Lisa - beautiful story about your grandmother. The tradition sounds very nice. Sorry for your loss.
Yes, witty and inquiring minds must stick together.

Maureen- I thought maybe we missed the game and I guess we did. Good for Duke! Do you know my brother had a chance to play there and turned them down?!

Lisa- very touching story about the Italians and it doesn't surprise me. My mom is Italian and I would be willing to bet she is familiar with this tradition. I'm sure it was hard losing your grandmother after such a full life.

Greg- my husband and I saw a car today much like your old one!

Deb - Wow, what an honor for your brother. He must be very talented. Did he play at another school? Michigan State?

Greg N - Funny about your wife. Maybe she and my husband should talk since he wants me to clear out some of my collections.

Tom- I'm thinking those up for a trip would love should come down here for some good ole southern hospitality! We could do a Braves game, Stone Mountain, or just plain ole eat, drink and be merry! I may be heading for Jersey depending on what weekend my niece is baptized but would be thrilled to play host to y'all! So who's in???? And what weekend? By the way, love those Honeymooners....I often tell my youngest I'm buying her a one way ticket to the moon which is a chip off Ralph's "to the moon Alice!"

Tom - not just a KFC, but a landmark - for the directionally challenged - in Atlanta! To know it is to love it! Both wikipedia and roadsidegeorgia.com have good pictures of it.

Jim Morrison's in the house.... yeah!!!new blood. (Not that I'm in the least tired of everyone else cause I'm not.) I've been bustin' a move and bustin something else too at work all last week and had barely any time to write. How is everyone...thawing out now I hope. I hate to hear plans of a getting together without me but the show must go on. Hey Deb,I recently found out I have another classmate from grammar school in Atlanta...did I already mention that? Maureen is a party girl! stay well xoxo Lisa

The Big Chicken is a landmark in the Atlanta area right up there with the Varsity. What did you do, google it Tom? Cheater!

03/10/09 08:28 PM #1450

Thomas J. Cornine

Deb,

no I spent hours researching the Big Chicken, went to the library read all about chickens and how big they could get to see if there were variations in size, southern vs northern Chickens....

Whats a Google?

Hey if I had Google and some of these new cell phone I would have done better in school.

Deborah Kozak (Martin)

LOL Tom! You're hilarious. Good thing too because I'm having a really rotten day. No one seems to be capable of doing their jobs anymore. We're finally getting busy again and things aren't getting done as quickly as they should be thanks to the people who process permits, mark utilities, etc. Instead I find them reading books at their desks! Lovely. By the way, did you find out what the Varsity is???

Lisa-Did you get your painting done? I've done alot of faux painting, its something I actually enjoy doing.

03/11/09 04:17 PM #1452

Thomas J. Cornine

Deb,

I went back to the library....
The Varsity looks cool, (yes I googled it) sort of like the little coffee shop in my town called Connies I don't think this place changed in over 80 years.

Glad things are turning around for you Deb.

Deb, I finished my paint "project." I had to be kinda stealth and undercover because I was painting on other people's property, but someone's got to get that graffiti crap off the walls and I wasn't waiting another year for the owners of the building to do something about it. Like any good Italian vigilante, I took matters into my own hands. What are the police going to do...arrest me for painting over obscene graffiti!!! David wasn't thrilled with me, but I was a woman on a mission.
The little garden arbor turned out nicely too! The pool plumbing got fixed (David did it for $5.00 and a lot of messy work.) The plants are blooming here. The weather is lovely...and with the exception of my sick kitty, Noah, all is well.
Is your chicken place related to CHICK FILL-A? I find the name of the place to be a turn off!
Hi to everyone. Margaret Shade...How are you? Wanted you to know I walked home from work today!

Deb - glad your business is picking up and that spring is in the air. It has been years since I’ve been to The Varsity. Ah, but that was in another life!

Tom - agree, I surely could have used google back in the day!

Lisa - In honor of your sick kitty, what’s a few more miles… we can change directions and head west. How about we meet in Utah at Angel Canyon and help the animals at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. That would be a great class project! Get well, Noah!

03/11/09 09:54 PM #1455

Maureen, I'm going to look up Angel Canyon. I was in Utah last Spring...what a place! Thank you for the Noah get well wish. He needs that and your prayers...he's a great little guy.
xo Lisa

Deborah Kozak (Martin)

Oh poor Noah! There's nothing worse than a sick pet. My mother-in-law used to fix everything with some baby aspirin in the dog's water- its worth a shot!

Good for you Lisa for covering up graffitti! Those bad teenagers need more constructive things to do.

Now don't get excited, work has picked up but like Bucky, Greg and anyone else out there from our class that is self employed can tell you.... March is going to have to be a killer to make up for a horrendous Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb. (My FAFSA form is looking pretty good though.) I think I should apply for a job as one of those book readers.

Tom- The Varsity was one of those places on our list when we first moved her we had to try, it is well known being right in downtown Atlanta and basically a landmark for I believe 50 years. Well, we finally tried it, and were terribly disappointed in the greasy overpriced food. Even the atmosphere was a bit disappointing. At least my girls brought home their trademark paper hats and were thrilled to death with their keepsakes - thats all that matters.
