HaroldBuck Riedinger

Anna,
Did you cheat and look at the answeres first. I'm sorry about your brothers in-law. It's not their fault.( I'm just kidding)Lets start a new riddle before I get killed.
see ya, Buck

10/27/08 09:26 PM #1036

Anna Kowalski (Villalon)

Buck- NO-- I did not cheat!!!!
I would have gotten the rail road track one right- But- I like the answer- What has 2 back bones and over and over hundred ribs- 2 rednecks at a BBQ. So are you going to wear a gorilla costume for Halloween?
take care-

JoAnn Chegwidden (Rosica)

HI EVeryone,
I haven't logged on in a while....still have to get up to date with all the goings on you all are up to!!

But wanted to let you know that I got a huge surprise this past weekend. My son came home for a two week leave! He almost gave me a heart attack coming through the door. He spent twenty hours on a plane to get home. He was tired, but man....I was shocked and happy to see him.
Anyway...hope everybody is doing alright, and glad you are back safe Anna. Greg...glad you are alright and no one got hurt in your house.

Hey Bucky....how many days till the Halloween party?? And great news about the football team...

Talk with you all later...

10/27/08 11:53 PM #1038

Lisa Coppola

Okay Bucky, I'll rescue you this time.
Here's a new one just in time for Halloween...
How do you tell twin witches apart?

Looking forward to your guesses!

Joann, Glad the big boy is home for a bit!!

Ellen, I promise no more gold fish humor although I think Marlene really liked it and I'll bet money that one made it to her meetings at work. Am I right Marlene?

Mary Grace Van Saun...Whaaaat's up? Forget grading papers girl and get busy telling us what's going on with you and how was Carol when you saw her and is she ever gonna speak to us again???
xoxo Lisa

JoAnne, great news on your son coming home.Tell him, thank you for me.
The party is on Halloween and everyone is invited. This year the wives wanted to do a 70's theme. I'm going as coach D'Ottavio. I told my wife that all the woman have to burn their bras or come braless. She didn't think that was funny. Anyway the Deadheads won a close game on a blocked punt for a touchdown to win 13 to 12. We now go for the championship this Sat. Tickets are still available. Anna the redneck joke was a much better .
Buck
P.S. thanks Lisa

10/28/08 10:03 AM #1040

Lisa Coppola

The answer is: you can't tell which witch is which!
Okay, I guess I'm done with fifth grade humor now but surely you giggled just a little. Highho Highho it's off to work I go!. Have a great day everybody.
xoxo Lisa

Quick!!! start a new "win a trip to Lisa's" question.... it's SNOWING, and STICKING, in Hopatcong, NJ!!! I'm not ready for this!!! i'm just a girl who prefers the spring and fall. :o(

The sugar gliders are doing well so far.... which equates to "no smell"!!! They haven't really won me over yet but they probably will, once all the toys i bought online arrive. Did i say toys?!?!? as long as they don't smell!!!!!! :o) OMG, maybe they do and I just am use to it?!?!? Grassyass, stop by one of these days and tell me what you think!!

Here's a confession... i was at the 4:10pm showing of HSM3 on opening day (10/24) my daughter loved it!! it was my least favorite of the 3. That figures though, the one they actually make you go to the theatre and pay for!! (i know, i know, sad that i even have an opinion) If that wasn't bad enough, i'm sitting there minding my own business and i break a crown on an f'n piece of popcorn!!! So I haven't even bought any of the HSM3 merchandise yet and it's already cost me about 1500.00!!!

Hmm??!?! Surprisingly, no dentists in the bunch!!! Too bad, dental hygiene.... PRICELESS!!! :o)

10/28/08 11:11 AM #1042

Anna Kowalski (Villalon)

Thanks for all your good wishes. I am happy to be home.
JoAnn enjoy the time with your son.
Thanks Bucky - here is a another sick Halloween joke- are you ready Lisa?
Why don't angry witches ride their brooms?
Anna

10/28/08 11:13 AM #1043

Carol Vallone

It's warm in Chile, right Anna??? Is this for a trip??

Okay then.... "They're afraid of flying off the handle"??

10/28/08 01:39 PM #1044

Deborah Kozak (Martin)

JoAnn-
Hooray! Your son is home for awhile! Enjoy his company for the next 2 weeks and thank him for his service to our country.

Lisa-
The goldfish riddle was cute; but I won't tell you what my guess was since I was sooooo wrong. As far as the witches riddle goes, does it have to do with a play on words with the words "witch" and "which"? And are you feeling better? Hope so!

Bucky-
Your wife is one smart lady, was she at the reunion?

10/28/08 04:12 PM #1045

Marlene Stager

Bucky,
Now there's an unpleasant high school memory...I'll go to the party as Linda Blair from the Exorcist and when I see Coach D'Ottavio I'll spin my head around a few times and puke. Sorry if you football guys hold him in high regard. He didn't have much regard or many decent words for the female half of the population...so the feeling quickly became mutual. Congrats on the win...hope you sell-out. How much fun would that be? Very cool!

Lisa,
On a lighter note...the fish quizzicle was entertaining though I may modify it some to entice my collegues....Five neurotics share an apartment...they will puzzle over that without unexplained deaths. I am saddened by the status of honorable mention...but wonder what the prize is. Mule to Az, or, I still get to go in Buck's truck but get ejected half way there?

Anna,
It was great to see you...and share funny memories. I agree with Bucky...the bbq wins. Awesome photos.

Weg,
Thanks for the laughs. How's that front yard shaping up?

Ellen and Mary Grace,
I am really hoping to get to NJ for one of the gatherings since I really didn't get to do as much visiting as I had hoped at the reunion...but once basketball season begins...it gets tougher...between my husband, sons and I we have six teams in this house...I'm really going to try.

JoAnn,
Oh happy day for you and Rocky and which son was which...aka... who came home Dan or Matt should I already know this?

Everybody have a great day....I really have to get some work done...fortunately I am working from home so no one knows I goofing off.
Marlene

10/28/08 11:39 PM #1046

JoAnn Chegwidden (Rosica)

Thanks everybody....it is great to have him home....changed a bit but none the less home to relax and think of nothing but ...you know....drink a little...since they can't have it over there!!
Can you believe the snow today!! Wasn't it awesome....I will have to send some pics in to show everyone, they wouldn't believe it unless I prove it!

10/28/08 11:46 PM #1047

JoAnn Chegwidden (Rosica)

Marlene....goofing off!! haaa....its ok, no one is watching. Unfortunately I have no access to the pc during work, so I miss all this during the day. I have all my laughs when I get on at night to see what you all have been up to! But with Matt home and Steph needing the pc I hope to get on sometime...late as you can see...but not for long, am tired..

Go Deadheads!! Beat?? who is it now Bucky??

10/28/08 11:53 PM #1048

JoAnn Chegwidden (Rosica)

Debbie,
I still have to get that restaurant my co-worker knows in Atlanta. Piedmont comes to mind, some bbq place. He says its really good and cheap. Do you know?

10/29/08 08:57 AM #1049

Anna Kowalski (Villalon)

Carole- You are the winner***** of the joke!!!

Why don't witches use their broomsticks when they are angry?
Because they don't want to fly off the handle!!!
Carole I moved here in Chile 6 months ago so I have had a very long winter- spring- we don't have summer until Christmas but it feels warm and wonderful - finally. I was thrilled yesterday to see a huge humming bird and then later porpoises jumping in the ocean- It was like being at sea world- I couldn't believe it!
Marlene- It was wonderful to catch up with you at the reunion- Good luck with basketball season- it sounds hectic.
JoAnn- Sorry I got Matt's name wrong- Enjoy his company and tell him we are all proud of him and thank him so much for all his hard work.
Sending sunshine to those of you who have snow-
take care-
Anna

OK geniuses, reconcile this: “Time fly’s like an arrow” but “Fruit Fly's like a banana.”

10/31/08 06:56 AM #1051

Margaret C. Shade (Hogan)

ok John,
I'm guessing it's Fruit Flies like Bananas.
Happy Halloween Everyone. I work at an Elementary School You can Only imagine how crazy today will Be.
Enjoy
Margaret
Joanne, Glad your son got home for a surprise.

10/31/08 07:28 AM #1052

Marlene Stager

OK John,
No matter the outcome of the upcoming presidential election...where will the United States be keeping its armies? hmmmmmm......

10/31/08 08:26 AM #1053

John Kressman

Shade: is that your final answer?

Marlene:on their shouldies?

10/31/08 12:55 PM #1054

Marlene Stager

John,
I am with Shade and was dissapointed when I discovered she answered first.

your answer is close...but not nearly as clever as mine..."in their sleevies" (well maybe it is).

Have a great weekend.

10/31/08 02:31 PM #1055

John Kressman

I’m hoping someone gets this one. If I have to answer it you’ll think I’m so smart you may never think of me as cool again.

Hint: It’s not a riddle (it’s something else)

Teachers: please help us out!

10/31/08 03:06 PM #1056

Greg Marion

I'm not a teacher but:

The humour comes from the fact that the two sentences look like they follow the same construction, but in fact don't:

time flies like an arrow = time (n.) flies (vb.) like (adj.) an (art.) arrow (n.) = time passes in the manner of an arrow

fruit flies like a banana = fruit (n.) flies (n.) like (vb.) a (art.) banana (n.) = the insects known as 'fruit flies' have a penchant for banana
In the first, "flies" is clearly a verb, and like is a descriptor: time does fly as an arrow does.
in the second, "fruit flies" is the noun in the sentence, while like is the verb: little insects enjoy a banana.

The joke is in the unexpected shift of the parts of speech.

(OK - truth is I googled it and then copied/pasted the above - kind of like when I used to cheat on tests in school)

Weg

Lisa Coppola

I'm not sure what has confused me more...the above Greg Marion answer to the riddle or the much earlier Elmer Dante theology tutorials (I tried to use an intelligent word like "tutorials" so you'd all remember that I really was smart once upon a time!)
Happy Halloween to all of you...as usual, I have not a single trick or treatster. BOO hoo (get it?) Anybody besides Bucky throwing a party?
xoxo Lisa

11/01/08 09:20 AM #1058

Marlene Stager

OK...Thank you Greg for the enlightenment however you obtained it...but...in essence it is a play on words yes? Thus the humor, so Shade was right....fruit flies like bananas because physics contests the concept that all fruit flies like a banana. I actually pulled out the dictionary to assure that I didn't confuse word usage and spelling in my feeble explanation.

John,
Thanks for the cerebral stimulation, generally in short supply on a Friday and Saturday morning. (as evidenced by the riddle I presented). I'll be watching for more on subsequent weekends...don't let me down.

Have a great weekend all. Keep your fingers crossed, Fordham plays Marist today. Fordham is family, Marist is local (blecht).....Go Fordham Rams. Kill 'em Beat 'em. Must be Saturday morning in Autumn. Gotta go.
Marlene
