Ok Buck,

you got me, I have also joined in some of these fantacies, many times since the reunion.

I'll stop there. My wife may kill me anyway.

Hopefully spring is just around the corner and we can get together again. and if 50 is the new 30 then my body feels like it is 70 already..... but in my mind I always remember all of us as 17, boy if I knew then what I know now......

Hey everyone.....how is everybody?? Well, we down here in the town of Rockaway,NJ felt the earthquake. It was a quick one, but boy it did scare us all. My daughter was in the shower at the time, and she didn't know what was going on. Our house shook like a truck hit it. At least thats what I thought it was, either that or I thought our furnace blew up. Was strange, everyone was looking out their windows or coming outside to look to see if they could see anything.

Come to find out, was an earthquake!! Was topic of conversation at work, for those who felt it.

Hi Maureen F. hope you are well, I have to look at your pics. Glad you found the website.

Have a good week everyone!! I enjoyed the warmer weather for sure this weekend, was good to get outside!

Earthquake in NJ? I didn't hear anything about it from my brother, and my sister-in-law's parents live in Rockaway. How scary! Hopefully there wasn't any damage.

I'm with Tom. I must be 70. My youngest got her driver's permit yesterday and luckily didn't take down any mailboxes today when she was out with her dad. How did our parents do it? And I thought potty training was going to put me under.

Maureen- How do you manage to take your dogs on vacation with you. I've found most places don't allow pets and gave up on trying years ago.

Maureen Farrell

Interesting to hear about the earthquake in NJ (as long as nobody got hurt). Experienced a few in California, but thankfully nothing very noticeable.

Mary Ann - yes, I remember “The Long and Winding Road” as our prom song.

To fans of “The Boss“… I recently attended a concert and saw Springsteen, Bon Jovi, and many others perform live for free. Priceless!
Unfortunately camera phone (or operator) not working properly at the time.
Kind Word of Caution: This post is not intended to start a political discussion; it is just about the Jersey music connection!

Deb - I’m glad your daughter is doing well and not too afraid of driving. To answer your question, when I lived in Europe, the dogs went everywhere with me (hotels, restaurants, shops). Unfortunately, in the states it is harder to find dog-friendly accommodations. We generally only transport them between our homes and don‘t need accommodations en route. We’ve been fortunate to live in places that provide picturesque landmarks for excellent photo backdrops. Too bad the computer crashed and most of our photos are lost until I can find the backups!

Maureen- I'm quite surprised to hear that pets are so welcome in Europe. It wouldn't surprise me however if it became more common in the states being that people spend so much money on their pets these days. I was at the card store today, and there was actually a Valentines card that said "TO MY DOG"! I was half tempted to buy it for our Minnie, but refrained because it might send my girls on a mission. They love animals and would be at that store in a heartbeat buying out their inventory for all the dogs they know!

The earthquake only lasted a few seconds, nothing was damaged, at least not where we are. If you were sleeping at the time, like my neighbor was, she didn't feel or hear anything. It sounded like Picatinny Arsenal was testing explosives, which we know was not, since it was around 10:30 or so at night.

Maureen,

Sorry if you took my comments earlier as no political discussion I try not to tell anyone how I lean although I am fiscal conservative, I believe I fall in that catergory, and I try to vote the Man and Not the Party. I would attend any free concert given by either Political Party as long as I like the musician (and did not require a contribution).

My last Posting was to leave the judgement of any president to history, however you should wait until they do something first. I look forward to the current administration and really do hope President Obama succeeds, because if he fails now we are all screwed.

Enough on Politics. I was back in the city and it was not that cold I even got to look up at times square, they still have the Ball from New years eve up there lit and everything. I thought they took that down after New Years Eve.

Tom,

No worries! I took absolutely no offense and actually agreed with your comments!

I wasn’t aiming my comments at anyone in particular. Honestly, I just wanted to keep things light but was afraid folks might assume I wanted to discuss politics (which I don’t).

Please don’t think I meant anything other than I went to a free concert to hear some guys from Jersey (and Bono too).

Mea culpa!

Tom
Are you trying to incite political riots again??? And you also might want to know our temperature here has dropped precipitously(get it?) We may even have snow tomorrow...as you can imagine, my company from Upstate NY is thrilled. So much for cooperation from mother nature.

Maureen....sounds like a concert I'd enjoy but Tom and I are trying to score some Amy Winehouse tickets if you have a lead on any...

Cheggy, I didn't know NJ had earth quakes. Scary!!!!

Hi All,
WHEW!!! Sorry that I haven't been chitchatting that much but what a crazy 2 weeks it has been between work and home. The great news is that we have a buyer for Mom's house (we countered at $400,000 and they accepted). We made it through attorney review and the home inspection with a closing date of March 27th, so now there is even a bigger push to get the house cleaned out. I also need to clean "stuff" out of my house because I am taking some of my parents furniture; I will finally have a complete dining room set after 21 years of marriage. Thanks for all your support and kind words that the "open house" would go well.

What a great surprise to see that Maureen Farrell and Greg Nesbitt have joined the site. Greg, I would have wished you a Happy Birthday yesterday, but I can't seem to get MY laptop away from my son; I know, sounds like a personal problem, but Happy Birthday to you.

Maureen, you haven't changed a bit and your collies are ABSOLUTELY beautiful. A friend of ours from the fire department has 6 lab puppies that he is selling and, of course, my son got to see one of them yesterday; now he is hounding me to buy one. What to do!

Greg M. - I was so sorry to hear of your daughter's pending divorce, but with Mom and Dad support she will definitely come out of this a better person. Tell her to keep her chin up.

Mary Anne Mullin - thanks so much about the kind words regarding the memories from my parents house, especially the little english muffin pizzas; I still make them on occasion. Mary Anne Scerbo had mentioned them to me a while back on the forum.

Well I hope everyone else is well, and Tom, a get-together sounds like a great idea. Where and when????

I must sign off and finish my tax payments. I hope everyone remembered to pay their property taxes.

My love to all, Maureen (Bez)

Deborah Kozak (Martin)

Our county has to pay property taxes in November, believe it or not! Doesn't make sense, don't they realize we spend less on Christmas this way and so they end up getting less in their pockets from sales tax revenue!

Bez- what to do about the pups?!!! Oh- get one! My girls are hounding me (no pun intended) big time for a puppy even though we already have a dog who has entered old age and needs some peace during what is probably her last year here on earth. I will bet they are adorable!
Congrats on selling the house. I'm sure its a relief!

Lisa- Snow in AZ? No way! Its 70 here right now and quite pretty out. My husband is actually outside spraying weeds that still won't die. Did you score the tickets???

Maureen F - Have you ever thought of entering your dogs in a dog show, or have you? They are too pretty not to think of it!

02/10/09 05:58 PM #1300

Maureen Bezold (Como)

Deb, it sure is a relief that we were able to sell Mom and Dad's house in this market. I'm sure our 3 angels in heaven were helping out with that. As far as the taxes, in NJ they are paid quarterly, 2/1, 5/1, 8/1 and 11/1. Such a dreaded day for everyone. And concerning the pup, no one is home all day long and I don't really think that is fair to any animal. Will have to mull this one over for a while.

02/10/09 06:24 PM #1301

Deborah Kozak (Martin)

Quarterly taxes sounds like the way to go. Must send that recommendation to our mayor!

Has anyone ever had a Saint Bernard?...I think one of these days ,I might get one. I hear they are breeding a variety called "drymouth St. Bernard." I must say, the drool would be a deal breaker for me...can't do it. Collie is my next choice..or maybe sheltie.

Tom, I'm surprised our girl Amy is together enough to perform...Good for her!
Happy late birthday Greg!

Maureen Bezold, I may not know the whole story of your parents house, I had to clean out my parent's house about 4 yrs ago. Driving up from TX twice with Trailers etc. Needless to say it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I had tremendous help from the kids I grew up with. It was pretty overwhelming. For example; The 2 car garage took 2 men 12 hours to clean out and there was a car in one of the bays. You or your siblings have to be there at ever step. Things like a coffee cup may not mean anything to anyone else but may mean the world to you. It is your and your family's history and it needs to treated as such. Good luck, I appreciate what you are going thru.

Greg

Bez and Cheg - good to hear from you and see your photos. Seems like you have wonderful lives and families.

Bez - Great news about the family house!

Deb - I have shown in the past but it can be stressful on the dogs so we do other projects now. We work as a team performing “pet therapy” for dementia patients and disabled adults. I hope to expand our work to include children’s and veteran’s hospitals.

Lisa - You were smart to plant roots in Arizona - love the dry heat. What kind of pets do you have now? I‘m partial to Shelties and Collies! Not that you need the sweater makings where you live, but they do drop enough hair for you to knit one! Haven’t had a St. B, but did have a Newfie mix (thankfully no drool) and that dog was great.

Bez and Deb - I want a pup, too!! My recent dogs have been adult rescues and make “Marley” look positively docile so I would love to start fresh with a young one.

St. Bernards are awesome dogs, they are so loving! I am actually thinking our next dog might be a boxer. I have a friend who has 2 of them and they are just about the sweetest dogs I've ever met.

Bez- when my uncle passed away 7 years ago, he was unmarried and my dad had to go to his home in Phila and help clean his home out. He had a 4 story typical "row" home in Philly, and the whole entire 4th floor was filled with old toasters, radios, etc, that my uncle apparently set out to repair and never did. He also was in possession of hundreds of very outdated books which he actually filled up one of the spare bathtubs with because he had run out of space to put them! (His IQ equaled that of a genius and unfortunately I didn't inherit his genes!) Needless to say, it was quite an eye opener for my dad to make all these discoveries. Like Greg said, a coffee cup might mean the world to you or your siblings, but not to a stranger.

Maureen- how inspiring that the dogs help with dementia patients! Maybe my dog can help me with my forgetfulness!

Very Late birthday shout out to Mark Krevis!!!!

Maureen,
I have 4 cats (Noah, Kelly, Hana and Katsumi) and I love them to death but I've heard enough crazy cat woman comments to last a lifetime. I always tell people not to buy me any cat "stuff" if you know what I mean. I've wanted a dog for a long time but haven't had one since I was a kid. One of the dogs we had then was a shephard/collie mix and he had the most beautiful face. That poor dog's been gone for 30 years and I can still see his sweet face in my minds eye.I'll have to tell David what you said about the Newfie mix. That's a dog he likes very much and I bet I would too...so long as no drool...I hate drool!
Bez, Glad to hear the house seems to be sold!
...we're freezin' in Arizona tonight. I'm about to fire up the electric blanket so I can avoid the "cold sheet shivers."
Stay cozy everybody!
xoxo Lisa

Lisa,

Uhhh Cats, guess I need to scratch off staying at your house. I have become highly alergic to Cats. Throats closes up I turn bright red then blue, and feel like I have a severe cold for about 1 week after......

Beautiful weather here this week. guess we got that Arizona temperatures.

Bez, thinking about a place any preferences on location?

After this post, I promise no more talk of dogs...at least for a good while.

Greg N - Did you see that the winner of Best In Show at the 133rd Annual Westminster Kennel Club Show at Madison Sq Garden was a 10 yr old dog from Texas who was very ill several years ago and was saved by the vets at Texas A&M?? Nice story, especially since he is the oldest dog to win Westminster. (Even non-dog owners know about Westminster, right?)

Lisa - Did you watch it and see the St B and Newfie? Sorry, but don't rush to tell David that there is a non-drooling Newfie, especially since ours was more "mix/mutt" than Newfie. She had the size, color, and the water-saving gene, but no webbed feet and probably a mixture of ancestors that helped reduce the drool factor. Nice of you to provide a great home for some lucky cats. You should post pics. I'm sure they will keep any dog you get right in line so you will not need the Dog Whisperer.
