They honored David Lattin in Houston this weekend.  They are now pronouncing it like it were spelled 'Lateen."

His grandson is playing in the Final Four this weekend.

Hi Mary, on what team does David Latin's grandson play?  I am watching the tournament, but missed any discussion of David Latin's grandson.

Thanks John for the tip on the Texas Western Game showing.  I was alerted by UTEP and watched the game tonight, and also at the time it was played, as I attended UTEP at that time.  Also attended the anniversary game at UTEP in Feb this year.  Thrilled by it all....such good memories and inspired all over again.  Ready for the Final Four games this week.  But nothing will top that historical event ....that really changed our world.

Glenn

He now spells it Lattin and his grandson is on Oklahoma - Khadeem Lattin.  He is one of their stars.

As Mary said he is now pronouncing it "Lateen" as did David on the interviews during the rerun of the game.

Oh well - guess things always change!

Gary

Hi Gary, thanks for responding.  Yes, I saw/heard the interview with David Lattin.  Sounded odd to me that he now pronounces his name "La - teen."   I saw the rerun of the game last night with a new appreciation for free throw shooting.  I did not realize that UK had six more field goals than the Miners.  But the Miners forced the pace and forced UK to foul them.  Thanks also for reminding me that David Lattin's grandson plays for OU.  I'll watch him closely.  See you soon.   Glenn

Glenn,

Not only was the free throw shooting decisive, the absence of three pointers and a clock were very noticeable too.  They also could have not taken a shot the whole game and just played keep-away if they wanted to.

Mary

Brenda Putman (Derr)

Good Morning, ya'll!!  I am hoping to get my registration done in the next couple of weeks.  We have to factor in being away from home for any length of time, my Mom has Alzheimers and it has been a challenge!  It's amazing how many things you do that affect so many people.  Have you heard the saying "a Mother can take care of 10 kids, but it takes 10 kids to take care of 1 Mother"?  That is so true!  Everything we do we have to figure out who or how someone can be with her.

Have been looking at all the activities and am curious, how many people have registered already?  I am so looking forward to this!  Oct. seems like a long way away, but it is amazing how fast the days go by....guess I'm getting old, huh!?

Don't know how many people even remember me, I was such an introvert and a band geek on top of it all!  LOL

"Hope" to see you soon!

Hi Brenda, we understand the challenges you have in caring for your mother.  However, we are hoping you and Ken will be able to attend the reunion.  We would love to see you.  Incidentally, no one considered you a nerd - just a nice, and pretty girl.  I remember you that way from our days at Stanton.  To answer your question, about 28 people have signed up for the dinner/dance.  Of that 28, most include a spouse or friend.  So, the actual sign up is probably 40 folks.  We expect many more to sign up during the summer.  You can follow the sign ups by checking out the "Class Profiles" page.  Hope to see you and Ken.

To All our "66 Classmates,  The El Paso Times is running a 4-5 part story on the personal history of Bobby Fuller, with the first part published in the Sunday edition June 26th.  Each Sunday the paper will continue to publish further parts of the story.  The article was posted in the “65 website.

Knowing how many of us followed Bobby Fuller in our years at Irvin and how many enjoyed his fabulous music and show at the "Teen Club" (Rendevous)...I thought you might also enjoy reading the articles of his history.

This link will get you to the article:

I have added a new webpage so we can all see who will be attending the 50th reunion and what event they have signed up for.  The new webpage is called “Attending Events at 50th Reunion”.

Thanks, John.  You new page looks good and should encourage more classmates to attend.  Thanks again for your hard work and leadership.

I have noticed that there has not been a lot of classmates sign up for the Irvin High School tour for Saturday morning.  I just want everyone know that this tour is not the tours we received in past reunion.  IHS tours have gone to a new level and now the students post a video of the tour on YouTube.  I talked to a lot of the classmate from 65 and they said the tour was amazing.  The class of ’65 50th reunion YouTube video can be seen from the link below:

I would like to ask all classmates for your thoughts and prayers for our fellow classmate, Luis Carrillo.  Luis has had some health issues since he was diagnosed with three types of cancer in Novermber 2014.  No sooner had he conquered the cancer that he had a seizure that required surgery to stop bleeding in his brain.  In early 2016 Luis contracted MRSA after entering the hospital to have a dialysis port moved from his stomach to his chest.  Then in March, weakened by the MRSA, he fell breaking his hip.  He had surgery to repair the hip, but has been in a weakened state ever since.  Last Thursday he was admitted to Del Sol Medical Center, having suffered kidney failure.

Luis has been a dear friend since meeting him in sixth grade at Crosby.  I will continue to keep you all aprised of his condition.

Only  79 days till the Class Reunion, and I am very excited about the responses of those who plan to attend OUR 50th CLASS REUNION.   I am looking forward to seeing my fellow classmates and catching up on all the stories.....from over the past 50 years.    Greta and I are looking forward to the activities, dinner/dance, and farewell breakfast!   Although we share a lot of stories, pictures, and information over the internet.....it is just better in person!!   My hats off to John, Glenn, and Sherry in keeping the Committee Members on track.   May eveyone that plans to attend have a safe journey!

08/05/16 08:55 AM #59

Glenn Gonzalez

Hi Tom Seitz, thank you for your kind words.  However, we also thank you for your dedication in tracking down many classmates.  I guess, at this time, we're all getting a little excited about seeing our dear friends and classmates again - many of whom have never attended a reunion.  Hooray!

In the event you did not see John's special announcement on the Home Page, the Friday evening event at Charles and Sharon Vass' home has been cancelled due to serious health issues concerning Sharon's daughter Missy.  Please pray for Missy and the Vass family.

John and Sandy are planning another event and will inform us as soon as possible. TGIF to everyone.  Party early.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the the Vass' family and hope and pray for a speedy recovery for Missy.   I am not worried about Friday night....I am sure that John and Sherry will come up with something special!   Look forward to seeing everyone in October.
