Flooding on the Las Vegas strip...It is well known in this area that the Las Vegas strip is at the bottom of a bowl. When you come into the Las Vegas valley from Reno on the freeway, or the freeway from Arizona, the "strip" is 1800 feet below you. And the valley is a bowl with mountains all around it. From our home, we look down at the top of the 900 foot tall Stratosphere hotel/casino. So when we have a "cloudburst" at the edge of the valley, the water is really hauling by the time it gets to the strip. That is why the older casinos have parking in the "basement" There is an underground flood control  piping system that you can literally drive a full size pickup truck through. (700 miles of it) And the homeless folks seem to think it is safe to set up "homes' in there. So every monsoon season, the police run them out of there, but at least two or more poor souls sneak back into the area and die each and every year.

Just thought you'd want to know.

As for me, I'm now an "official" volunteer at the VA hospital (badge and all) and we are preparing to teach art to the wounded warriors at some of the other locations. It really seems to help those folks and I think I get more that I give in doing so. I've actually had them cry when they tell me how much the art helps them. We all need to give back.

Was in El Paso last week and drove by Irvin to see what it looked like.  Wow---if we had gone there, we would have thought we had died and gone to heaven.  It is so modernized and has expanded.  Looks as if the old gym still there and in bad need of repair.  Crosby still standing and can see the areas burned.

Clint,

Inspiration? When the Covd came about, one of the wounded warriors that I have been working with (for the past four years) and his lovely wife arrived, un-announced at our front door, and brought about four bags of groceries for Connie and I because they were worried that due to our age, we might get exposed to the virus. He has multiple injuries (including two brain injuries) from two IADs in Afghanistan. Lately he had two of the spinal discs in his neck replaced and has been on a feeding tube for the past two months. And they call every day to see that we are O.K.

Inspiration? He is just one of the many stories that I can tell about these men and women that have given more than their share, and continue to give everyday.

The classmates on this site have been blessed with such great lives (from what I read and hear), I know that Connie and I have. And as I have said before, I recieve more than I can give when I try to help those folks, even if  the only thing that I can do is to listen.

God bless and be safe.

God Bless You.  You are over the top with commitment and involvement.  You make all of the rest of us look good, just by associating us with our Irvin HS history.  Great going!!

Thank all of you for your compliments. Sometimes, like most of folks, I get caught up in the moment and forget my manners. My parents taught me better than that.

Hey Shirley. My husband and I decided to take a drive out to Irvin to see the new school design. I took a few pictures and hope everyone enjoys the new "look" of Irvin. It really looks great. Definitely not the school we went to but so big and modern. BTW the rocket is supposed to be moved close to the goalposts.

Sorry but having trouble uploading the pictures.  Will try again  later.

It is hard to upload pictures here.  If someone knows the secret please post easy directions since I am not a techy.

Monica, it is something isn't it.  I bet that Irvin ends up with the Crosby property as well.

Klaus once sent me info from the website manager about uploading photos.  (Can't find the email print out.)  But as I recall, you click on the box next to Source (looks like a teeny photo).  It will open a page that allows you to find a file on your computer.  I had to do this many months ago because a simple copy/paste doesn't work for some situations.  Please give it a try.

(So Nice) Summer Samba (Marcos Valle) Vocal and Piano by Sangah Noona w/ Lyrics - Bing video

I've posted this link several times before.  That said, am once again posting it with the hope that you will read the lyrics of the song, while listening as well.  Whenever I think about past, not to mention current, relationships (married 50 years), the lyrics of this song ring a bell.  Listen and read them. Very romantic.  We should all be so lucky as to answer her quest.  As for myself, I often go back to this clip whenever I want to be reminded about what is "so nice."  Almost 60 years since our Irvin graduation.  During those years I've benefited from "more than one" relationship fitting her song.  Ups and downs.  Haven't some of you, as well?  Anyway, it's my favorite on-line clip and I ofter open/listen/read it for no particular reason.  Just because....

PICKLEBALL.  Remember several Minis ago when Mike and support group took us to the pickleball court to show us what the game was all about?  Selling point: kinder to we "older" folks.  Fast forward to 2022: this weekend's Wall Street Journal had an article about how pickleball is picking up legions of players from the younger generations.  ??!!  Anecdotal stories about how young folks agreed to play to humor their Boomer parents then realized they liked the game.  Paddle and related gear sales are booming.  Court construction as well.  Irvin Rockets - ahead of our time!!

We went to the Inn of the Mountain Gods for lunch today and the best price for food was in the Casino at the Sports bar.  It is near the back.  Rueben was $10.99 and Turkey and Alvacado was $11.99.  They come with your choice of regular fries, sweet potatoe fries or onion rings.  I had the onion rings and thought they were really good.  At the food court looks like hambergers were around $13 or $14 and you have to order fries etc. separate.  Just thought I would let you know.  Wish I could be here for the reumion but we come out middle of June and stay until sometime in September.  Weather has been really great this year.  Lots of rain and cool temps.  Hope all have a good time.

Thans for update on the "new" food eateries.  Thought they would be more of a bargain.  We've eaten hamburgers from the Sports Bar and thought they were awesome.  We are still hoping to make the reunion this year.  Patty & Bill Coberly

Miss the Buffet.  We use to go there often.  Even the Travel Center has become costly.

I know that was the best buffet ever.  Wish they had put it back.

The buffet hired a few but the new fast food places require more employees and they sometimes are hard to find.  Probably coming from the reservation.
