Hi everyone! Maureen, I just wrote you when I got your mail. I am so sorry for you. It is so hard losing a friend and I am sure it hits a nerve that only you know all too well. Fortunately for Kim, she will no longer suffer. She is home again. I will pray that the memories of her, and the friendship you shared will carry you forward. I send you a huge mental hug until I see you.

Marianne, My thoughts are with you and your friend/editor/publisher, Bill. It seems that every time you turn around there is sadness, a desperately tragic tale to tell and know. I will pray.

I haven’t seen your photos yet, but I have been wanting to see that musical. My mom continues to rave about it! She and I, along with my daughter, Vittoria, saw Phantom two weeks ago. I had seen it when it first appeared on Broadway. I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much, but I have to say that it was spectacular! I love going to the theatre. I think I either must have been an actor/singer in another life or I would have loved to do it in this life. I get such a high from watching. Wish I could afford it more often! and it was a rare pleasure, being able to spend a day with mom, AND my daughter, without the usual confusion or interruptions.

Good Job!

You know, for years, like you all, I drove passed that heap of a house on the circle and wondered what in God’s name went on there! Admittedly, there was always a bit of curiosity in me about it, but from the outside, it all looked like a junk yard. I never knew we actually went to school with the girls-never knew anyone could survive in that place--living upstairs...imagine the fir hazard!!!

Jo, I am so happy Daniel came home. I bet your weekend was superb! Where is he now? How is Matt?

I am so sad that Karen will not be coming to the reunion. I think we all were looking forward to seeing her. I hope I still can.

Lisa, beautiful, come va? Did you have fun with your niece? Are you? How far are you from Sedona? I have always wanted to go there. Have you ever heard the music by that name-or similar?

Good night to all...I think there was something else I wanted to say, but I can’t remember...I will return!

xo to all.

Hi everyone,
First of all, I to thank each and every one of you for your prayers and positive thoughts for my friend Bill. Sadly, he passed on yesterday at 12:15, peacefully and quickly, surrounded by his family, with Allman Brothers playing in the background. I am glad that his suffering wasn't prolonged but our planet lost a great human being.
A memorial service is being planned in Georgia, but I don't know if we have the extra $ for the plane ticket.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend!
Love,
Marianne

Marianne, I am so sorry. You, Bill, and his family will be in my prayers.
This hasn’t been a good week. I wish you could have seen him again. When was the last time? Was he well then? You are in my thoughts.

Marianne,
I am so, so sorry for your loss. As with Kim, they are not suffering anymore and in a much better place, but way to soon. And you as well have that special "angel" looking out for you. I will continue to pray for his family. If you need to talk, please don't hesitate to call.
Love ya, Maureen

Marianne & Elmer.....
I didn't know what the heck you were talking about with this whole Bikram Yoga business and then when you were mentioning it has to be done in heat, etc., i just had to look it up!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? If I could contort myself into any of those positions, (http://www.bikramyoga.com/Testimonials.htm), I would be a VEEEERY rich woman!!!! :o) Of course I mean, when i got a job working for Cirque de Soleil!!!

Are you kidding me or what???? Where do you do this???

Lisa,
How was your week off?? How tan are you now?!?

Bucky (I just don't know you as a buck.... sorry!!),
Thanks for clearing that up for me! I was afraid it was just something else I couldn't remember!! I was looking all over to see if there was another Carol!!

Noreen Daly-Eytel

Hi folks!
The other night, Tom is on the computer for a wicked (sorry; regional vocab hazard) long time (unusual for him as he has plenty of screen time at work) so I ask him what he’s doing and he says he’s been reading this message forum. Being extremely tech-savvy I respond “what forum?” Anyway, today I finally sit down and read the entries. What a scream!!! I’m so glad to see that most everyone’s in such good spaces in their lives. Age does give us a certain amount of perspective that helps eliminate many of the unimportant things that seemed earth shattering so many years ago.
I have just a little info to share. Sr. Casimir stayed in touch with my folks and Tom’s Mom over the years. She moved to Wilkes Barre and taught there and then retired to Reading I believe. She was always so gracious to her friends and would write beautiful inspirational letters even when her body failed her and she was in a wheelchair. She passed away a few years ago well into her 90’s!

I believe Sr. Mary Veronica is at Mallinckrodt Convent in Mendham now and is somewhat “retired” though she is still very active and driving. Did anyone else besides Anna & I spend a weekend there? This was the summer after we graduated. I think they had such hopes that we would become nuns they had a really hard time giving up on the idea despite the fact that Tom drove us up there! The sisters were very polite to him but at one point they had to inform him he wasn’t allowed any further into the convent (being a male and all) and they sent him on his way! I remember thinking “What am I doing here?” as I cleaned the convent over the weekend! I would have made a very disappointing nun!!! Too many questions!
When I think of Mr. Piro I can’t help thinking how young he must have been when he was at MC. It must have been such a confusing time in his life. His stories were great though I can’t remember too many of the details now. I do remember one of the morals was that those who pick on others are really saying “look at them not at me”. This one probably sticks in my mind because of the whole counseling career thing. Does anyone remember him sleeping in the Nurse’s office during play rehearsals instead of going all the way home after them?
This is getting way too long! Sorry! Just wanted to touch base. - Nor

Marianne Scerbo (Longchamp)

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your kind words of condolence for my friend, Bill. There were a lot of people who loved him and he will be missed.

Cheryl,
To answer your question, I saw Bill last summer. He was in remission then and feeling great. Ray and I took a trip down south and we got together for dinner. Later in the summer, we worked some northeast Allman Bros. shows together and just had a blast. He was the kind of person who instantly made people feel comfortable around him, and he was true Southern gentleman. We always ate dinner together before the shows. He would never let me walk to my car by myself after shows. We spent a lot of time talking while we worked at the shows so I am happy we had that time together and he leaves me with great, happy memories. I will miss him very, very much.

Thanks to all,
Marianne

Noreen....
Please book an hour or two for me over the reunion weekend!! :o) Oh... I mean, I can't wait to see you and have a chat?!?!? Just kidding!! Good thing you live so far away OR ELSE!!! I ALWAYS have "lots" to talk about.
Seriously, just wanted to congratulate you and Tom on staying together ALL these years. He always was a nice guy but really.... 34 years.... that's a long time to stay w/the same person these days!!! Part of your secret must be that you're a DAMN good therapist (or as my mom would say, "You have the patience of a saint!" You too Tom......) Is parenting any easier when you do what you do???
I'm looking forward to seeing you guys this October!! Until then, NO FIGHTING!!

For God's sake Cheryl!!!! On top of everything else... you have time to do gardening???? I'm certainly doing SOMETHING wrong!! :o)

Cheryl, when do you ever find the time to sleep? I know you are not sleeping at 1 or 2 in the morning because you are sending out e-mails at that ungodly hour. Maureen

Liz Kopf (Mazur)

Apparently, THAT is when she is gardening! lol! Well, if truth be told, I LOVE gardening but apparently have been able to find less and less time, as evidenced by the "gardening" photos I just posted. (Landscaping party at Liz's house next????) lol!

07/14/08 08:29 PM #251

Lisa Coppola

Liz,
Great gardening photos. I've had many a flower die 24 hours after entering the ground. I must admit I've gotten better at it over the years...it's hard to kill a cactus. I'm gonna try to post some pics in a few minutes.

Cheryl, Bella,
Do you also paint, make pottery, volunteer with the homeless and scrapbook? If so, we will truly call you Superclassmate. By the way, You look every bit as fresh faced and fabulous as you did when we were eighteen! Can't wait to see you. Keep us posted. Are we all going to homecoming game and then dinner in Parsipanny or is the plan still developing? I'd like to be able to go inside the school...I don't even remember where my locker was though I do remember that it was upstairs as a freshman and downstairs by the time we were seniors.
Has anyone kept up with Janice Cutillo over the years? There are still so many people I hope will find out about our reunion.
Cheryl, I have a book that Morris Catholic put out about 6 or 7 years ago with listings of classmates from different years. Do you know the book I'm talking about?( It's blue and is about an 8" softcover) I plan to go through it this week and see if I can help locate anyone on the lost list.
Carol, chica...How's everything in Lake Hopatcong? Have you and Mary Grace managed to pull of that Lemonaide bender you were planning?
Regards to all.
Lisa

To all who kept Kim close in their hearts and prayers, it was a difficult weekend but it was overwhelming to see the number of people who attended Mass for Kim on Saturday. It is a true testament to the beautiful woman that she is and always will be. My thanks and love to you all. Maureen

Maureen and Marianne my condolences to you both for the loss of your friends. I know this is a difficult time for you but just know that Kim and Bill will always be with you.

Cara Cheryl, the secret to a great garden is called Miracle Grow, one scoop in the watering can every three weeks does the trick for me lol! Buon divertimento!

I was at Hoover's the other night!!!!
That is so funny....I hadn't thought of it for years but I was at a party and we were going to run out of beer and Hoover's popped into my brain!

Carol-
Didn't we stop there after the 10 year reunion when I lived on Franklin Rd. in Denville?

Marianne & Maureen-
I am truely sorry for you loss. It's so sad to see great people go but,as Cheryl said, they're home.

Since I announced that I bought the 2 mini schnauzers, they both caught a deadly virus called Parva.
They were both in the hospital for 10 days.Dom made it through, however,I lost Nicky.
I only had him a month but was so in love with him and this was heart breaking.Fortunately,Dom is still with me and we both miss Nicky.

I finally finished my contract with my clients in Sparta(yeeeyyyyy!!!!)The job is far from finished, but at least I can stay in Florida & get my businesses going!
I'll finish their job long distance and go up to Jersey...whenever....

It was great to be up here for a week-the weather was truely a nice break.

I've been doing alot of work for Barack Obama, helping out with campaigns, phone calls, getting donations, etc.

Oh well....I just picked up Christopher Ciccone's new book,"Life With My Sister Madonna".I've got to go dive into it....

Hello All: I've been busy with work and haven't had an opportunity to post responses...

Myrtle: I saw that the old shop was torn down. It's sort of sad; that shop was quite a landmark--something for wierd NJ. It's always disheartening when something that seemed to be a landmark from one's childhood disappears and is replaced by something new and sterile. Have you noticed the large, abandoned house all the way across the circle (or what was the circle)? That was once featured in a Wierd NJ article. There was talk of tunnels that went below the circle. Believe it or not, my father's old plumber once told me that he had seen the tunnels. I'm thinking about writing a book on Wierd Kenvil (or perhaps expanding that to Wierd Roxbury).

Carol: Bikram yoga isn't so bad once you get past the heat. The heat actually allows the bones and muscles to get into the positions. I take classes in Cedar Knolls (behind the Parsippany Marriott on Route 10).

I agree on your take on Cheryl. In fact, I'd like to convince her to give me a class on time management. I don't know how she does all she does and garden as well.

Marianne: My condolances on your loss. In the words of the Eastern funeral liturgy: may his memory be eternal!!!

Kevin: I didn't know that you lived within walking distance of me in 1989. I lived on Sunset Trail in Denville (right off of Forest Trail which is right off of Franklin Road behind the Burger King). My condolances on the loss of Nicky. Until one has experienced the human/canine relationship, one cannot fathom its depths. I lived in a little house that my brother and I inherited--we called it our little haunted house on the lake (I'll leave the 'haunted' part for another conversation).

Although I don't regard the creation story found in Genesis as literal, it is a myth that is real. I often think that when we as humans enter into relationship with other species, in a sense, we catch a glimpse of the prefall state of Adam (humanity). Creationists beware: When we engage a myth properly, we can't think in terms of linear time--it is a state that can be captured in each moment of an examined life and it is that which waits for us in the future.

In the human/canine (and, yes, feline) relationship, we experience what it means to be in right relationship with the rest of creation (the myth of Eden). When this responsibility for stewardship is ignored and someone abuses an animal, humanity makes the same choice as was made by the mythic Adam; that is to say, a choice is made to extol the isolated ego at the expense of right relationship.

At any rate, not to sound so philosophical, when my dog, Zeus died at age 17 (a dog that I had from age 18 to age 35), I can't describe the depths of that loss. I can tell you, however, that if there is such a thing as a soul (and I believe that there is), there is nothing to suggest to me that they (dogs and, yes, cats) don't have souls as well. The question I pose to those who doubt this is: In the whole process of evolution, did we have to wait until the appearance of cro-magdon man for the elusive soul to come into existence? Did Neanderthals have souls? Can we say that the first cro-magdon man had a soul but his Neanderthal great grandparents didn't? (you see how silly it gets)

Good luck with the campaign. I was a Hillary supporter, but I'll be voting for Obama.

Regards to all...

Elmer
