In Memory

Terry Meyer

Terry Meyer

Terry passed away this past spring.  He had moved back to Ohio after having lived in Florida for several year.  Terry married Barbara Banta.  He was that handsome, tall classmate who never failed to say hello and greet you with a smile.  I recall him at the 25th reunion referring to Ohio as "God's Country" and of his wish to come back north as soon as possible and have a farm.  I believe he got his wish.  Terry died after a short but valiant battle with cancer.

Yes, Terry was a real sweetheart! When I came to Colonel White, I felt so 'out of it' (not knowing anybody) and I remember Terry welcoming me in his sweet way! Thank you, Terry, wherever you are! ;) <3

One of the very best reasons we became City Champions--Terry Meyer! Terry and I flew out to Wichita State University together on a recruiting trip our senior year. We had some seniors on Wichita's Varsity football team show us around town that weekend. We ate the biggest steaks I have ever seen in my life that night! They put us up in a dormitory room. I remember asking Terry on our last night there, as we were laying in bed that last time--"What do you think about Wichita University"? Terry said, "Hell, I'm not going here. I'm going to be a Buckeye"! Woody had called him every night.

Years later, at one of our class reunions, Terry had yet to arrive, so I thought I'd have some fun with a story about Terry in our game with Roosevelt in football. Terry always fancied himself as our Raymond Berry, the great wide receiver of the then, Baltimore Colts, of the NFL. As the story goes: Terry came by me on the sideline during that game, and said, "Hey Bill, did you see me knocking down those passes on the last series?" I said, "Yeah Terry, I saw that". Even Coach Eby saw it. When I told Terry that he saw it, he asked me what he said. I said, "Well he thought a bit, and then he suggested that I tell you to wait until we are on defense to knock down passes"!

Needless to say, the next day Terry came up behind me at the reunion, and said," Hey Gaines, I heard you've been ragging on my pass catching abilities"!

I LOVE YOU TERRY!

I too remember Terry relating that he was a charter boat captain somewhere in Florida. He stated that as soon as his daughters graduated he was going to move back to God's Country...Southwest Ohio. I often repeat that comment, I think it illustrates that happiness is a state of mind.

I remember the night he came into the Bank Cocktail lounge after the accident on his Cycle I had just got home My tour of duty in the Army. For thoses of us that were luck enough to know Terry we were blessed for the time we spent with him. I am sure he is rocking and rolling somewhere. LOL

Terry was part of the EJ Brown group. I only have fond memories of him. Pleasant and friendly at all times with a great smile. I ran into him at a bookstore in Florida (many years ago) and he insisted that my husband & I join him and Barbara at their home. What a gracious host and hostess - it makes me smile when I think of him.
