Art and I lived across the street from each other beginning at around age 5. We were best friends at Edison Elementary and Redford. Our lives went separate paths after that, but we stayed in touch mainly through the Redford reunions and always looked forward to catching up at them. He was always a big, happy and generous guy --- and a real asset on the liine of the Redford football team. It was tough seeing him at the 2009 reunion as illness had taken its toll, but he was as usual very friendly, upbeat, interesting and interested. We worked together to host an Edison reunion at the Redford 50th and have stayed in touch off and on through email since then. So sorry to see you go old buddy. God bless you, Norah and the family. RIP and say hello to Len for me.

I am really grateful for this website. The site gives us a moment, a day or longer to remember those of us who have passed. I went to Edison with Art and remember him as soft spoken and friendly. He was a big guy to me, but then most of the guys seemed tall. I shall remember his passing with sadness and wish his family strength to rejoice his life.

I knew Art at Edison but lost touch when we went to Redford. He was one of the good guys at Edison. He was always so kind to his classmates. We played a lot of pick-up softball after school and he always made sure everyone got on a team.
Like Janet, I am thankful for this website. Because of this website Art and I reconnected and exchanged e-mails.
Our prayers go out to his family. We also know he has been called home and is now in a special place reserved for people who lived their lives as he did.

Art and I grew up living about a block apart. We were in the same classes and shared walks and later bus rides to Edison and Redford. Art was an oustanding athlete. Not only did he play on the RHS champion football team, but he was a shot putter on the track team. One of the Detroit newspapers ran a story on Art complete with photos of him "putting the shot." The story called him "The Apple Cheek Boy." So many of us still think of him in the fine physical shape that he was in, despite his suffering from declining health the past few years. The last time I saw him, in 2010, my sister Ellen, wife Carol, and I visited their retreat on the AuSable River. It was a beautiful fall day and we had a wonderful time. Art was well enough to get around on his ATV, and enjoyed showing off their wonderful surroundings. I will think of him as he was that day, as well as when he was "The Apple Cheek Boy."
