone in October, loved the tour of the high school.  Was shocked by some of the changes in Corpus but what should I expect when I have been away for so many years.  Thanks to Coke and his committee for a great web site and a reunion.  Ellen (KeeKee Hopkins) Bush

Ronnie...You are right.  The "Message Forum" should be used.  My husband (Joe Ashford.. Ray class of '57) and I missed the reunion due to our 50th anny being on 10/25/09.  We have been to several reunions and really enjoyed them.  We stay in touch with some our classmates on a regular basis.  We had lunch a few months ago with Joan Mallory-Parker and her husband Doyle (Ray class of '58).  Dickie Beach and Joe (Joe and Dickie were in the singing group The Imperials/Majestics while at Ray) email quite often.  Dickie lives in Florida, is married with two grown daighters.  He retired from the Pentagon in the early nineties.  Jimmy Glenn and I email almost daily.  I have really enjoyed getting to know him again and am looking forward  to someday meeting his wife, Carolyn.  Jimmie sent me some of the reunion pictures and I ordered the video.  Loved it!!

Fellow Classmates,

Ellen Hopkins - Bush was kind enough to have a copy made of the Sam Houston Boys soft ball teamsl photo and send it my way.

It's been re-photographed, digitized and run through Paint shop and made into a good size digital file. Large enough so you can recognise your friends and yourself.

If you would like to have a copy of the file, all you have to do is drop me a note on this web sight. Include your name and email address, and a copy will be on it's way.

There are about half a dozen boys still unidentified. When we get everyone identified, then a copy of the photo will be made with all the names listed. If you think you can help in this area please let me know.

Ron Edgington was kind enough to let me re-photograph a couple of pictures he had from Sam Houston. One is the football team. It will be made available as soon as all players are identified. If you think you can help in this please drop me a note.

The other photo is of the Sam Houston cheerleaders. You may choose the photo as it was photographed some 60 years ago, or with the girls names displayed along with school and year identified. Or if you wish you are welcome to both.

These are good size files (appox. 1.3 MB each). This is a way of sending as much resolution as possible for those that might wish to make prints. The cheerleader photo should make at least an 8x10, perhaps even larger.

If you would like the file(s) just drop me a note here with your email address.

Hello all of you in Rayland! Sorry I missed the reunion... especially since I talked it up to several friends who attended..

Hopefully, God willing, I can attend the next one. 2014 is just around the last page of the 2013 calendar so it's getting closer. I will so my part to help gather the troops.

Coke and Scotty and all of you have done a fantastic job on the site! What else would keep me online so long at 6 am in the morning....

When I am not out with FEMA for a disaster, I write articles for the Examiner web site.

www.examiner.com/gardening-in-fort-worth/joel.howald

Still in Fort Worth and see Jon and Kay web a lot, in fact, Jon and I are meeting for breakfast and all of us are attending an event, Rock n Roll Oldies at a local place. Memories will definitely be stirred!

Take care all... and good health!

Carter

O.K. folks, no one really uses the Message Forum much so I will. Carter was the last post on July 29 Th.. In case you haven't seen it or checked it out and for those of you who live away from Corpus Christi and even Out Of State or whereever you are if you want a really good "live" look at Ocean Drive and the Waterfront, do a Search Engine for "Corpus Christi Webcams", then click on "BAYFRONT WEBCAM" and take a look at the beautiful crystal clear live pictures. The Camera pans every minute. You may want to take an extra look at the Harbour Bridge. It won't be there much longer and is going to be replaced. How many times did you drive accross it when it opened for the first time?. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Season. Be safe and best regards to all, Ronnie Edgington.

Some bad news about Susan Marks (Craven): I talked to her husband just now. Susan had a left-sided stroke 5 weeks ago in Houston which led to the discovery of a primary brain tumor (ie, not metastatic from elsewhere) and a bad one. She's now still in Houston receiving radiation and won't be back to Austin for a month or so.

Here's an email address--her husband--who can pass on messages: nphase@texas.net

Information Note:  For those of you who enjoy viewing the Bayfront Webcam in Corpus Christi as much as I do they have a new City Website. You can no longer pull up the camera by simply going to the old "Bayfront Webcam" site.

Go to www.cctexas.com the new city website, then click on the "NEWS CENTER" Icon, scroll down and on the bottom left, click on WEBCAM. That opens the camera. Enjoy. Best regards to all, Ronnie (Ron) Edgington.

Need help from you fellow Texans. I am trying to find Sonny McGee who was a Saxaphone Player in our band in the early 60's and appeared with us on stage with "Fabian" at Memorial Coliseum. There is a photo of him on my Profile Site with all our band members and "Fabian" I have located everyone in the photo except Sonny. I believe he went to     W. B. Ray but am not positive. If anyone knows him or anything about him, please contact me at email: edgingtonron@yahoo.com and phone 936-577-5263. We are attempting to get a "Band Reunion" together and any help much appreciated.
