HOOPS WILLIAM D (2004-09-19)

 

 62 of Houston, died September 5, 2004 from complications following treatment for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Survived by spouse Virginia; daughter Emily; step-children Deborah Ginsburg (Burt) and Stephen Willet (Lisa); grandsons Max William Ginsburg and Zachary Willet; step-mother Wanda Hoops; brother Frederick (Cynthia); sister Kathryn Michalak (Stefan); numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Walter and Kathryn. Born in Highland Park, graduate of Redford High School. Practiced law in Michigan, until 1974. Received his AB degree from the University of Michigan and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School. Bill taught at the law schools of Wayne State and the University of Houston, was a licensed pilot, avid golfer and lifelong fan of the U. of M. athletic teams, Detroit Tigers and Houston Astros. He was President of the CLL Foundation which he formed to do research and test drugs in his fight against CLL. Friends are invited to join the family Sunday, September 26, 2004 from 12-3 p.m. at Meadowbrook Country Club, 40941 Eight Mile Rd., Northville, with a memorial at 1 p.m. Donations can be made to: The CLL Foundation, 1415 Louisiana, Suite 3625, Houston, TX 77002

Sad to hear of Bill's passing.
I did not know him very well.
We used to deliver newspapers from the same station, way back when.
He was a great guy.
