Melinda Jacob

JACOB, Melinda age 67, lost her long struggle with cancer. A devoted daughter, she was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Erma Jacob. She was a dancer, an athlete, a musician, an artist, a quilter, a sailor and most important a devoted, loving and steadfast friend. She danced for the Dayton Civic Ballet while growing up and the Hungarian Dance Troupe while living in New York. She was deeply connected to her Hungarian heritage including the language, culture, music and food. A Dayton native, she graduated from Heidelberg University. During her year abroad in Germany, she visited family in Hungary and learned to ski in Austria. After college, she taught in Ohio and New Jersey until she changed careers to work in advertising with a long association with AGA in New York City. She returned to Ohio to care for her parents allowing each of them to stay in their home as long as possible. During the time she was their caregiver, she completed the Power Squadron's celestial navigation course, taught and took other boating courses and studied watercolor when she could. After the loss of her parents, she had a very active retirement. Through Power Squadron contacts, she became the owner of a sailboat, Giefen Delight. A delight it was in that it led to her meeting her life partner, Al Butterfield who survives her. She was a member of the Creative Quilters Guild receiving an award for her design and contributed her time to making quilts for the VA. She learned to play the flute and joined the New Horizons Band. She attended a number of classes at Elder Hostel sites. The Noble Circle was an important support to her. Her sister, Marie Jacob of West Carrollton, OH, and many loving and devoted friends survive her.

Melinda and I went to the same grade school, had the same art teachers, parents who emigrated from Europe and danced with the same ballet company.  We shared so much together including alot of laughter. She was "wicked smart", very kind and giving.  I am personally sorry that I lost touch with her, but am so glad that she found that special someone in her life and had the support of many friends and family.  So dear Melinda-you were beautiful, funny and oh, so graceful.  Thank you for the laughter and kindness that you gave all people.
