Carol & Elmer-

Annie Fink....Indeed there is an Annie Fink!
When I opened my first showroom (Keoni House of Design) in Dover,Annie Fink came over one day.She was thrilled that I was breathing new life into Dover and was very sad that her business that she had for many many years was closing.

She asked me to go over to her shop to see if there was anything that I was interrested in,mostly display cases & such, since I wasn't doing Drag at the time (kidding!!!).

Well I am proud to say that one of my clients has her antique oil light ( that was electrfied ) at her home on a column off of her patio AND I STILL HAVE the wooden "K" from her sign. "finK".....can you breathe???

I am happy to hear that she is still alive and that Elmer is toasting with her...that is truely fabulous!!!

Lisa & Carol-

There are no excuses here!!! This is history in the making.Carol, you have a young daughter, don't you think that this election is important for her future and your GRAND CHILDREN!!!!!! Ha Ha Ha.....you know you're not gonna get out of that one!!!! And if I know Matt,he's probably working on one now!!! (sans condom or BC!!!)

Lisa,no answers about my stores until you can tell me SOMETHING,ANYTHING about this presidential race.

I can't believe that after the last 8 years and all of the crisis we face that you're all so status quo on this.
Most of you have children & will have grand children, don't you think they deserve your attention on this matter??

Elmer I would NEVER mention Fine Wines...believe it or not,I DO know where to draw the line!!!!

Sometimes a mirror works great!!!LOL

Off to slave at DCOTA to appease the clients...Adios!!!

Peace/KGB

Kevin,

What a small world. I've known Annie for many years. We've attended the theater together many times. In recent years we've seen "I Am My Own Wife" "The History Boys" and, at my urging, "The Frogs." After attending a performance of "The Frogs," we went to dinner and sat at a table next to Nathan Lane (who, of course, played Dionysios, in "The Frogs"). I'll mention you to her next time we go to dinner.

On what street was your design studion in Dover? Dover is really a great town; it's a shame it developed a negative reputation over the years.

Annie still walks down the hill on Pequanock Street each day and walks through town--that's what keeps her young.

She has been a friend of my family since the 1940s. She knew my grandparents and is very close to my Aunt Grace who owned the Grace Marion Bridal Shop in Kenvil.

Funny that you should mention drag...Annie and my Aunt always say that transvestites were their best customers--they never return anything and they buy the best. My Aunt would open the shop in Kenvil to transvestites after closing to her regular customers.

My best,

Elmer

Carol,

A younger man often needs an older woman to "season" him. It's very European :).

Buck & Maureen-

Did you say TAYLOR HAM????????????? Whenever people come to visit us from NJ, they bring us Taylor Ham. Pat's mom carried what I believe to be a 10 POUND log of it in her carry on bag. We've introduced it to many of our friends here in Atlanta. What's up with the box of it with only four slices in it? What good is that? Taylor ham, egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!

We've also had relatives bring us pizza shells from Smiths Tavern in Rockaway when they have visited.

We don't have Stewarts either. Now that's a bummer. I love Stewarts!

Debbie-

Pat T emailed me back. He is unable to come to the reunion due to his work schedule. Bummer!

Kathleen,

The older I get, the more I think about the blessings of children. I once saw an Newspaper Ad, in a literary magazine, from a woman who wanted to have a child with a man (not to marry or have a romantic relationship). However, she wanted both to raise the child (not certain of the practicality of the situation). If I were to decide to have a child, I would surely adopt.

Funny thing about race...I remember when my niece Lauren first when to school, my sister had lived in a multicultural area and my niece had playmates of many races. We'll after about a week of school, my niece came home and questioned to my sister: "Do you know that there are black people? And, do you know that some people don't like them?"

Well, the point of this story is that my niece's best friend was black. Without conditioning, she didn't even recognize her friend as different until she heard this at school. It's a shame when childhood innocence is destroyed.

I thank God that my niece grew up without prejudice. She went to the prom with a gay man and is now teaching in a Headstart program in Little Haiti in Miami.

My best,

Elmer

Taylor Ham???!!! When my aunt from New Mexico visits, we buy those logs of taylor ham, freeze them and send them home with her... Why is it just in this area???

Elmer-

I agree! It's so sad to think that some children are raised to be prejudice. Children don't just learn this on their own. I believe that parents teach them.

Dylan had a similar situation at school. A classmate told him that he wasn't allowed to play with "brown" boys. Dylan was upset until I explained to him once again that God created each and every one of us and each and every one of us have a purpose in life that God intends for us. I gave him my permission to tell anyone who makes such a comment like that that "he is sorry they are ignorant" and walk away. He then said "but I'm not allowed to be mean". I told him that wasn't being mean, it was just being honest. He asked why there are "bad" people in our world. I told him there are no bad "people", God only created good people, and we have to realize that some people just make bad "choices".

I always believe that children never asked to be born. It is our responsiblity as adults, and our privilege as parents to teach them right from wrong and to raise them to be good citizens with kindness and love.

I can't tell you how many times Pat & I forget that Dylan is bi-racial. We don't see his color, just his spirit and his heart and personality. And it's a good one, I promise!

You really should think about adopting. It's a beautiful thing!

Amen to that, sister!

Off topic ....... This has been driving me nuts trying to remember.

I seem to remember a guy from our class singing "The Long and Winding Road" with the band at the Prom. I have asked a couple people I've seen who it was, but they don't remember it. Am I dreaming???

The other thing I remember from the Prom was an unfortunate incident, wherein everyone was standing and when my table went to sit down, my prom date (first husband Pat Reardon, class of '75)had moved the chair next to him and the poor girl at our table went to sit and hit the floor, since the chair was not there. Whoever that was, SORRY AGAIN! : (

Kathleen Gallagher (Murphy)

Liz-

I don't remember anyone singing "Long and Winding Road" at our prom. But that doesn't mean anything at all. My memory is shot!

As far as the poor girl hitting the floor . . . that's a very funny visual, but i'm sure a not-so-funny moment for her, whoever she may be.

Hey - regarding the photo of your patio . . . why would you have to redo it to get rid of that line? Can't you just put a picnic table or two chairs over it to cover it? Sounds like a perfect plan to me! The patio looks awesome, by the way!

Love, Kathleen

08/27/08 01:41 PM #569

Liz Kopf (Mazur)

lol! Didn't think about the picnic table! I was going to try to ignore it, but everytime I went out the french doors and looked over, the FIRST thing I saw was that line!!

I REALLY wish I had known about the whole "bring the measurements to Home Depot" thing before. Would have saved alot of time, bruising and broken nails! lol!

Now to build the Pergola before winter ........ : P

Deborah Kozak (Martin)

Liz- Was it Bill Kelleher singing? Bill Casey would know. And I agree with Kathy, the patio looks great!

Taylor Ham- where can I get some? Remember Tastycakes? My aunt used to send them to me when I moved to Michigan (thanks alot for all of the pounds they put on me) because we couldn't get them in MI.

Pizza- Kathy G and Pat T - got to come down to a local place here called Partners. Its the only thing close to northern pizza. Everyone else's is pretty bad, they say its the water. Is the Reservoir still open in Boonton?

Elmer- don't have enough time to respond right now to our vampire conversation, but will respond later!

Kevin- its hard enough to talk about politics in person, but in writing our thoughts, sometimes they come out harsher when put down in black and white, and sometimes not exactly what we mean to say. I agree this is a critical election and it does scare me either way. However, everyone is edgy right now with all of the election issues we have at hand and this is just not the forum to discuss them. I agree with Elmer though, or was it Lisa who said it will be close?!

Have got to get back to work!

Debbie

just a thought regarding the whole blog "incident"...

Now that the reunion is right around the corner, alot more people are starting to join in the forum. Hard to believe, but it's already been 6 or 7 months of discussions for some of us. Maybe that's why the conversations were beginning to get a little deep.... (again, just a thought)

On another note, my mother-in-law mentioned to me that you only have to be 48 to buy a home in the retirement community, in Barnegat, where she lives... Whaaaaaat???

The Albanian has been given an ultimatum regarding the pergola. If he walks off THAT job, I've got your number. Barb and I can sit on the slate patio and tell you exactly where the pergola goes! ;)

08/27/08 02:33 PM #574

Maureen Bezold (Como)

Maybe we should just have taylor ham, egg and cheese on a hard roll as the main course for the reunion.

Hey only 48yrs old to live in senior housing in Barnaget??? I love the shore thats my fave place in the whole wide world! Hey can my kids live w/ me ? If they can where can I sign up? AHH, the thought of the ocean breeze in my hair while playing shuffle board or doing water olympics in the pool w/ a noodle yeah yeah I would be living large... and don't forget bingo and pot luck dinners, all soft foods for those with limited chewing ability due to a full set of dentures, yeah yeah it would be like I am at a resort.
Then again I could liven it up and invite my fellow classmates for a BBQ that would really shake people up.
I know there are people wondering, what the heck is she talking about...I dunno Carol put the thought in my head and I kinda went off into dreamland. Hey Carol what exit?

08/27/08 03:26 PM #576

Kathleen Gallagher (Murphy)

Maureen-

Taylor ham & egg sandwiches for the appetizer, YOUR chicken parm for the main course, with pizza as a side dish. Yes? No? Maybe?

Bucky-

I am laughing my butt off. I CANNOT believe for one second that there really is a website for PORK ROLL! My husband is in New York and won't be home til tomorrow. I can't even wait to tell him. I might even have to call him as soon as I'm done typing this. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. My husband will love you forever!

Mary Grace-

The picture you painted in my mind reminds me of the retirement village that my mom lived in in Florida. It was a beautiful, beautiful place. There was one funny thing that sticks out in mine and my brother's minds . . . on Saturday mornings, you could go outside and look down the parking lot and there would always be men standing there with the trunk of their cars open and they were just standing there staring into the trunks. We've always wondered what they were looking for.

Liz-

A deck box would be a good thing to cover that line with, too, ya know!

Liz- What's a pergola?

08/27/08 03:31 PM #578

Kathy,
That dinner menu sounds good to me for the reunion. Maybe we could get Connie Bevacqua to bring the pizza from the Reservoir Tavern.

Liz - it was Bill Kelleher who sang The Long and Winding Road at our prom - he was a big Beatle fan - probably still is.

When I bought this house last year, there was a 20+ year old grape vine that was being held up with 1-1/2" aluminum poles. Needless to say, it was leaning just a tad!
So I am putting up a

per·go·la (pûrg-l)
n.
An arbor or a passageway of columns supporting a roof of trelliswork on which climbing plants are trained to grow.
[Italian, from Latin pergula.]

Don't worry. I didn't know what it was called either, until I needed one.

Give me a couple secs and I will post some pics.

Kathleen Gallagher (Murphy)

Maureen-

Ohhhhhhhhhh! Connie Bevaqua! How is Connie Bevaqua? Do you get to see her? If you do, will you please, please, please tell her I said hello? Can't we all just go to the Reservoir Tavern on Sunday morning for breakfast (lol)?

Liz-

Won't purple grapes fall and stain your beautiful patio if you put up a purgl?

08/27/08 03:46 PM #582

Kathleen Gallagher (Murphy)

Maybe Joanne Belsante could bring Dunkin Donuts for desert?

08/27/08 03:56 PM #583

Maureen Bezold (Como)

Kath,
The Reservoir Tavern is closed on Sunday. Maybe we should all meet there on Friday night for pizza and beer.

I know that Marianne Scerbo has kept in contact with Connie. I used to see her at the Tavern. Maybe Connie will be at the parade on Saturday with her cousin, Charley Sabatino. We will be meeting up (hopefully Carol and MaryGrace as well).

I almost forgot - I had to run to the Parsippany Library last night to pick up a book on tape for my son. I then drove past Cathy Ough's pizzeria and we chatted outside for a little while. Cath looks great and will be coming to the reunion and maybe to the parade on Saturday.
