Published - 2007-10-28

Died on October 25, 2007. The youngest of three brothers, he was born in Battle Creek on August 19, 1941 to Henry Milton Buszard and Ruby Grace Foust. After graduating from Redford High School in 1959, he attended Wayne State University, earning a B.A. in Geography in 1966 and an M.A. in Education in 1970. He was a teacher for 34 years, from 1965 until his retirement in 1999. For three years he taught in the Detroit Public School system, but spent the majority of his career in the Livonia Public School system, teaching 4th through 6th grade for 15 years at Tyler Elementary and Science for 16 years at Emerson Middle School. He was a lifelong music lover and amateur pianist. He played at home every day and every holiday season at the Wilson Barn Christmas singalong. While attending Wayne State he worked nights as the pianist at the Dakota Inn. It was at the Dakota Inn in 1962 that he met his future wife, Ann Marie Stampfly, who was introduced to them by their dear friend Kerry Nelder. They dated for three years and were married on December 18, 1965. They had two children, Bradley Bruce and Laura Ann. He had several passions outside of his work. He collected, restored and showed antique cars his entire adult life. At his death he had four antique cars that spanned four decades and was a member of the Ford and Mercury Restorers Club. He loved dogs of all breeds, but especially mutts. After retiring, he volunteered at the Michigan Humane Society walking dogs. He is survived by his wife, his two children, his daughter-in-law Michelle, his son-in-law James, his grandson Jonathan Nicolas and his brothers Roderick and Dean. Visitation Fred Wood Funeral Home (Rice Chapel), 36100 Five Mile Road (1 mile west of Farmington Road) Monday 12 Noon until time of service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which was Bruce's favorite charity.

Dean and Bruce -- our favorite and only twins at Edison and Redford. They couldn't have been more different in all respects, but both were fun and interesting people. Dean and Marilyn -- wow was that marriage in the cards as early as Edison? Later in life Dean worked with my brother, Chris whose wife, Linda December was a friend of both Dean and Marilyn so I heard about them from time to time. Unfortunately, I totally lost track of Bruce who was the brainier and more serious twin as I remember. The reunion won't be the same without them.
