Member Chatter

Welcome to the Irvin High School Member Chatter.

I have changed this Message Forum to Member Chatter so we do not have two different Message Forum web pages.  Member Chatter is an ongoing dialogue between classmates. There are no topics, subtopics, etc. like there is in the Message Forum web page.

Member Chatter works when people participate - so don't be bashful! Click the "Post Response" button to add your entry.

Hi Jim, was reading your Been There/ Done That survey and I am surprised that you had anything to put under Haven’t Been There/Haven't done That.  What a remarkable career you had with the Navy.  Thanks for sharing all that information with our classmates.  I am thinking I need to rewrite my survey, but won’t get close to your travels or experiences.  It looks like we have several divers from our class, I know Tom Seitz also has his Advance Open Water certification.  I have just started diving and I have an Open Water Certification but I am in the process of getting my advance certification.  I also started making videos of my dives and have two videos posted on VIMEO.  See link below if you have time:

Hey John, that's a fabulous video you made - and great music, too..  If organizing reunions does not work out for you, you can always make professional dive movies.

Thanks Glenn but I hope organizing this reunion does work.

Hey John,    I see nothing wrong in your organizational skills or diving skills.    Did someone say Sea Hunt!   I am truly looking forward to reuniting with other classmates from  '66.  I still remember the first and only reunion that I attended -- '76.    I also attended a small gathering around the same time while in El Paso.   As life would have it,  I moved away and lost the connection.  Other events came and gone and so did the Reunions.   Those years at Irvin were the most rewarding and fun years of my life.   While in the Navy, I would correspond with Ms.Mayhon, one of  my English teachers.  I also  remember a teacher that I had in Algebra I ('63)  that was easily distracted.   One day a fellow student brought a common garden snake to class and we turned the class into a Biology class -- studying and preserving the snake and talking about his turtles.  Any help out there on who this teacher could be--I am not seeing his picture in the albums!   Those were the days!!!    The Teaching staff, Counselors, Administrators,  and School Spirit that everyone had and exhibited was ELECTRIFYING!

John,

Thanks for setting up the open message board.  It looks great, and it isn't herky jerky like some other ones have been in the past. I might actually be able to negotiate this one with my less than competent tech skills.

Before this was set up, Tom Weitz and I were talking (on his page) about where we'd been around the world and where we'd still like to go.

I was wishing the rest of you could see!

The Been there Done that is in a similar vein.

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you and especially those who were in my classes.

Mary Yates McGarr

John, you are doing a fantastic job as chairman of our reunion committee. Under your leadership and with your computer skills, this is - without doubt - the best organized reunion ever.  We thank you.  Of course, we greatly enjoyed the video.  Hope to see more.

I ask all classmates and friends to promote our reunion.  This will be an opportunity to solidify friendships and actually meet new friends.  See you all soon.

Gary pointed out that I can't spell.  It's Seitz, not Weitz!  Sorry about that.

EPISD approves contract for Irvin High rebuild

A recent article in the El Paso Times describes plans to rebuild Irvin High School.

Who knew that the original design was supposed to be in the shape of a rocket!!!  From an aerial view I can now see it.
